Being a graphic designer, I always wanted to put my personal touch to the vintage Kenner cards. I felt Gentle Giant's versions we're not without flaws, even if they matched the original pretty closely. I never understood why the color blocks behind the figures we're not always the same size (sometimes too high, too wide or not enough), rarely matching the plastic bubble's size. Also, the fact that the Kenner logo was never at the same spot, and that they simply took it out last year was really annoying to me.

So I managed to redesign the cards of the figures I had, gave them uniform color blocks, and took them a step further by changing some of the pictures for ones I liked better, even if that meant modifying the original concepts. I also wanted a unifying look to the pictures of the characters, showing them all from head to waist (instead of being all over the place with far out photos for some, and extreme close-ups for others.)

Tell me what you guys think!

Love that Boba Fett! Someone on Ebay has made a custom Prototype Boba Fett jumbo and card that looks fantastic. Any relation?

No, not at all... I just always hated the original card with Boba, cutout in space, firing that big flameball... I was tempted to go full out on building custom figures, like the Hoth Rebel Commander using the Hoth Rebel Soldier (but am still hoping they'll get to him eventually), a Hoth Han without his hood (using the Bespin head), or an helmetless X-Wing Luke, but the prices of the figures has kept me from going all the way.

I like that the C-3PO one uses a pretty popular image of Threepio (and R2) from the first movie. It seems like a picture that would have been Kenner's second choice for the card in 1977/78.

I love the Jedi Luke because it instantly reminds me of the cover of the ROTJ Storybook that I had when I was young.

They all look great!

These look great! Did you also print the back's designs?

No, just the front. I display them on a wall and rarely look at the back... To those interested, I can send a pdf file of my custom cards in high-res. I print them on a large size color printer in two parts (18" x 12"), join them together (a small seam is visible, you have to be precise in doing so), glue them on a thin cardboard, then cut them with round corners, and voilą!

They look great. Nice to see a different take on them.

Can I ask where you got the pic of Vader from? I'm not familiar with it. Is it actually from ANH, or Rogue One, or is it a fan costume?

If I remember correctly, it was the Sideshow lifesize figure.
