Dunno about anyone else but I am pretty excited about these. I really hope they keep the line running and have a good choice of characters. Though their choice of the Well Walker Mini Bust as one of the first two is questionable. I think they did a pretty good job on Rick Grimes.

GG. . . The problem with this company is that, yes the proto looks pretty good, but when they ship the final product it does not look the same. Remember Slave Leia mini bust anyone?

I used to be a GG mini bust completionist. Their lack of qc and overall lack of concern for their customers has soured me completely from the market.

I have been on a Walking Dead adventure for three straight days down in Atlanta & Senoia....plus numerous other filming locations and on a serious high.

I was at filming one day and Andrew Lincoln was on set but didn't get to see him. So bummed..so close yet so far away.

But I have memories of this trip to last a life time. Just incredible.

Awesome! Any pictures to share? That had to be a very exciting trip. How did you get there? A tour package deal or did you just decide to go on your own and looked for the filming locations? Georgia is just next to my state. I might pack the bags, get my wife and son in the car and take a long drive up there.

Understandably so, Django. GG seems to be doing a great job with this line and these collectibles are building up momentum with the release of Season 3 on Blu-Ray next week and the awaited premier of Season 4 almost around the corner. Did you pre order any of the order busts? I got my pre order for Daryl Dixon directly from GG. The string of Walker ears they offer as a bonus when getting the bust from them sounded like a nice little accessory. I bought into it. :)

Here is a good link to help you find the locations. I've been to Senoia(Woodbury) a couple of times and its a nice little town and a lot of the other locations are around Senoia. Living in Atlanta I probably should go more often.

Hey LightSword, I was not even aware Season 3 came out next week on Blu Ray! Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to order it. Not my personal favorite season per say, and some of it was weaker than the first two seasons. But my wife loved it so we'll buy it nonetheless.

As for Officer Grimes, this is why I am so excited:
http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/t541/Shipp_96/Comic%20book%20collection/IMG_0333_zps319eb6d0.jpg
Got this rare comic for free when I attended the con, and got super nice cover artist Michael Golden to sign it while there ;). I think the Rick bust is nearly a dead on pose of this cover!! I got it from GG directly so I'll have the one with the hat too.

If GG keeps the line going, I would love to add a Shane, my personal favorite from the show. Or possibly a Meryl, T-Dog later on. The Governor looks great but I don't know if I'll add him for sure. Daryl to me sadly does not look as good as the other humans, so as much as I love his character (and after meeting Norman Reddus I really wanted to get this) for now it's a pass.

No desire to get any of the zombies, but that's me :whistling:.

Thanks so much for the link, Stealth_Cyclon. I think we'll make it a trip during the Christmas school recess in December. Love the feel of little towns and meeting the locals, so I'm sure besides the excitement of seeing the locations, just the trip itself will be an enjoyable one.

You are welcome, Django. I pre ordered mine through FYE. If there's a store near you you might want to get it there. The price is just the same as Amazon, and I get to walk in their store and pick it up this coming Tuesday. I'll use the fish tank with severed heads as part of my TWD display on the works. By the way, congratulations on the comic, Wow! That would look great display next to the bust given the pose similarities. Also, having Michael Golden's signature on the comic makes it a much sweeter collectible.

I agree with you the likeness on the Daryl bust doesn't seem to be all there however, being the Dixon bros. among my favorite characters, and wanting to collect all the survivors, I really want him in my collection. Shane, Meryl, T-Dog, The Governor, etc, etc, etc ...Heck!, I'm very much looking forward to all of them to be released. Zombies, I do want some of them. I want Rick to be pointing his gun at some of them :)

As for the sheriff bust, although I usually don't buy directly from GG because of their high prices, being able to pick up Rick Grimes with his accessorized signature hat through them, made it a no brainer for me to order directly.

My issue is I live in the mountains, literally. I am an hour from civilization, and I hate it. It's part of the reason I can't wait to start my new gig and relocate already. So for me ordering the Blu rays are the quickest way to get it sadly.

