GREAT FESTERING WOKKETS OF SPLINGE!!!

images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

That's pretty damn impressive. Don't think I'll ever own one, though. Too big, too pricey. If I win the lottery, though.... images/icons/grin.gif

That is, indeed, a great looking set. But out of my range for a Star Wars collectible. Bummer. Wonder how long it will take to assemble.

Unbelievable! Wow! I would love to know the weight on it as well. I've always craved for a huge-*** Star Destroyer toy since I was a kid and now it looks like we'll be getting one... and one we build ourselves too! If I can procure the financial resources, one of these suckers will be causing a shelf in my room to sag in the not-so distant future. images/icons/grin.gif

Hope I can afford it. But even if I could, I probably couldn't find any place to put it because it is so big! And, since it has a micro scale Blockade Runner, I finaly have a reason to build a microscale Imperial fleet!!!

I had to post on this, because I truly believe that this ship could single handedly cause me to collect the lego line (which I have ignored until now).

My oh my.

Unfortunately, we're likely going to have to wait quite a while for this thing to hit retail, after it's been available at the Lego site for a while (like the Blockade Runner). Then we'll have to wait even longer for it to go on clearance... Judging by the looks of this impressive beast though, the wait will be well worth it! It's amazing!

By the way ghostrider (original post), it's UCS, not USC. I hate USC. Go UCLA Bruins!

Once again LEGO comes up with a really expensive piece that some people will actually buy. Though, at almost $300, it's hard to imagine many being sold. I can't really see this ever making it to the regular stores because of the price point. May FAO Schwarz, and TRU Manhatten, but others just don't seem to have the ability to stock something this expensive. Which may mean it might not go on clearance.

Oh yes. I have the first 3 Original Trilogy Ultimate Collectibles, including the Blockade runner, the Xwing, and the Interceptor. I am a LEGO freak, and when it comes to ultimate collector series, I can't pass it up. And with this being the BIGGEST LEGO set anywhere EVER, I just can't miss it. The building hours, oh my..... images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

I have to agree that this set, like the Darth Maul bust, is one that you most likely wont see at retail stores. The fact that you saw the RBR clearanced out as low as $50 each tells me that retail stores will probably keep clear of a set that is even bigger in size and much more expensive. They dont want to take another huge hit by stocking it.
Your best bet to get it on any type of clearance, is if it goes on clearance from lego.com. The Maul bust just recently went down to $120 so there is hope. But you might be talking another year or more before that happens, if it happens at all.
I most definately will be picking one of these up as soon as theyre available. The question is now, where to display such a huge beast.

The introductory launch price of this set is $269.99 Holy Cow!! images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/shocked.gif images/icons/grin.gif , more than 3000 parts, this is incredible. More than 3 meters long, sh***********t images/icons/grin.gif That b@st@rd is huge images/icons/shocked.gif !!

This Star Destroyer is truly blow you away.

When I originally saw the Tantive IV Lego, I said: Why would they make this ship when they could've done the Star Destroyer?

Well now I see Lego has done it. Amazing.

The only thing is, I don't think LEGO goes on clearance very often. The only one I have seen on sale was the Collector's TIE Interceptor, and it was only reduced from $100 to $75.

I tip my hat to anyone who is buying this enormous ship, putting it together, and displaying it. I wish I could pull all that off, but I don't think I'll be able to.

Here is a link to the page:

shop.lego.com (http://shop.lego.com/)

Just go to star wars, and then to Ultimate Collector Series. Star Destroyer should be right there, second to last.

Ship date says dec 6th. StarWars.com said they were being release in November though, strange.

Great Holy Horse Cheese...

That thing is SAWEEET! Yeah, I don't have the room for it... Yeah I don't have the spare $300 to procure it... don't matter - I want it. images/icons/grin.gif

I can't help but wonder though... @ around 3k pieces, is it cheaper to get your hands on the building plans and buy the pieces individually? Yeah, you could wind up with a technicolor Destroyer, but if it saves $150...

Have one on order. I think when it is put together it will be the center piece in my museum.

According to Lego this kit will take around 12-hours to complete. So that means about 20-hours for those not really into legos.
So that means it will take me about 8-hours to build. images/icons/smile.gif

Wow...for my age I can build 500 piece sets in 45 minutes

Philip_Wise
10-29-2002, 09:51 PM
I've never wondered how fast I could build at LEGO. In fact, I generally take my time because building is the fun part. Hurrying doesn't make sense to me.

