View Full Version : Movie title actually bad for fans

I was just thinking how close the movie title Revenge Of The Sith is to the movie title Revenge Of The Nerds. Gives anti-Star Wars fans more reason to pick on us now.

I think it's because ROTJ was going to be named Revenge of the Jedi... EP3 is called Revenge of the Sith. Kind of a reflection to the OT? However, I doubt anti-Star Wars fans will pick on us just because Revenge of the Jedi and Revenge of the Nerds are somewhat similar. If that is the case, we can always siphon our anger into the Star Trek fans. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I imagine a late-night talk show host (Kilborn, maybe?) might pick up on it, but not the average people. They've got plenty of other ammo against us. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think that's a bit of a stretch. Not that it matters if people give us grief anyway. Would any of us really be collecting this stuff if being called geeks or fanboys upset us that much? It sort of comes with the territory, so I say embrace it.

http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif Last night, the woman working behind the counter at my local video store made fun of me because I was renting a Star Wars film. I also have received some comments over the years from checkout girls at different stores whenever I buy figures. The most widely heard one is "You are buying these for yourself?"

None of it bothers me.

Anti-SW fans can kiss my butt. I don't care what kind of comments I get from other people when collecting. It's something that I enjoy. I think other people should just respect that we have our own hobbies.

Star Wars is as mainstream as it gets. If some 19-year-old ******* that thinks "the Matrix" is as good as it gets, then his opinion is irrelevant anyway.
The lack-of-love/***-life insult usually handed to Trekkies has never come up against any SW fan I know. Then again, I already have a "paper trail" on the romantic front that shows I, and I'm sure most of you, have a quite substantial life outside of RS.
Now if we could just get Gregg out to the pub, lol. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I agree, I normally don't find people harassing me about SW, and if they did, I wouldn't care. After the film comes out I don't think anybody will make any references to Nerds.

Not sure if its a UK thing but people here tend to have more important thigns to worry about, if anything SW has a certain coolness about it.
Anyway im 6,4". I'd like to see someone make fun to my face, lol

But seriously if anyone uses "revenge of the nerds" as a tag it will be the media.

Wow. I don't think that I have ever been made fun of for being a Star Wars fan. I don't live and die over it (though the PT has pushed me close to the death thing http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif).

One of the problems with the PT is that it has pushed the gap between SW fans and the general public even wider.

Well, if you look at TV-programs dealing with SW or ST or even SciFi fans in general, just look at who they interview.

They ALWAYS zero in on the spotty, nerdy types. Just so they can keep the prejudice going.

Exactly. Though I'm a self-admitted Star Wars geek, I don't look like the "stereotypical" ones that you mentioned. I can actually blend in with regular society!

And like Neil , I'm also 6'4" and around 220 lbs.
Most people tend to leave me alone.

He could represent the geeks of Europe and I could represent the US! And oddly enough, my name is Neal as well.
It could be the battle of the century!
What do you think, Neil ? Are you up for it?

haha i'd pay for that pay-per-view, but only if you wear some kind of SW costumes.. One could dress up as R2D2 and one could dress up like C3PO.. Good things..

Lol, I'd rather go in the ring with some of the Jarjar lovers.
http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm just outside Borehamwood, Aren't they filming the Wookie scenes right now? perhaps I should go see if I can't get Darth Rayne and me a walk-on part?

They currently have the UK Big Brother going on at the same site, security is supposed to be very poor- perhaps I should just turn up in a wookie costume, lol

I say we do it! You just tell me when and where, and I'll be there with my Wookiee costume.

I'll get buddy-buddy with someone and see if Lucasfilm can fly you over.
Bet it would be nice for them to pay you for once eh?

Think about it. The title would have been perfect if only AOTC was titled "The Clone Wars" It would have been perfect because it would parallel with the OT titles and make the saga flow together and tie in nicely.

But its just that we dont see the clone wars, only the start and end.
Good title though, either that or "The Trade Federation are Planning to Strick Back" or TTFAPTSB if you will.

I really wish we would have seen more of the clone wars on film, but if we see the final battles and they are amazing, maybe we can live with it.

The problem with the title for me is trying to explain the Sith. Everyone knows I love Star Wars, so they ask me. Then, you have to decide how far to go explaining the mythology. If you go too far, people fade out. Usually I just give up and say "You know Darth Vader, yeah, he is a sith."

You are talking total nonsense. The PT has brought a lot of the general public into the SW fandom. There are so many new fans now, most of them children. TPM grossed so much money (remember it was on #2 till Harry Potter came out) the fans themselves could have never spent by themselves. The general public made this movie so successful. Multiple reshowings of thousands of fans are nothing compared to millions of general moviegoers.

bjlevine

Hey, I'm not saying that millions didn't see it...just that millions didn't like it. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Please don't try and pretend that the general consensus is not that the PT is an inferior product to the OT. If you want to make a case for TPM fine, but don't try and spin it that people generally love the PT the way they do the OT. That's just foolishness.

If the movie is one of quality then i wouldn't worry about the title of the film. however if its a clunker then look out all bets are off http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I think that I'll start referring to E3 as "Sith", the way we often refer to ROTJ as simply "Jedi".
