I gotta think on this one. It's not part of the vintage line, obviously, but the McQ drawing dates to vintage. We'll see.

As usual, to me, the edition size matters not.

I'm on the fence as well. If it was more true to the McQ, I would have jumped. I'm not sure if the Gentle Giant boxes in the bag are cute or silly.

I like everything about it... especially the GG boxes! This is not for everyone (I know) but this is a fun holiday gift that will be the 1st I've ordered.

Agreed. I don't like GG straying from the original purpose of this line and offering gimmicky non-vintage items like this.

I'm cool with GG branching out from the vintage Kenner line for THIS Holiday figure. BUT I HOPE that Gentle Giant does NOT continue to branch out and make other non-Kenner figures. The holiday exclusive is a bit of a tradition where we get something wild and crazy that otherwise would not be made.

Shabby_Blue
07-13-2013, 03:44 PM
I just don't want budget money being wasted on gimmicky stuff like this when it should be put towards legitimate vintage items instead. The line is still popular for now, but who knows how long it will last. In the long run, I'd hate to look back and see a few dumb gimmick items that were made instead of more vintage figures.

SITH_DARTH_RAGE
07-13-2013, 07:30 PM
I think you either love this or hate it. From most of the previous posts that supports my statement. I think this is awesome as the Christmas/ Holiday special. If this was just a gimmick to add figures to the line I might be disappointed but its just a holiday edition. I think it's great and welcome any and all special editions as long as it doesn't take away from other figures being made and this one doesn't seem to take a away but instead add to the line. :) Great addition :)

Wow, how many times does it need to be said. PERSONAL PREFERENCE PEOPLE! If you don't like something, don't buy it. Why all the knocking of people who do like it? Does anyone say to those that don't like this, that there's something wrong with them?

I actually have a "Star Wars" Christmas tree. I spray painted the tree black and have numerous silver and white ***** glued to each branch for stars to go along with all the white lights. I use that tree for all the Hallmark Star Wars ornaments but I love your idea for this as a tree topper :) I will display this loose all year round but will temporarily move it to the tree for December :)

Boba Fett comes in an easily resealable clam-shell. The backer card is fully printed on the front and back. Figure is fully articulated, and comes with micro blaster accessory weapon. He stands approximately 2" tall. (nice guess @Shabby_Blue) :)

Hello All, Any body going to collect him loose and want to get rid of their Clamshell? UPS was not my friend today and he showed up with a damaged calmshell. Everything else is great, card and figure...

I spoke with Chris already and this guy was sold out with no replacements and no clamshells... This could also come from a brown or orange snake yoda as the shells are the same...

I know this is not the FS thread so please forgive but figured it would get the most attention... I would be willing to pay $20/$25 shipped with INS. Please and thank you.... :)

Anybody else's Holiday Yoda missing its cane? Just got mine in the mail today and there's no cane inside the bubble. Not happy about this at all, and since GG refuses to simply ship me a replacement cane, I guess I'm out of luck. I'm not going to ship the entire item back just to get a cane, and risk them telling me they are out of stock and can't replace the Yoda. :(

I'm really getting sick and tired of their poor quality control issues with this line.

I used a hair dryer with some success - since the crease was on the edge of the clamshell - you have to go really slow and make sure that it does not over-heat because it will melt - but it may come out :)

It was kind of a last resort since there are no replacements - it seems!

I totally sympathise 100,000% percent with everything stated in this post, & yet it really seems like it's this exact & plentiful style of collector that keep GG so very sloppy & profoundly disinterested in their easily avoidable "problems" (well, let's face it, for problems read regular colossally huge unholy freak-ups.. with products they're charging far too much for anyway in the first place, even if their QC was stellar..)

And please let me also say that I really, really, really admire how genuinely keen you obviously are on this line, etc.. which only makes it so much sadder to me how badly you & everyone else who has ever thrown a fistful of dollars in their direction has been treated, & continue to be treated.

I know this has probably been asked already in this link but, if anyone is willing to assist me in getting the mini Fett that came with your Yoda, I would appreciate it. Even if you are not willing to part with yours, someone you may know, or possibly if someone from Gentle Giant checks the boards out, please, this is a very cool piece that I would like to add to my collection. Looks like I'm gonna cancel all future GG Jumbo figures. Customs here are holding my Yoda to ransom for an additional 18.00. GG have been politely asked if they could mark the value down for international customers, but they don't care, and refuse to do anything. So they've lost another direct international customer.

With this and the shoddy job they actually do on these figures, not to mention the bust fowl ups, it's a wonder they still have customers!

I'm pretty sure they would get in lots of trouble as a retailer if they "declare" in correct values. It's different when an ebay seller agrees to change the declared value because it's the secondary market and the item is "valued" at whatever the seller wants to "value" it at. Amazon, Hasbro, GG, etc, as retailers are required to declare the sales price.

