Ah very cool http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif Not bad All hasbro has to do is use a perfect mould and just change the colours and we've got pretty much all of them http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So it's an EE exclusive... is everyone thinking around $40 for this one? I base that on the fact that the Clone 4pks are $35.

Where's the R5's? Great idea for a five pack, I love it and will buy it, but we really need a new R5 mold. Badly. We should get on EE's case for not demanding one.

$35-40 for each set really sucks. This is the answer to my astromech dreams but I doubt I could afford $70-80 for 10 Astromechs. I really hope $20-25 each set.

I've been wanting sets like these (the Rebel set as well) for a long time.

I remember a subject on these very forums that was all about droid multi-packs.

Kinda cruddy that Red Leaders droid wasn't included, but oh well, we're getting a lot of astromechs which is great in my book.

I'm guessing they will be app $30 a piece. They are probably going to be a bit pricey, but I just got to have these....

JediSooner

They might just end up being $35, like the EE Clone 4pk exclusives. When Hasbro decides to give/award/sell an exclusive to a particular retailer, I wish they would include price point restrictions as part of the deal. EE is always high on their prices, IMO.

I hope that tHasbro uses the R4-G9 (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=ROTS/ROTSsp4r4g9loose.jpg) body for all the droids instead of a half dozen different sculpts. Some with leg cables... some without...

i_know
07-17-2005, 07:36 PM
I agree with Darth_Tedious. The R4-G9 is essentially a repaint of the VOTC R2-D2, with the added descending leg, and Obi-Wan's new R4-P17 is also a repaint of this great astromech version. I'm hoping these are not repacks.

I hope other online retailers will have these like they did with the Clones. EE is very pricey and their shipping costs are insane.

Here is the info on this pack as quoted fomr GH:

"Imperial Pack

R3-T6. This is slated to be the same mold used for R3-T7 from the Sneak Preview AOTC wave, minus the accessory. It's a white droid with a clear dome and lots of red markings. A link to his page at Astromech.net.

R4-E1. BoShek's droid. As BoShek (POTJ) was born out of Hasbro as a gag after realizing the production run could be the right size so it could sell through, they made this one after reading me blab about the character in Q&A-- so naturally, I like this droid. The figure is planned to be based on the R4-M9 mold, repainted in red and white. He looks a little like R5-D4. Link to entry at Astromech.net.

R4-A22. This is the name Lucasfilm gave the droid-- when writing the proposal of this AOTC extra, I knew it as R4-T8, which is what it said on the Astromech site. Apparently, that's wrong. Like R4-E1, he's based on the R4-M9 mold and was seen roaming the streets around Dex's Diner.

R2-Q2. This, and the rest of the Droids in this particular set, are all based on the ROTS sneak preview droid R4-G9, which is probably the best ever mold to use on any R2 unit. If you twist his dome, his leg goes in the body, or comes out. R2-Q2 is a grey droid with various colored markings, and he served two roles, we think-- one was on the Tantive IV as (again, we assume) an Imperial droid when the Rebels were captured, and the other was as the droid of Biggs Darklighter.

R3-T2. As seen elsewhere, the litte droid does not have a clear dome. While wandering the desert, he got damaged, so his old dome was replaced by a red and white one. Otherwise, he looks a lot like R2-D2. Think of him like the cars you see with mismatched hoods and/or doors."

I wrote an email to EE asking what molds they would be using, and they said the molds for all the typical R2 looking ones will be using the R4-G9 mold, which is the sweet mold originally used on the VOTC R2-D2, and now Obi-Wan's R4-P17. The one's with the clear domes will be using the mold from POTJ that had the clear dome (R3-T7), and the rest(the lampshade models will be using the R4-M9 molds. Should be a nice set. i'm a little dissapointed that they can update the R3-T7, and R4-M9 molds to at least have the legs of the VOTC R2-D2 with the actual wires by the feet as opposed to painted wires, but what are you gonna do.

I preordered a case. With the ridiculous price on these, ordering them by the case is the only way to go. After shipping, it brings the price to roughly $6.50 per figure (unless you're in CA and paying tax). I can stomach that price.
I'm looking forward to these little guys.

Rayne,

How much was shipping on a case? I'm trying to decide if it would be worth it to go in with some other collectors and then pay to have mine shipped to me. Since I open all the little buggers, I figure they should all be able to fit inside a PM box so $5 should cover the shipping from anywhere in the lower 48 to Georgia. If the cost savings isn't enough, I'll just order the 10pack myself.

good luck in actually receiving them. I used their super saver shipping once for a case of figures. They emailed me a tracking number when it left thier warehouse. I checked each day to see its progress (I live in PA, FYI). I got to somewhere in Wisconsin I think, and sat there over the weekend. No problem. I cehck back on Monday, still there, Tuesday - still there, Wednesday-still there. The package sat in wisconsin for over a week. Finally I called EE and askend them what the heck was going on. I cancelled the order since they said they would have to call the shipment back and resend it. Three weeks later, the case arrived at my house. Contacted EE again, EE sent a UPS calltag (shows who they trust) to pick it up and that was the last time I used Super Saver shipping.

