Great news. I was worried that we wouldn't have anything out of Topps until the E3 set(s). Should be pretty easy to put together a set.

Outrageous! Cant wait to collect these!

Here's hoping a matching album is made.

Can someone tell me the difference between retail and hobby boxes?

MysterySith
01-16-2004, 10:03 PM
I may not be totally correct.

Hobby boxes cater for to the collecters like us and can be bought from places like Hobby shops and have better ratios for inserts. I believe retail boxes can be bought at places like Walmart, etc.

The official site was a little vague on when and where we expect to see the 3 promo cards show up. It was worded in a way where it sounded like they will post a news update for the 3rd exclusive promo card, but maybe they were talking about all 3 promo cards. Anyone have info on these?

There will, however, be and Episode 3 spoiler via the Ep3 Clone trooper design on one of the cards. lol, of course, it may just be this: http://forums.rebelscum.com/ubb/icons/icon18.gif

I'm also going to hazard a guess and say that the online store of Paizo will be the one selling the promo, but that's just a guess on my part.

Hey everyone. I just got the promo card #1. It is given away with the new Previews catalog. You can get this at most comic book shops. Any news on promo #2 or #3?

Durge

What is Previews?

Sebulba_X
02-03-2004, 08:51 AM
Previews (http://previews.diamondcomics.com/) is a catalog/magazine that comic stores and similar places use to order new comics, trading cards, and other similar collectibles to resell. They sell it to regular customers so they can fill out a form and tell the shop owner what they want or something like that.

Nice shot of what will probably be the box art (http://previews.diamondcomics.com/products/cards/feb_04/05_sw_clone.html).

Edit:
Just noticed that StarWarsCards.Net has the boxes & cases up for pre-sale (https://www.universalcards.net/page.asp?Ag=Kendrick). Boxes $59, Cases $465 (8 boxes + case auto card). Ship/Release date set at April 30.

According to a letter from Topps that an ebay seller posted in his auction, the following is listed at their marketing support:

"Promotion: We are widely distributing three different promo cards in: Non-Sport Update magazine, various trade publications, Lucasfilm's starwars.com website... plus conventions and other fan giveaways."

Probably going to be the new "secret online store" the OS keeps mentioning as far as selling this promo card and those pin sets they just announced.

Most widely distributed promo cards usually end up being worth $1...maybe $3 if it's only in a certain magazine. I don't know what the online store hopes to get out of it...the whole idea of a promo card is that it's a free advertisement for an upcoming set, so hopefully they'll just give it away with any order or something.

Fletch
02-27-2004, 08:59 AM
the sketch cards sound great - but does anyone know how many there will be?? you could read the starwars.com article and think its only one per artist - but i hope its more than that...

i know other card sets breaks down the chase cards into different ratios - do you think this will happen with the clone wars cards and if so, when do we normally hear about them??

Sebulba_X
02-27-2004, 11:06 AM
Over at the StarWarscards.net forums there's a couple of dicussions going on about this...basically, I think each artist will (hopefully) sketch out the same basic image any number of times. There was a link over there that pointed to all the Battlestar Gallactica (sp?) sketch cards and it appears that each artist did a couple different pictures (and then some were inked, and some were even colored) images/icons/shocked.gif

Depending on how rare these end up being, I think I'll consider my set complete if I get one sketch from each artist.

Has anyone heard about how much a box will be? I'll probably get this anyways.

Oh, btw, did you guys get the P1 card in the April "Previews" magazine published by Diamond Comics? Pretty neat.

Sebulba_X
02-27-2004, 02:14 PM
StarWarsCards.com Online Store (https://www.universalcards.net/page.asp?Ag=Kendrick) is preselling boxes for $59 each and cases (8 boxes) for $465 each. Given that a pack of these cards will probably retail for $1.99 each...36 packs will cost you $71.64 + tax...so there's definately some savings in buying in bulk, particularly if you're going to go after the chase cards. If you're just wanting a common card set (maybe the sticker set)...I'd just get them on the cheap via ebay. People going after complete sketch card sets, etc, will have tons of common sets to get rid of and will bascially dump them in order to recoop some of their costs.

The Collector's Connection at StarWarsCards.Net is holding a series of contests in which first prize is a set of the P1 & P2 promos plus the Dealer Ad Sheet, second prize is just the P1 & P2 cards. Collectors patiently waiting for the new Star Wars: Clone Wars collectible card set, due out in mid-April 2004 from Topps, can now get the first look at Artist Sketch Cards from Cartoon Network micro-series Star Wars: Clone Wars artist Paul Rudish, as well as information about an Episode III Sneak Peek card of "the new bad guy," General Grievous.
Focusing on the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated micro-series, as well as select Clone Wars-related art from Dark Horse and other sources, one of the more collectible aspects of the card set are the unique Artist Sketch Cards showcasing Clone Wars characters drawn by some of the most well-known comic book artists from Dark Horse, as well as the creators behind the Cartoon Network micro-series Star Wars: Clone Wars, Genndy Tartakovsky and Paul Rudish.

Here's a first look at some of the Artist Sketch Cards drawn by Paul Rudish for the Topps series.

"Each artist draws directly on to blank cards so that each sketch is a brand new, original, unique, one-of-a-kind, uber-fantastic piece of art," explains Matt Saunders, Topps Editor-Entertainment Cards/Licensing.

"The nine images here represent a sample of Paul's amazing sketches," Saunders continues. "There are many, many more images and additional characters that he's drawn on the cards."

Other artists involved in the Artist Sketch Cards project include: Genndy Tartakovsky (Cartoon Network Star Wars: Clone Wars), Davidé Fabbri (Star Wars: Jedi Council - Acts of War), Doug Wheatley (Star Wars: Empire), Kilian Plunkett (Star Wars: Droids - Rebellion), Rodolfo Migliari (Star Wars: Infinities - Return of the Jedi), Tomás Giorello (Star Wars: Republic), John McCrea (Star Wars Tales #12), Joe Corroney (Star Wars Insider: HoloNet News), Pop Mhan (Star Wars: Jedi Quest), Robert Teranishi (Star Wars: Union), Rafael Kayanan (Dark Horse: Star Wars: Chewbacca), and Dave Dorman (Dark Horse Classics - Star Wars: Dark Empire).