It's illegal to do what you are asking, you can ask as politely as you want, but they are not going to break the law for you. It's not that they don't care, they can't legally do it. It's mail fraud to do what you are asking.

Below is violation for the 1st offense if caught, as a company they could also face commercial fines.

When a violation of Customs laws or laws enforced by Customs is discovered, in
addition to, or in lieu of, seizure and/or referral for criminal prosecution, Customs usually
has the option of assessing a personal penalty against the alleged violator(s). In some
cases, commercial violations are first reviewed by a multidiscipline Enforce Evaluation
Team (EET) to determine whether a penalty should be issued or whether another action
would be more appropriate under the circumstances. The EET may recommend
actions ranging from compliance improvement plans to referral for criminal prosecution.

I recently sold a Brown Snake Yoda and blue PGM Boba Fett to someone in the Netherlands, and he asked me to value it at $24. He agreed to pay me outside of ebay so I wouldn't have to pay seller fees if I agreed to his request.

You know, it's against ebay policy to do that, but screw them. They charge like 10% for final value fees, then you have to give a chunk to paypal on top of that. It's getting so you can barely make money on there anymore. I sold something for $600 recently, and after being violated by ebay and paypal I only made $100 profit. Did they really deserve $80 of my money when I did all the work? Sure they deserve something for providing the service, but dag gone.

If people in my area actually bought this sort of thing I'd do all my selling through craigslist and local classifieds. Craigslist is free. Local classified charges around 11 bucks average per week. Yet ebay charges 10% of your items value. Does it cost ebay more to maintain their servers if my item sells for $600 or $6? I don't think so. They're a bunch of crooks.

Sure they have buyer protection, but that only goes up to $250 I think. So how do they justify charging a percentage of the final value after that? The fees should cap at $25 since they won't cover anything past that mark. And then you can't even leave negative feedback for buyers, so they pay if or whenever they feel like it.

Sorry for the rant, but seeing so much money go to them is irritating.

That's possible since it's so unique, and it is Boba Fett.

I think the ebay price of the holiday Yoda will go down shortly like it did with BSY. That went from selling up to $500 a pop to people having a hard time unloading them at $100-$150. Been there. Twice, actually.

I never asked them, they just do it.
Last two items tough full amount was on it, and had to pay.

You can import items from outside of the EU for around 24 euro, any amount higher then that you might get charged with customs of 21% of value.
But postal delivery companys go out of their way to get over that, so they always also include the shipping, and an nice fee of about $20,- to charge you the customs fee.
They also like to pick the highest value on an package, so if its insured for 500,- it must be worth 500,- ( plus shipping ;) ).
Some postal delivery companys deliver the package and an week later you get an invoice over the customs, other hold the package until you have paid the amount upfront, but most common is that you have to pay the delivery guy at you frontdoor or you just will not get your stuff.

GG had always marked the value of these down for us in Europe/UK for a long time, but recently started putting the full price on some items. A few of us contacted them, and they marked the value lower again, which stuck for quite a while, but they have now started putting the higher value again.

With the charge in place, the cost of the item is ridiculous when compared with what we'd pay if we lived in the U.S. It's why many of us steered clear of ordering the Wampa, can you imagine the charge on that?

We also get a handling charge from the Post Office, which drives the price even higher. For what the product is, it's just not worth ordering direct from GG anymore.

Dutchskywalker is absolutely correct about how the highest possible amount is added too.

Well it depends on how you look at it, yes its a good thing for collectors who want one, but a bad thing for market value and people who thought their collectable was worth more now than what they paid for it.

GG will re release every in demand jumbo figure in the next few years, part of the reason they removed their addition sizes, everybody knew it would happen, so in effect it will push the already falling 2nd hand market value of all these figures even further down, a new wave of VC jawas will be coming out soon, you can bet your bottom dollar on that.

In 5 or 10 years time most of these figures will be worth 20-30 bucks.

In the past they justified their price stating these were collectibles produced in limited quantities and they would announce the number. With only 492 brown snake Yodas you knew there are more then 492 collectors who would want it. So when it was released you would buy it from GG for $80 knowing if you didn't it would be $500 down the road to acquire. Now with open ended "limited edition" you know they will just keep making them and they will never have any value. If you wait, you will be able to get them for less the original retail because of this. That means sales are going to slow to a crawl. For those of you that "don't see the problem" with this, what do you think is going to happen to this line when it's not selling? Yup, it's getting cancelled.

I've criticized Gentle Giant before and I'm criticizing them now but I guess I'm just not critical enough for you. I don't see this as a black and white issue because I can see pros and cons of making more of the Holiday Yoda. Making more of them lets people avoid the scalpers on eBay. Since they never specified an edition size for this figure, this is not a brown snake Yoda situation where they made more and lied about having not stated an edition size. However, I think it sucks that GG basically made it look like the Holiday Yoda was gone only to bring it back a few months later after some people might spent their money on the secondary market.

