View Full Version : "Miniature Holographic Figure" aka The Pack-In

GNT

So we've heard that the new TSC figures will include a mini-holographic figure. What does everyone think about this? A worthy pack in? Would a past pack-in be better?

I'm thinking if they do include a bonus mini figure they could always use the miniature (http://www.rebelscum.com/SWmini/SWminiROTSALL.jpg) figures since they've already made a bunch of them, it would be a great way to tie the miniature game with star wars figures in the hopes of getting people hooked on both. Hasbro did the same thing for a short period of time with the Unleashed line so you never know. Just an idea.

Thoughts on the pack-in?

It'd be good if the pack-in related to the figure somehow. Any free pack-in is good a pack-in.

I think the minis would be cool. At least you wouldn't have to resort to a specialty shop (for the most part). But, like Kad said....Any free pack-in is a good pack-in. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I like the idea! This is so much more pertanent than a lot of things they could have come up with. Granted we'll probably get a lot characters that we never see in holographic form in the movies but at least it's not comtech chips. This also opens up the opprotunity for a General Veers with removable armor packed with a small holographic Darth Vader! Please Hasbro!

I didn't get into Star Wars figure collecting for the gimmick of the day. The Freeze Frames, Commtech chips, figure bases, stands, coins, blah, blah, blah mean absolutely nothing to me. These are no different. Good for those who like `em though I guess.

Lets face it, pack-ins are usually only there to draw interest to the line or pull in another demographic if only for a short period of time. Very rarely are they geared to the diehard Star Wars collector. I'm curious to see how these are embraced now that it's basically down to the long-term fans... again.

As a father of young kids, I'm worried about choking hazards on this recent pack-in. Yes, SW figures generally have small parts as accessories, but that's just one more for the mix.

Also, seems to me that this pack-in is more of collectable-type, so basically you have two camps - one, basic figures such as these with the pack-ins leaning towards the collector side, and two, other sublines which include the SW Transformer, Choppers (possibly) and Playskool targeted at the younger consumer.

The holograghic figure pack in for every figure doesn't excite me. It would only work for two or three figures, R2 with Holo-leia, Veers with Holo Vader and Vader with Holo imperial officer of Emperor bust. It would be a waste on everyone else.

I'm rather see an extra blaster.

i dont really care about pack ins, but it would bee cool to do the old spare part that forms another full figure.
or peices for a mini diorama.
and i mean if theres 6 figures in a wave, then you have 2 arms 2 legs a head and a torso, there you have it.
or a double head for each character, not to mention those that would buy doubles of them all to have both heads on display, that should make hasbro happy.

The only pack-in I really care about is a figure stand. I wish they wouldn't keep changing the damned things, though. Just design a good generic stand that does the job, and spend the rest of the money on making a good figure with good accessories. The Saga Collection's movie logo stands look promising. I just hope they get the pegs right. Put them in a good spot, and more importantly, make sure they actually fit the foot holes.

A pack-in mini would be cool, but I love the idea of holographic mini-figures.

I would prefer if the figures were regulary painted....only holographic when it makes sense (like packing in a Holo Vader with a General Veers).
It kind of reminds me of the 80's G.I. Joe figures. Some of them came with Die-Cast figures. Of course this was a little before my time.

GI Joe did a similar thing back in the day. A mini figurine was included with every 3 '3/4 figure for a limited time. They were cool but nothing out of the ordinary, as they resembled average quality "gashapon" or what we call vending machine toys.

I would prefer the Star Wars ones to be on full color but I guess holo figs will be ok as long as there's not a price increase.

I remember hearing about them. They sounded pretty cool.

I know that some of the holo-minis wouldn't work, but it's a good chance to experiment (eg Bib w/Jabba holo).

Maybe we'll get the holo Dooku that was originally going to come with the AOTC Palpatine.

I'd also like a holo of a Destroyer Droid.

I say forget the pack in...lower the price a dollar to MSRP of say $4.99 (maybe 4.24 at wally world)...and give us some decent accessories like the early SAGA says - remember Luke Bespin with the weather vane...stuff like that. I know there is a built in licensing cost to each fig, but if they could do it back then, they could do it now.