Though I see LEGO fans talk about this all the time. What's the reason for hurrying when building a LEGO set?

Quigonbyebye
10-29-2002, 10:00 PM
I agree! But at the rate I do'em I'd have to find space for the pieces for the three weeks it would take me. images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

faith4ever
11-01-2002, 01:00 AM
With 3k pieces, it'd probably take me somewhere on the level of a day to do it. I tend to take my time sometimes and savor the construction process.

Definitely wouldn't need to worry about pieces sitting around either - if I had my hands on the box, it'd be a willpower struggle to keep from ripping into it before I got home. images/icons/smile.gif

I am asking for one for Christmas. I sure hope that I get it. That set will look wonderful next to my UCS X-wing, TIE Interceptor, and Rebel Blockade Runner. It will probably take a couple of days to build, because when I build, I have to take breaks. 3,000 is not child's play, that is a heck of a lot of bricks.

But where will I put it? images/icons/wink.gif

Another nice scoop from the fellas over at FBTB (http://www.fbtb.net)! Even with those pictures, you still really can't fathom the enormousness (is that a word?) of that Star Destroyer box. Good guess on the item in that second picture there JC. I was trying to figure out what the hell that was as well, thinking it was a picture to hang on the wall, or something... But you're probably right - and instruction book. Holy cow!

I've waited to pick up all of the other UCS Lego ships on sale, so hopefully this one will wind up hitting retail stores somewhere down the line, and I can snag one for something less than three Benjamins. Otherwise, I'll have to be kissing my wife's butt for weeks (not that I don't already)!

It certainly is going to be one breathtaking ship!

I got mine on Tuesday and this thing is amazing. I started about 9:30 in the morning and had it finished 20 1/2 hours later. I didn't work on it straight though. My guess is that I spent between 11-14 hours building it.

I have 4 2x8 Dark Grey pieces left over though.

my girlfriend, bless her soul, got her parents and brother to pitch in and she managed to get me this thing...it's very intimidating for a lego kit...

anyone else get it as a xmas gift?

Yup, but i got it early cause its too big to hide anywhere in our apartment. images/icons/grin.gif

Mine arrived before Xmas so we could build it on Xmas.... We didn't wrap it because it would have taken too much paper. No chance getting it done in just one day though. Those that haven't put it together should know it's pretty hard to move once assembled. And the size makes it near impossible to find a place to put it.

01-01-2003, 03:01 AM
well now that the year is over, is freeshiping + introductory price gone as well?

01-01-2003, 04:21 AM
Yes to both. ISD now $299.

Darth_Mahler
01-02-2003, 01:09 AM
I sure did. Took me about 3 days on and off to build it. Never seen anything so big in my life as far as LEGOs go. images/icons/shocked.gif

I'd say about $550-$575 CDN. Mine was $480 CDN at the intro price (after tax and shipping)

I ordered my ISD a couple days after Christmas and shipping was $10. I wish the shipping would have been free but the $269 price helped out a lot.

Hey, anybody that got the Star Destroyer ->
Would any of you be kind enough to post pics of the mini blockade runner or scans of the instruction on how to build it. I can't afford the giant ship but I'd love to build my own mini blockade runner to go with my other minis. Thanks so much!

i got one for christmas...took about 20-25 hours spread over 3 days to finish...

i could have left the pieces all sorted out like someone did above, but i mixed them all together - because that's what building legos is all about, an hour search for one stupid little piece...oh wait, maybe i should have left them sorted...

quite an amazing kit...anyone have any idea what the new price is going to be? the 269$ was just the introductory price.

I just happened to get one for Christmas. Took me 3 days on and off to build it and oh man is it big. I had a hard time finding a place to put it. I will post pics when I get the chance. I was also surprised at how fragile it is. I have bumped it a couple of times very slightly and the two bottom panels nearly broke apart. I have already had to do some repairs once. But I guess it's my own fault, it's not very high up because no shelves that I have were big enough, so it is on my dresser.

Overall though, this is definitely the centerpiece of my Star Wars collection. No doubt about it. Any hardcore LEGO fan needs this ship. images/icons/smile.gif

First of all, who ever got through this in less than 24hrs is a god.

I like to start off with who ever hasn't built it yet here is some pointers.

The first part in the book when you make the frame, make sure you build to because it makes you do it all over again.

Secaond do no open all the little pieces b/c those are so hard to find when need be.

