View Full Version : The Skywalker Twins' Cousins

Never crossed my mind before, but while recently thinking of family of Anakin and Padme, I realized Luke & Leia should have a few living relatives by blood, even if not through their father' side.

By the time of ANH Padme's parents, Ruwee and Jobal Naberrie may very well still be kicking around, being Vader's In-laws, and Luke and Leia's Grandparents.

Padme's sister Sola would be Vader's Sister-in-law, while being Luke and Leia's Aunt.

And finally, Sola's daughters, Ryoo, age six at time of AOTC, and Pooja, age four, would be Luke and Leia's twenty-nine and twenty-seven year-old cousins.

I assume in EU, they learned of their mother's origins, and would eventually want to visit her home world, possibly even visiting her resting place.

They should meet up with their post-ROTJ thirty or fourty year-old cousins.

Nice connection, that's something that's never really occured to me either. That could make a good storyline! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very good point and an interesting notion. The members of the Naberrie family are listed as characters in most of the ROTC cast lists I've read. Has there been any word on what parts they might play or what happens to them in the film? They were cut out of AOTC.

Maybe Palpatine wipes them all out. I could see it. He wouldn't want old Ani getting interested in one of Padme's sisters. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've read a ton of EU, but I don't think that the identity of the twins' mother was ever discovered. Of course, most of the EU was written well before the prequels, so they wouldn't get into it.

Though I'm not sure how public the knowledge would be. The marriage was a secret, and the knowledge (or at least identity) of the twins was hidden from Anakin. I think that Padme was almost certianly hidden away from Anakin, and Bail most likely didn't tell Leia much of Padme to protect her from Vader.

My point is that the twins knew next to nothing of their parentage. Leia probably was never told her mother's real identity, just as Luke was never told of his father's real identity. In addition, even knowing about Vader/Anakin, there's no means for the twins to connect the two of them, since the marriage was secret. So because of that, they'd have no reason to seek out Padme's family, and Padme's family would have no reason to seek out the twins.

EDIT: Forgot that important last sentence...

GL has kept tight ropes on the history of Yoda and the twins mother. Basically authors havn't been able to explore them.

Thats slightly changed recently, see for example the novel Tattooine ghost, where Leia finda out all about lil Annie. After Ep3 is released though its anyones ball, I guess its one storyline thats going to provide fodder for EU.

I still think Palpatine wipes them out. I'm sure he invites them to his retreat on Naboo and shows them the real power of the dark side. After Padme got in his way for all those years, I'm sure he enjoyed it too. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Actually, as of TG, she was still pretty upset with him. I don't think she actually made peace with her memory of him until much later. (Can't remember off hand which book it was, but Anakin's spirit appeared to her once, and I think it was in that book that she sort of forgave him.)

I thought TG was one of the better books. I like what it did for Shmi.

For all you EU haters out there, I may disagree with you, but I'm going to save one of you a precious two minutes of your life by jumping into the future and returning with the following inevitable quote:

This is why the EU is stupid.

Okay, I don't see EU as stupid (though some surely is). I just think that you have to take it for what its worth. Sometimes, EU goes off in a direction that is totally un-SW, and then I sort of wince a little. Kinda like when I saw Greedo shooting.

Back when I was just a young lad, and an avid ST fan, the word came out that there was an animated series in the works. I jumped on my families typewriter(!) and cranked out a script, which I sent in and it promptly got rejected. I was crushed. I tried really hard to stay true to the characters and humor and such. All my sci-fi geek friends loved it. The problem? I had Kirk dealing with explaining high-tech stuff to a primitive culture by trying to pass himself off as a god (in fact, the title was: For the Gods Will Show Us). This turned out to be taboo in the ST universe, but I still have my nifty little rejection letter somewhere. But I learned something. When writing for a frnachise, the writer has a responsibility to the fans to keep the story true to the original concept (despite what Harlan Ellison thinks).

Of course, this didn't stop ST:TNG from using the gist of my script in one of their episodes. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Old topic, but I just realized that this isn't just EU. In the AOTC deleted scenes, the one where Anakin and Padme arrive on Naboo and are walking to the Palace, Padme tells Anakin that her sister's kids are very adorable, or something to that effect.

Keep it in the family I say! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif Seriously though, I'm surprised this has never really been touched on. Would make a decent EU story.

Who knows. After the Empire is defeated, maybe Luke and Leia decide to trace their lineage to Naboo.

Long discussions over dinner with Padmé's neices and nephews would make a great EU story. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

She can just blame tarkin instead of her father. Now as to how her mom kicked the bucket thats a different story all together.

(oops this is non spoiler isnt it) There is another who knows both familes and dealt with the Anakin and Padme who could talk to Luke and Leia.

I dunno. We saw Luke getting freaky with his sister. No telling what he'd do with a cousin. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/icons/eek.gif

The ghost of Jar Jar Binks will show them the way, but accidently walk them off a cliff in the process.
