View Full Version : Insane Cost!

So far the only Star Wars Lego's in my collection are an X-Wing, a Snowspeeder, and a Tie Fighter. I would really like to get more, but I think the prices are just insane. You could buy a boxed POTF2 vehicle that has been out of production for a few years for the same price or less than a brand new Lego set! I'd like to get the Imperial Shuttle, the AT-ST and the Darth Vader Tie and Y-Wing, but its just too much money for that. I would rather finish my POTF2 collection which has about 25 figs to go still...

The LEGO ships are wonderful, but it's true that they're a bit pricey. If your means only let you collect one line of ships, POTF2 is much more financially feasable, if only because of the recent sales.

On that note, since LEGO NEVER goes on sale in my area, does anyone have any idea of a place online I could score the the big LEGO X-Wing for less than $100? I've been waiting for it to drop at TRU, and it's clear now that it never will. I don't see it anywhere else anymore.

LEGO has always been pricey, but it is a quality toy. You're paying for the actual design and instructions as much as for the plastic.

LEGO sales DO happen, both online and at retail, but usually for only about 20% - 25% off unless clearanced. With that in mind, FBTB (http://collectibles.echostation.com/fbtb/) will post news of sales on the news page. Furthermore, FBTB's Internet Price Guide (http://collectibles.echostation.com/fbtb/intpriceguide.html) is updated every 2-3 days with current prices for all SW LEGO at 7 internet sites.

Ok, it's a shameless plug (the Guide is my baby), but I wouldn't have posted this if I didn't truly believe in its helpfulness. Sorry to say, PodRacer, but very few etailers carry the UCS X-Wing (or put it on sale); the lowest I've seen it lately is $137.05 at kidstoysplus (http://kidstoysplus.com), + shipping, and they're a Canadian-based site so I have no idea what they charge for shipping. If I should run across a GOOD sale for it, I'll email you http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks, LadySith!

LEGOs really DO rule. The X-Wing and the Interceptor are the only OT sets I'm missing, and it was purely a price consideration. I also think as time goes by, the LEGO sets will be much more sought after than the Hasbro toys since they're so unique, and less people seem to be collecting them. Time will tell, but every set I have is definitely worth the money.

I refuse to buy any lego system that is $100.00 on principle....so obviously, I have no Flacon, Pod Race, or the Ulitmate Collectors Wet Dream series...

The Mos Espa Pod Race set was on sale last year for quite a while at... uh... Target, I think. It was bundled with something else like Tatooine Showdown or something and came to around $50. I only wish Lego would do something like that with the Falcon, it's the only CT "system" set I don't have to date.

LadySith, that WAS a shameless plug. http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif j/k

Lego is very expensive.... But it's all worth getting. I have the Millinium Falcon and Xwing in the giant size.... Then I have every starwar s pieces. I have most of the EP 1 stuff but not really interested in getting it. I was in florida and they had the endor imperial station built, it was really cool... i will have to try to dig up pics of that.... but they need to start making more of the figures or vehicles or maybe some play sets....

Lego can be too expensive. Earlier this year Meijer used to do lego sales every month or so with them at 20% off. I bought the Y Wing and Vaders TIE, Slave 1, the Imperial Shuttle, and a few smaller ones. I would buy more but collecting the regular figures keeps me broke. Too bad they're not cheaper, I love legos

I picked up the Falcon at kbkids.com either late last year or early this year for $60 (?).

Target is great for clearance on select sets. But it's always a challenge to see how low the items will get marked; wait too long and they'll get snapped up before you return.

I got a Millenium Falcon for $20.00, and a Sith Speeder for $10.00, are those good prices to pay for these sets?

Imagine that a group of collectors who actually agree on something. I to agree that they are costly. Are they worth it. That is a subjective question that can only be answered by the individual. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that the retailers sell it for less than Lego themselves. How about a discount for registered Lego club members?

You got a Falcon for $20? Since it retails for $99, I'd say YES! http://www.collectstarwars.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif The Sith Speeder was and usually sells for $9.99.

I have a bad feeling about this...

I think he means Sith Interceptor. I agree LEGO is way overpriced. I pick their stuff up at big markdowns at least two of three times a year because the stuff just doesn't sell well at full price. It's not hard to me to find any of their stuff 50% to 90% off in a year or two after it's initally released. The stuff just moves like molasses at full price as well as it should. They are okay toys, but not near worth the overblown retail prices they hang on them, especilly the expensive $50 plus sets. I'd feel like a fool if I paid retail on those things.
