Just received Sideshows newsletter. Looks like the Luke Skywalker statue goes on pre-sale Aug 6th...

See the LINK. (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=lukepreview) .

Was anyone else less-than-impressed with the face sculpt or is it just me. I love the pose, but really hate the face (http://www.rebelscum.com/gallery/sdcc04/stage2/image42.asp), it looks like something out of a horror movie...

I'll reserve judgement for the final piece shown at Sideshow. I was disapointed in the sculpt on the piece shown at SDCC, but it was still a work in progress. Guess we'll find out on the sixth what we will be getting as a final product.

How much will it cost? It's a great looking collectable.

Me too. They still have time to change it.

The face definately still needed some work, but the body, pose, & clothing looked nice. (The Sideshow rep I spoke with mentioned of a price range of $129, but I am not sure how accurate that will be) If Sideshow improves the faces on these pieces, I would definately collect this series. Curious to see what happens with this company, I liked dealing with them at SDCC. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The bigger pieces in this size line goes for $300. So I would assume a pricepoint of $250 or so. Logan is that price, why not these?

The overall statue looks great to me. If I buy any of these statues, it would mainly be for the realistic clothings so I dont really mind with the human face sculpts not looking accurate enough.

Yeah, that face sculpt definitely needs some work. The Han Solo statue looked much better. Although the more I look at these, the more they look a little too much like "dolls" to me, somehow...because of all the real fabric and stuff. I think I'll stick with traditional statues, especially at the price. I'm with Pedro, I'm inclined to think they'll be more along the lines of $250-300, like Sideshow's other statues similar to the Luke and Han - unless the final versions are going to be much smaller than expected or something. Though I don't know why a SS rep would have said $129....

SandmanTR

Don't get me wrong. The Luke pose is amazing. Right out of the movie. The realism in the pose and what he's wearing is very close to being perfect. I just don't know why accurately sculpting the face is so hard to accomplish. It just seems like it's the hardest of all the parts to master for a lot of these companies that produce statues/busts.

However, I'm very happy with the GG Luke in Stormie. I really like that face sculpt.

Sideshow Luke Available for Pre-Order (http://www.starwars.com/collecting/news/2004/08/news20040806.html)

One of the eye-catching product premieres at this year's Comic-Con International were prototype samples of Sideshow Collectibles' new line of -scale Star Wars figures. The first in this series, the 17" Luke Skywalker as seen in A New Hope, is now available for pre-order at StarWarsShop.com.
Before he became a hero in the Rebellion and the last of the Jedi Knights, Skywalker was a simple farmboy living on the parched desert world of Tatooine. He would escape the drudgery of farm living by daydreaming of incredible adventures, and he would often look off to the future, to the horizon, craving to explore the worlds beyond the twin suns of Tatooine.

Sideshow captures this iconic scene from A New Hope in an amazing 17" figure. Sideshow's skilled artists carefully examined Lucasfilm's vast archives in order to bring you a Luke Skywalker collectible that's more than just a figure, it's a work of art. The museum quality mixed-media figure is composed of polystone, metal and expertly tailored clothing.

Pre-order this product today from StarWarsShop.com by clicking here (http://shop.starwars.com/Product/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=408&ReferrerID=SMCMFP-00001).

Make sure you get your order in early because it could end up being a quick sellout. If you are on the fence I would suggest ordering it now because you can always cancel later.

What's great about Sideshow is they don't charge your card until your item is ready to ship.

Especially if the run is a low number...I'm sure it will pre-sell out quickly like a lot of the LOTR statues.

Sweet, I just put my order in with SWS.com.
It seems like I am in the minority on this, but to me, these look really great. Yeah, I think some of the paint on the face could be changed but all in all I think they are awesome. And not too bad on the price considering it was $236 shipped with my hyperspace discount. Now all I have to do is wait a long time. Ugh.:(

Can't believe there hasn't been more talk about this one today. I'm a bit surprised by the edition size. I would have expected a minimum 3,500 - 5000. Order soon if you want one.

Exactly Sandman, thats what Sideshow does, they wait until a few weeks after the release of an item to determine the Edition Size, very typical of theirs and Weta's LOTR lines..

It looks like they changed it up a a bit by going w/ a closed-mouth sculpt instead of showing Luke's pearly whites like we saw in the prototype. IMHO, this version has really improved on the likeness. I certainly don't have any regrets pre-ordering now. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Totally agree with you on that point. I saw the proto at Comic Con and wasn't all that impressed. I did pre-order it in hopes that some re-designs would happen. It looks like the face changed some, at least enough for me to get excited about receiving the final product.

I'm with you Jimbo. I gotta slow down on spending so it was not hard to pass on this one.....even after seeing the revisions.

Now when Vader, Stormtroopers, Boba or Jango come out....then it will be hard to resist.

When they do a Clone Trooper I will buy for sure.

I just hope they don't go crazy with rank variations....

It does look better but I still don't care for the idea of "real clothing" on a statue. It's too bad they didn't show the pics before it sold out, as I'm sure a lot of people were waiting to see what the final product would look like before investing that much money into one. If you missed out on ordering one, and wish now that you had, I would suggest searching different online stores. Even though it's sold out on Sideshow's site, you can probably find one someplace else if you look hard enough. You may even find it for a lower price.

I have items from both companies as well. I have some of the Lord of the Rings/WETA statue's and the paint jobs on them don't even come close to Gentle Giant. Sideshow has some quality issues too, I normally have to return my first statue to them just to get one that isn't totally messed up. So far I have the Gimli, Boromir, King Theoden, and Morgul Lord. Theoden had a paint error and had to be returned, Boromir was missing paint on his face, Gimli was missing paint on his beard and detail was left off on him, and Morgul Lord had some unpainted spots and the way he was in the styrofoam some how made the spikes on the back of his helmet crush in really close to his head. I'm not saying Sideshow isn't any good, my preference though is Gentle Giant since I haven't had to return one piece and they in my opinion have better customer service.

Have to admit, sideshow's earlier stuff blew away anything made today (Cave Troll, True form Witchking, . That was before the 5,000+ edition sizes. When the edition sizes went up their Quality took a hit, particularly the hand painting. Although with the recent release of Ringwraith on Steed and Morgul Lord statues, they have redeemed themselves.

With regards to Luke looking sick, it appears the final photo had poor color:

http://www.boomspeed.com/kangolkid/Colorluke.jpg

IMO, it's the best likeness of Luke. Especially for it's size.

For anyone who missed out on the Luke I know a site that has pre-orders available for an AWESOME price! I have never personally ordered anything from this site up untill now, but on other forums for LOTR they speak very highly of them. Plus the site operator posted that they still have some. The deal is that you have to pay for the item up front. The Luke is $219 on their site, BUT if you order over $200 you get 30% off and Free shipping! Go to Angelsintheoutfield.net, click on statues and busts place your order for luke and put the code 001 in at checkout and you will get the Sideshow Luke for $153.30 w/free shipping get them while you can.
