View Full Version : Question about Vader/Luke at Bespin

This may have already been answered/asked and if it has been, I'm sorry. But when Vader and Luke are battling at Bespin, and Luke nails Vader, how come he doesn't cut his arm off or something? Hell, at the angle, it probably would have cut his head off. Anyhoo, I'm bored and this got me thinking last night.

ps-if some of you guys can't decide about what college to go to, please take a trip to Georgia (UGA). There are fine women everywhere, EVERYWHERE!! I think it's a requirement on the application or something. I'm in the library and I have already seen around 25-30 women that I would have married on the spot. http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif

Mmy only guess if tha Luke didn't swing hard enough. There was not enough force to push it through him or Luke just didn't mean to hit him at that time, he though Vader would block it!

I think the best explaination I've heard is that it takes effort to cut with a lightsaber, and that the denser the material, the harder to cut. I think Vader must wear some pretty tough armor http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif Also, think about how hard Qui Gon hard to work to cut through the blast door - it didn't just slice like butter.

I think the "not enough force behind the slash" is half of it, the other being that Luke was making a risky move and knew that his maneuver would leave himself open longer and he got out of there as fast as possible.

Luke saw the sparks shoot out of Vader's cybernetics and jumped back(stopping him from cutting through Vader more) 'cause he didn't want to be burned. I don't seriously believe this, I think he didn't slice through Vader 'cause it would have sucked for the rest of Empire's and Jedi's story plots if Vader was killed then. http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/tongue.gif