Third good luck with the casing. you make 2 bottom ones and those are the hardest to stay on.

Darth_Animos
02-04-2003, 03:40 PM
The first time I did it in 22 hrs, but I thought that was slow. My second attempt took 18 or so. Some people on here claim to have done it in 10-12. Thats all great advice, I'd like to add try to put it together in the spot where you what to display it. It's very hard to move and quite fragile. If you do need to move it the tower part comes off in two parts and then you can move it by grabbing the frame in the middle. A word of warning though. Having this monster out on display for all world to see and, god forbid, touch can be a little stressful. With so many small bits on it I find myself constantly checking for missing parts. Oh and man can it collect dust. It's totally a set worth getting. I've put it together a couple times now and it always fun(well except for putting on those bottom plates man thats hard to do). Oops I'm rambling now. Need more coffee images/icons/tongue.gif

I think when I first did it, I finished about 18-20 hours after I started, but I didn't build continously. I think my actual building time was about 13-14 hours.

This set is truly amazing. It is expensive, but definitely worth the money.

02-04-2003, 04:41 PM
LEGO says it's an exclusive, but they've changed their minds before. I don't anticipate on seeing it at retail unless you have access to a LEGO store like the one in the Mall of America or the one at Disneyworld.

Hi from the Apple store.

The Mall of America LEGO store has about 5 Imperial Star Destroyers on display right now. A couple on the Star Wars shelf, one on the checkout counter and a couple in the window. They look so awesome sitting on the shelf at retail. One of the employees is assembling an ISD right now but he's only about 5% done. They no longer have the Blockade Runner, AT-ST and TIE Fighter like they did at Christmas time. There sure are a lot of cool LEGO sets there to check out. They also have the Mini ships in stock.

Darth_Delirious

Retail (that is if you cold find it in a retail store) is $299.99. E-bay has them for about $300 with bidding ongoing. Just wondering...

Hi there.

The company I work for (SA ViewCom) is own by Kirkby who also owe Lego. This meens I can go to the employee shop and get myself one for employee price. It's cheaper, but still quite expensive.

And no I can't get you one, I'm not allowed to buy with profit in mind or buy for others.

Sincerely

btw: I just saw it in the lobby at the Lego-factory this past thursday, belive me. It's big, it's cool, it's awesome.

I agree with 0b-1. $300 US is a fair price( It was $480 CDN for me images/icons/rolleyes.gif ). It seems like a lot of money when all you have to look at is a picture but when you get that HUGE box in your hands, pull out all the pieces, have a look at the instruction book and start building that mutha it'll totally seem worth it. It's the #1 piece of my whole Star Wars collection images/icons/grin.gif

DarthMushy

Paid $300 buying it directly from Lego (shipping was cheap too... something like $8-$10).

What kills me are the people that pay over $300 on Ebay, not even counting the $20-$30 the the sellers are charging for shipping. Go figure.

$300 is a fair price for sure. I lucked out and:

A. Didn't have to buy it, I have a wonderful g/f.

B. She got it at a discount for buying earlier, so she got a better deal than some who might have waited too long.

Either way you cut it, I'd have paid the 300. It's a great compliment to any collection but finding a spot for it is somewhat difficult.

This was posted by Kris in another thread, but here you go: Mini RBR (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bluemoose/mini_rbr.htm)

I built this one and some of those parts are hard to get. Unless you have all the pieces or a majority of them I wouldn't recommend it. I priced it out and it's between 20 and 30 bucks to buy all the pieces (if you can find them) plus there's shipping and minimum buy amounts on BrickLink.

Good Luck!

I bought my UCS SD over a year ago and now finally have some space to build it and display it. I can't remember if it was a thread or a website where I read that the bottom of the SD is not stable or doesn't hold up well and someone made a list of a few extra pieces I could buy that would make it more stable/solid. I can't seem to find out where I read that. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

It isn't the most stable piece in the world, but the base was never my issue. Mine holds up fine as built.

From what I remember, it involved placing technic pins in the base stand, at the right place such that they would support the lower wings.

Wasn't there something about extra magnets too? I'd say that is my bigger problem is keeping those magnets from coming apart if I do have to move it. Luckily it is in a stable postition and won't have to be moved for some time.

From what I remember reading on some website a long time ago, it had to do with buying extra pieces to be added to the frame/infrastructure to make it more stable.

I'm still searching for that site, but no luck. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif
