View Full Version : Boba Fett? Boba Fett? Where?

12-31-2000, 11:22 AM
Boba Fett – bounty hunter extraordinaire. What sets him apart? Why is he the most famous of all SW bounty hunters?

Is it the gadgets? The costume? The mystery? His proficiency in capturing Han during ESB? The preemptive reprimand from Vader about disintegrations? Slave I? Fett’s tendency not to speak?

I think a big part of it is the face-concealing helmet. He’s one of only two characters in SW who make us wonder what’s under the mask. (Well, maybe three if you count Boushh.) And he’s the only one of the three whose countenance is never revealed (at least, so far). The helmet’s design, too, is impressive, and it is offset by the segmented mandalorian armor, cape, and jetpack. How can one not be intrigued?

Personally, I think Boba Fett is just a winning combination of the stuff you've mentioned. The costume, the shady past, the ship and gadgets, and the way he was dealt with in the movies (up to his ill-written demise) just can't be beat. They designed a character that was destined to draw fans.

I'm not big into EU, but I like the idea of Fett escaping the Sarlaac. I don't like the fact that he's in so many EU comics and novels. Marvel's over-use of Wolverine ruined that character for me* and I hate to see that happening to Fett.

*until Hugh Jackman's superb performance in the X-Men movie, that is.

I think he's pretty darn nifty for being the one hunter clever enough to anticipate Han Solo's moves. He obviously knew Han was hiding the Falcon and Fett beat him at his own game by hiding himself and waiting for Han to make his move.

Boba Fett is shrouded in mystery. He was the first individual figure that was available via mail order. He is probably the most detail-oriented figure of the orginal line and he looks really f'n cool.

Personally i thought the Slave 1 was kind of dumb looking when you used it the right way.
A ship that flies vertical is not as cool as one that flies horizontal in my opinion.

Boba Fett has been my all time favorite since I first sent in 4 proofs of purchase and $1 for shipping and handling in 1979. He is by far the coolest looking character in SW, with Vader and Maul running a close 2nd and 3rd.
Beyond the way he looks there's the whole mystery about where he comes from and who he is, I guess alot of that will be cleared up in EP2. Also, who else is responsible for capturing one of our heroes? I guess you could say that Vader captured Leia in ANH, but he had the whole Imperial Army with him. Fett tracked and trapped Han Solo on his own.
The coolest thing about him though is the fact that he is the only bounty hunter spoken to directly by Vader and he speaks back. How many people get to give Vader lip and not get the old Force choke. IMHO Boba Fett is hands down the coolest character in the SW universe.

I've never really been a big Fett fan. It is odd that he can go from the ultimate cool bounty hunter in ESB to a bumbling fool in ROTJ.

That's a harsh indictment! I don't know that bumbling fool is a fair interpretation of that scene from ROTJ. Maybe a sad turn of events that BF's rocket pack got ignited, but a bumbling fool, that's rough. http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Fett's no more a bumbling fool in ROTJ than Maul is in TPM. What killed them both was their overconfidence and arrogance: Maul didn't think Obi hanging in a pit was a threat, and Fett didn't consider a blind Han to be a threat.

It was still a poorly written death scene, though.

Hey GMF, I don't think you're helping Boba Fett by comparing his weak-*** death with Maul's. http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif

Boba Fett is like Batman---he has a mysterious, dark past, he has lots of cool gadgets, and an imposing outfit. As such, he appeals to the five-year-old boy in all of us.

That's not really true. There have been a bout 1.2 million faces just like his revealed in EpII. Or do you mean the posible cars and such that he has received over the years? Now that would be cool to see.

Perhaps like how Boba and Jango get in their seats in AOTC? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Definetly the clothes, and also the fact that he was a man of few words. Helmet= Killer freakin awesome. Episode II totally ruined a lot of Fett for me, though. The intrigue and background mystery that was such a huge part of him, ruined. He was a lil' kid clone with a sppech impediment. Now I firmly believe he died in the Sarlacc Pit, just so I never have to hear "Taun We's hewe..." ever again.

Or maybe it was just Daniel Logan's Maori accent.