I'll even say that Sith_Darth_Rage makes a very good point that GG making more of this could easily damage the line by creating the impression that there's no need to buy them immediately because they'll just make some more.

DarthMickeyMoose

In my opinion, what this is all about is GG remaking an item they know is hot for one reason only. Its to get new members to sign up on GG for a Club membership. The only way to obtain this item! This is a sale strategy I can guarantee it. This is about GG also playing the Collectible BS game. Its not about helping poor collectors get a Yoda Santa. Those are the facts.

Seriously Kevin, you don't get it. If GG changed their stance on limited editions for figures after a certain point (2013 and future figures) that's one thing but that's not what happened. They used the numbers to sell figures themselves at self admitted inflated prices stating they were collectibles produced in self stated limited numbers. Then after they sold all of them they changed the number to limited edition. That IS false advertising! That was one major issue but GG has had numerous major issues before that and since. You may not change your mind and that's fine as you are entitled to your opinion but we too are entitled to ours. I've spoken to plenty of collectors that had no clue the shenanigans GG has pulled over the years and recently. After they read back on other threads they did change their minds and felt their money was better spent on reputable companies who didn't price gouge, lie or false advertise.

This is exactly how I've approached this line now. I stopped buying from GG. Why? Because I'm not going to pay $80 + shipping for one of these when I can get them from Amazon for $40-$60 with free shipping. I picked up Han Hoth, Dengar, IG-88, 4-LOM, Bossk and Zuckuss from Amazon. I think the most I paid for any one of them was $62.

THAT's what the problem is with them pulling this stuff. I'm not going to buy from them anymore. If they end up seeing the line as unpopular and decide to discontinue it... well, you reap what you sow. I'd be unhappy that they didn't get around to doing the entire line, but I'd have saved hundreds of dollars this way.

As I posted above, and as you yourself hinted with your use of the word "opinion," your claim about GG's motives here is neither "truth" nor "fact." It is conjecture.

Of course, you can post all you want as long as you are reasonably on topic. I'll continue to post what I like about Gentle Giant's handling of this line.

I'm going to assume that your "run and hide" comment was some sort of joke and not meant in any threatening way. You might take more care in choosing your phrasing in the future. Best of luck with your collection!

[QUOTE=DarthMickeyMoose;19368680]No one is bashing KEVIN! This is all the truth. And this isn't bringing up old GG Stories Kevin. Thats basically it. These "opinions" get turned into like "gospel". You would think we are discussing how to solve world hunger, helping people get jobs etc. But no, every where I go in this forum its fighting about silly stuff, making opinions into truth. I mean you have the U Grade, which the way people describe their stance as if they are ready to take arms up for lol.... then Gentle Giant and whatever they did, I mean it sounds like a grudge is being harbored... then you have people accusing others of being scalpers because they buy more than one of an item..... and then if anyone talks about AFA and getting your toys getting graded, all of a sudden it turns into investment accusation....

I mean really people, this is a hobby,,, plastic toys........ lmao

Oh, I get it. It just doesn't matter that much to me. I still like the figures and will keep buying them. As I've said multiple times, these aren't about value or collectibility to me. I just like having them. I understand that that's not everyone's opinion and I respect that. I just don't know why we have to keep rehashing it. If I were as bothered by the company as some seem to be, I would stop buying them and focus my energy more positively elsewhere.

Ditto... what Kevin said... move along. B)

You can't "move along" when GG pulls garbage like this every other month. We aren't complaining about some conjecture we are complaining of facts. As easy as it is for one person not to post something it's just as easy to overlook or ignore someone's post you don't agree with. There are plenty of blind loyalty posts I see in here but look past them. If you or anyone else don't like others posting facts like GG removed the production numbers or used a new sculpt for the Bossk or are overcharging etc etc etc then skip to the next post. These are just plastic toys you shouldn't get so upset when someone doesn't like the direction the company or hobby is going.

Facts are facts - nobody's disputing facts. I'm taking umbrage at DarthMikeyMoose calling his guesses at GG's motivations "fact" and "truth." That's conjecture, not fact.

Your suggestion that our appreciation for this line is "blind loyalty" is a bit underhanded. We obviously have different expectations for the company and the line. I respect your disappointments and wish you the best of success building your collection.

Facts:There is no explaining this GG situation to some. Blind Loyalty nails it.

Yeah, the mini-Fett clinched the deal for me on this one. Glad I got it - the Santa Yoda looks good on the shelf!

I didn't even know about the mini Fett when I ordered it. Like I said Christmas and Yoda was enough ;)

It's just annoying that every other thread seems to devolve into Gentle Giant bashing. Maybe we could start a separate thread for the "airing of grievances" - that would provide an opportunity for those who need to vent their frustrations away from the other discussion.

Maybe that could be the thread for the Festivus Yoda.
