So yesterday I got a 4 gig iPod mini, and it worked great, i got songs on it, and everything was fine, until this morning. I opened i-tunes to put more songs on, and my ipod folder was absent...eventhough my ipod was plugged into the USB port. Now all that's happening is it's flashing Do Not Disconnect even though it's not doing anything. I tried erasing the iPod and the iPod updater crashed. Am I missing something stupid, or is it really broken (hope Best Buy takes refunds on iPods)

This problem has never happened to me. Apple.com has message boards, with experts that can help you. Whenever I have a problem, that's where I go.

Just out of curiosity, what color did you go with? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wanted a Pink...but Best Buy was out of them http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif. So then I looked at green, and it looked stupid, and silver was ugly too, so I got blue. Darn I wish I could have gotten a pink one!

I just picked up a Blue 4 GB Mini as well, but I should have waited to buy it online. Right now you get free laser engraving on them up to 35 Characters. That would have sweet to have it personalized. Haven't experienced that problem yet though...

Did you get it figured out?

I too have the blue. Ordered direct from apple with the education discount and free engraving. Ended up being less than it was at Best Buy.

Tell me exactly what's happening. Number it off step by step and use the words that appear on screen. I'll try to save you a trip to Best Buy.

It sounds like more of a problem with your iTunes than the iPod. Maybe try re-downloading your iTunes...

Basically the screen flashes Do not Disconnect all the time. If I do disconnect this weird folder with an exclamation point appears.

Something just came up saying iTunes file is corrupt, please run chkdisk. But I can't find chkdisk. It also came up with something saying: iTunes temoprary 3 is corrupt. Please go to iTunes.exe

Go into your Control Panel and uninstall Itunes. Reinstall it from the apple site using the most current version. As you can tell your problem is indeed with itunes and not your ipod.

Go ahead and run a check for viruses as well before you reinstall itunes.

I received an Ipod Photo for my graduation gift from high school. Currently my ipod is formatted for Windows only and I cannot get any music off of my friend's MAC. How do I change the format to work with both Windows and Apple? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I don't think you can. I think once it's formatted for one you have to reset it to format it for the other.

And thanks to everyone who gave me advice, I took it back to Best Buy, and the geek squad (that's what they're called) said that it was bacause I was using pirated music, and I was like: "What the heck, all my friends use pirated music!" and he then said it was because i'm using a newer iPod and that Apple is like anti music piracy or something....oh well...I got it to work! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You can only use your ipod with one music library on one computer. I know. It sucks.

Not to mention that if you have Windows XP and separate accounts within that operating system you have to be logged on under your account because ITunes is on all accounts and if you add songs from another person's XP accounts you clear and start a new library.... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Ok, a question for the Ipod users out there.

I am thinking of getting my wiffe one for Christmas, and 8GB probably.

I know nothing about them.
How hard is it to get music onto the Ipod?
How much fiddling around on the computer is it going to take for this to happen?
I use Windows XP, I've heard that Apple Ipods have troubles with this, is this true?
Is there some kind of software I have to download to make all this happen?

I would like to know the pros and cons of owning an Ipod as well. Not so much the line of "it's great, I can port my music around". I'm more about the technical side, like the questions above, because I'm most likely going to have to be the one who uploads songs onto it and have to troubleshoot problems that will inevitably come down the pike.

Getting music on it is very easy, you just rip it from CDs into iTunes or buy it from the iTunes store, then plug the iPod into the computer and "sync" it on there (which usually happens automatically). I use Windows XP also and haven't had any problems (except losing my music library due to hard drive failure, but I doubt that problem is exclusive to XP and I've read about several programs that can recover libraries off of iPods - I'm in the process of working that out - FYI, iTunes lets you recover purchased items from the iTunes store but not songs ripped from CDs, so far as I can tell). The only thing you need to download is iTunes, which is free and available at Apple's site.

Thanks for the info. People at work, who have more "experience" in using and selling these things have given me a wide range of answers to my questions, some of the most troublesome being that Apple's Ipod will not sync up to Windows and can cause crashes, so buying a Zune would be best for a Windows based PC.

If I'd have known it was this easy to use/upload an Ipod, I probably would have bought one a while ago.

Oh well, at least now I have a sure fire winner for Christmas!

I got a 160 GB Ipod a few months ago, and I love it. I have all my music and four episodes of my favorite TV series, and still have over 144 GBs of memory. I wish the SW saga was on itunes.

After looking around, I might be getting an 80GB. For only $50 more, you can vastly increase the amount of storgae.

Do connection cables, such as power and hooking up to a PC come included? Or is that a seperate purchase?

All they come with is a connector. All you need to do is click on itunes and everything that's in your library ports over. There's no "ipod" folder.

If you want to charge it some way other than by plugging it into your computer, you need an separate AC Adapter. The one I got cost $30.

I saw some hand held rechargers at Target for like twenty bucks.
