View Full Version : Rebelscum Hyperspace Policy

Some of you probably have been wondering how Rebelscum intends to police threads about the new OSWS Hyperspace section. Here are some does and don'ts:

In order to keep Hyperspace special for those who wish to pay for the service we will comply with the wishes of Lucasfilm. You can read the statement at their message boards (http://forums.starwars.com/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=121996).

And just so everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet here is some clarification:

For example, there might be unofficial websites out there that repost Hyperspace content (text, images or video) in an attempt to become an alternative to subscription. <font size="2" face="arial">Rebelscum will not become the unofficial cut and paste site for Hyperspace. That isn't to say that you can't let other Hyperspace members know that there is something new and interesting over at the OSWS - just don't go posting their content in the Rebelscum forums.

No subscription-based images, movies or articles shall be placed in these forums except in the following situation:

Quoting a single sentence on occasion where necessary to illustrate a point can be okay, but going beyond that gets troublesome. We do encourage discussion about Hyperspace content, but doing so shouldn't replace reading the original content itself. <font size="2" face="arial">We are happy to encourage discussions on Hyperspace news, and in some cases posts may include the occasional sentance or two but pasting in whole paragraphs or articles in not permitted. For example if Hyperspace were to have published the news that Chewbacca was returning to the screen in Episode Three, then it would be fine to start a discussion/speculation thread on this and use a short excerpt from the original story. It would not be cool to start the thread by copying the whole article for non-paying members to read.

If you still aren't convinced then consider this analogy:

The purpose of Hyperspace is to reveal movie sensative news on a subscription basis, and as such any news posted on Hyperspace is not in the public domain. Therefore revealing any Hyperspace information is like revealing a spoiler. Some people might not want that - infact it might be the very reason that they are not joining the programme. So please respect their wishes and post spoiler material to the correct section. Check out TheForce.Net (http://cgi.theforce.net/theforce/tfn.cgi?storyID=11955) for our spoiler policy. If you do have news that is a spolier please observe the Rebelscum spoiler policy (http://www.rebelscum.com/forumguide.asp) as outlined in our forum rules and guidelines.

That should cover everything for now. If it doesn't please stick a note here and wait for one of the moderators to clear the situation up first. Let's get this right early on and save us all from any sticky moments.

Following your suggestion, Jeremy, please take a look at this [/b]thread (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=821914&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#821914)[/b].

Posts like these have no value whatsoever, because there's nothing to discuss when you don't have direct access to the source quoted.
Besides, the 2 people initially involved in the post (one of them a... *cough* ... *cough*... "moderator" http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif) have been doing little else other than bringing to these boards their personal... "issues". I'm not making this up: you just have to read what they have been posting to confirm this. I hope there's some way to put an end to these guys "heated" (but pointless) debates. I'm sure Rebelscum is not/should not be about this.

And the(ir) insistence in asking for comments on something that most of us can't even see (because we chose not to) should be stopped.

Thanks for your time, Jeremy.

Theres nothing wrong with starting threads about Hyperspace material just as long as it's not copying exactly what is mentioned at the official website word by word and that no Hyperspace pictures are posted.

Yes that thread is pretty pointless since the thread starter is the only one posting in the thread. Not really an ongoing discussion about the images but rather just a lets post a link and title, it would probably be ok if there was interest in that thread itself but that doesn't seem to be the case since not alot of members here are part of HS and therefore can't really talk about the images.

I'm glad you agree with me.

Maybe even more emphasis should be put regarding HS-related posts, like a warning NOT to start posts asking for comments on something that can't be seen here.

All it takes is some common sense, and you as a moderator, should be able to enforce it. If I were you I'd stop the whole nonsense, before it goes too far. I just hope durge has stopped hating Australians... This would a step in the right direction http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You'll notice that I didn't post the latest image. I decided to discontinue posting in the thread since nobody could comment. Maybe we'll have more HS members in the future as a result of the fan club merger.

You and BH_GNT do have a knack at skipping the issue here (I'll grant you that)...
You 2 keep missing the point, as there's no reason for you - or anyone else, for that matter - to insist on starting threads on something very few of us have direct access to!

Even if EVERY single Rebelscum member were to be also a HS member, I am of the opinion that these boards are NOT place to discuss its contents. Go discuss that over at the Star Wars Community Message Boards (http://forums.starwars.com/). Don't you agree it's more appropriate?

And this, simply because of copyright/infringement issues in effect on this Forum (I agree with that).

There's a portuguese saying that goes something like this (I dont' know of the english equivalentT, but I' sure you'll all get the picture):

</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Do as I say, don't do the same as I do

[/QUOTE]

Meaning: you preach, but you don't follow. I (we) have lost count of how many threads you've started, simply to copy "ipsis verbis" what all of us can read elsewhere. Others have posted direct comments on this, but you don't seem to have understood them. Yet. And, what's more, you ask people to comment. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

P.S.: Don't take this the wrong way. I'm just expressing my feelings on something I see here and don't agree with. Nothing personal, mind you, OK?

If people wish to start threads on Hyperspace material then people can as long as they don't copy the picture and material exactly over to the forum. As long as the material is explained at some point then it shouldn't be a problem for non hyperspace members. Some threads about Hyperspace material have worked very well on the forum like the BTH series while some don't work like the Photoreceptor Thread. But to ban it altogether is bit much.

OK. Fine by me. I'm not trying to change the world. I leave this suggestion: do you think that a special section could be created here, specifically to address all things Hyperspace? This way this topic wouldn't clutter various other sections and if someone so chose, he/she could go there for any news, comments and stuff. Just a thought. Thanks.