Little micro figures mean as much to me as the price tag on the card. Harsh but true...

E_CHU_TA
07-23-2005, 09:58 PM
well i have to say i have never bought a holo figure yet, i have no interest in them, so why would i need little tiny ones.

maybe they can come with interlocking little square stands that are black and red depending on good and bad and you can just build your own chess board.
kids today play to many videogames anyway.

if you dont like it tough, its fare enough.

I can see tons of cool holos:
ROTS:
Ka adi Mundi
Clone Trooper
Anakin
Mace Windu
Grievous

AOTC:
Obi Wan
Dooku

TPM:
Qui Gon
Nute Gunray
Darth Maul

ROTJ:
Imperial Officer
Luke
ESB:
Vader
ANH: Dejarik table creatures

I wasn't counting the holos already produced.

Maynard

Holographic pack-ins of characters who actually showed up in holo form in a film are great, but like many already mentioned, this is a relatively short list. And who comes with who? Any specific packing sequence or just random? And since there is only a limited list we would just have multiples of, say, 5 or 6 different ones.

As for the pack-in being a mini fig from a game or something, this would be completely useless for someone like me who has absolutely no interest in any such game. This would be a waste. It would be the equivalent of the character's pictures that come in the ROTS carded figs, for me: something you glance at, then throw out.

A lot of valid arguments. I am definitely not fond of the idea. The only ones that make sense are few and the only Idea I can justify is to have the Djarik pieces come with the most appropriat wave, possibly. Other than that, let's have that tiny price break or some added accesories of some import including a subtle and sleek figure stand that remains consistent.

Deak_Starkiller
07-25-2005, 01:18 AM
About an inch and a half more or less. They came pack-in the Stormtrooper/Aurra Sing/IG-88 Unleashed wave.

An all-holographic theme sounds too much like a fad, just like the silverized figs line.

True, but they really only have to keep it up for about a year. If response is too low, it may even get changed or cancelled halfway through the year. It's hard to guage a true reaction until it is released. It is just as hard for us to form a real opinion until we see exactly what they do with it.

Maybe it will just be translucent versions of their 2" Unleashed line. That could always be a possibility. The molds for those are already made and it might garner support for the line if a free example of it were included with each basic figure. It's a good marketing tie-in that could bolster both lines if successful. It's a relatively cheap and simple solution just by switching plastics on the assembly lines and not having to paint them is even better. I'd say this is the most logical scenario.

I guess it's okay as long as the hologram has something to do with the figure and that every figure doesn't come with the same hologram.

I hope that every PT figure doesn't come with a holo-Emperor and every OT figure come with a holo-Leia for example.

At least it is a pack-in that has theoretical play value. They could have done a lot worse. I also hope that they are not random, but wouldn't mind if they weren't of the same character. Does anyone really want a "Barada" mini hologram?

Randomly packed and packaged in a way that will make them ridiculously easy to steal. Great job Hasbro. I give it a week after these are first sighted before the "missing holo minis" threads start up. And a week before they're spotted we'll find the first e-bay auctions for "super-rare missing holo mini variant figure!!"

Great idea! Considering the front of the card almost comes off as being too busy, putting the Mini Holo Figures on the back was just brilliant on Hasbro's part. Whu? How can these be used?

I'd prefer that the money that went into production of these were instead put into the figures themselves. I'm just one of those guys that never understood pack-ins. Personally, I'd rather they include a Real Action Stand like they did with the online exclusives from a few years ago. Those are great, and are almost certainly cheaper than these mini-holos.

Yeah, I was thinking about editing that right after I posted it....but anyway, what I mean is that it is something the figures can actually interact with, unlike a commtech chip, force file, or slide. I know alot of people are going to say that the stands are better, but I don't use them, so personally I like these a lot better.

If Hasbro thinks this collector is going to buy 5 of each figure because they come with different minis they've got another thing coming. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm hoping they just do 1 mini of whatever character it's packed with.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Hasbro stoop that low though thinking completists with by 7 of each figure to get all the variations.

If you would then you're foolish.Like the saying a fool and his money...