I'll answer both this question and the same one posted in the Rebel Droids topic - yes to the question about them being previously seen/used sculpts.

Looking at the droids, it appears Hasbro has used everything from the POTJ R4 sculpt to the ROTS R4-G9 sculpt, along with the AOTC Sneak Preview R3 droid sculpt as well.

I tossed these pics together real quick -

Imperial Droids (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v24/jay12501/droids1.jpg)

Rebel Droids (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v24/jay12501/droids2.jpg)

Toonimator

R3-Y2 is the AOTC Preview R3... the pic just makes it and R3-T6's heads look odd. The only molds used are the AOTC R3, POTJ R4-M9, and ROTS R4-G9, not VOTC R2 (unless R2-A6 is a retooled VOTC R2-D2, given the 3rd leg is missing so we can't tell whether it's detachable or retractable, or whether the foot swivels [but I highly doubt they used VOTC R2 for ANY droid let alone one out of 10]) VOTC R2 is quite different from R4-G9, but both are much better proportioned that AOTC Sneak Preview R3. It'd be nice if they could've at least used the feet from R4-G9 on the other droids so they'd all have cables.

What's this about the "correct eye" lighting up? Both R4 molds have the large middle eye lighting up, so that should be fine. Were there droids where the holo-projector lit up instead? Or what?

Yup. For those who are too lazy to go check out the site:

"R4-G9's mold will be used for all traditional R2 units, which is to say, all the droids without clear or cone domes. The cone headed droids will use the R4-M9 mold, and the clear domed droids will use the R3-T7 molds. If the original molds have wires, so will the new ones, if they didn't, then they won't."

DarthMaulSithLord
08-08-2005, 04:14 PM
Dang that is soooo stupid.

Why use R4-G9's mold when you have the one from the E1 Royal Starship, which is more accurate and better articulated.

I'm stumped.

I was really looking forward to these sets, but it looks like Hasbro doesn't know what the hell they are doing.

I know everyone is excited about these droids but all I keep hearing is the way the droids are wrong this way and that way. I know it's upsetting that Hasbro has once again rehashed something else by not giving us the proper molding but people if you don't like them then don't buy them. If it will bother you everytime you have to look at one of those droids and you say it's just not right, than there is no use in buying them. I like the droids, rehashed, same molding or what...they're better than no droids at all.

Just my 2 cents!!!

The Episode 1/Saga "Jabba's Sail Barge" version is far inferior to the R4-G9 mold if you ask me. Heck, every other astromech design is inferior to the R4-G9 mold.

The turning dome/retractable leg feature is finally the perfect solution to the retractable leg problem thats existed for just about forever.

The legs, which are basically the VOTC R2's, are perfect in that the feet no longer have painted wires on them, the wires actuall stick out just like they would on a real droid.

And the wheels in the feet finish the design off by giving it even more realism.

Basically, the R4-G9 mold is about as perfect as it can get. You get the Episode 1/Saga astromech design, the POTJ/Saga/OTC R2 design (the wheel idea), and the VOTC R2 all in one.

I'll gladly take an astromech which has the R4-G9 mold than the crummy Episode 1/Saga astromech design or POTJ/Saga/OTC design anyday.

The only thing Hasbro could have done better was just use the R4-G9 mold and change the heads, which I hope they do in the future. Toss out those old Episode 1/POTJ/Saga/OTC molds, stick with the ROTS R4 body.

Toonimator
08-08-2005, 05:20 PM
The red Royal Starship astromech doesn't have "real" cables like VOTC R2 and R4-G9 do. That alone makes it inferior to the mold they're using, as well as the nifty retractable leg feature. You still get the clicking-head action so long as you keep turning the head the same way after the 3rd leg is fully extended or retracted, and you don't have to dig for that leg and potentially damage it by pushing or pulling it yourself.

They probably don't want to create new molds for R4-cone, R5, and R3 heads to fit the G9 body at this time, as I think the diameters are slightly different, but maybe in the future they can tweak 'em. R5-D4 had BETTER be on this body when they finally get around to him!!!

I think those look fantastic. I just can't see myself dropping $45 bucks for each of them. I really want that black one.

Woh, as much as I want this, 40 bucks for 5 figures!! Damn, I think I'll be without these lil droids for the time being!! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I don't know, maybe I'll change my mind come January!! I mean I did pay 12 bucks plus for one Clone Trooper and will probably do the same for the Utapau one as well!! Besides that Green Astromech is sweeeet!!