I appreciate your compliments on the comic, thank you! I have to admit it's grown on me even more as I continue to add these WD busts around it. If Daryl drops in price (unlikely I know) I may add him for the reasons you stated. But right now can't pay full price on such a poor likeness personally.

I got pretty lucky as I was able to use my $30 off PGM coupon on Sheriff Grimes directly from GG, so I only paid $57 shipped. That made it totally worth it for me, and when you add in his iconic hat it was an easy decision. I did go ahead and add the Governor though last night thru GG, since I like the interchangeable heads they only offer.

You are welcome. Your signed comic is indeed a very nice collectible. The Daryl bust, I'm sure you'd be able to get it at a later time for less. I usually wait for store sales or look for places like Redfordfilms offering free shipping, when an item I'm getting isn't much up to my expectations and I don't want to pay full price.

Glad to see you were able to order your bust at a much lower than its retail price. I too was able to save on my purchase by using most of my Reward Points, and saved a bundle. I agree with you about The Governor bust. The fact he is offered with interchangeable heads, and a removable eye patch when ordering directly from them, is a plus in my opinion.

Django, all you need to do is go to your account. Towards the bottom of the page look and click on the link showing "My Rewards", when prompted to the "'My Rewards" page you'll see the amount of Reward points you have accumulated. Enter in the box below the amount of points you want to redeem, click on the "Redeem Now" button and just go ahead and place your order or pre order. Once you have placed your order or pre-order, your final balance will automatically reflect the discount received for redeeming your points. Keep in mind 20 points equal one dollar. Good luck!

I just had to write GG customer service about my reward points as I noticed I was not accumulating any from orders I had received. Chris fixed it and now I have quite a few to be redeemed.

Hey Django, a follow up on the release of Season 3 on Bluray and the display set we were taking about....

I picked up my pre-order yesterday for the Limited Edition 5 Blu-ray set of "The Walking Dead" I had placed through FYE. I like the way the zombie tank looks. The severed heads show good detail and their backs sport protruding springs with clips that attach to an indented lip on the back wall of the tanks. When filled with water the heads always face the front and the springs allow for a good floating effect. The light effect also works well. The dimmed, blueish lights give the heads an eerie, almost look real appearence. The switch for the lights is thoughtfully disguised in front of the tank as the number 3 located in the "Season 3" script above the show's title. I'm currently displaying the Michonne bust I received from GG next to the tank and it works well with the scale. Here are some pictures ...

So, you used water? I want to but was nervous it would affect the paint apps on the severed heads.

Sidenote - folks are receiving the Rick bust. Sadly, the quality appears to be much less than the incredible Michonne bust.

The switch for the lights is thoughtfully disguised in front of the tank as the number 3 located in the "Season 3" script above the show's title. I'm currently displaying the Michonne bust I received from GG next to the tank and it works well with the scale. Here are some pictures ...

Dang Lightsword, you're graphic design skills as always are impressive!! I love the bloody hand by your sig and the reveal/putting it together shots. I was under the impression they were already filled (the tanks) with a solid opaque material. To hear it's actually good ol' fashion water and that they actually look like they are bobbing around is cool and just VERY creepy :). With that bluish light it is very eerie indeed. I do love that Michonne is also to scale, very cool.

A bit too gory for me, and since the wife has taken over TWD display LOL no way she'd want this. But it is nicely done, thanks for sharing! My Rick GG bust arrives tomorrow. Curious to see what that looks like in person. I guess his Sheriff hat will help whatever imperfections there are in the sculpt.

- Thanks, Django! Coming from a fellow artist like you, I'm honored by your comments.
- Old fashion water, indeed. I thought they would recommend some type pf additive, but nothing like that.
- My wife likes Season 3 as per the disc set. The tanks and heads is a different story. They are " too freaky", so she says. :)
- My Rick bust also comes tomorrow. I can't wait to have him displayed. Apparently he isn't as good a sculpt as Michonne is. Like you said, the hat will, somewhat, disguise the lack of likeness. I'm glad though, the line is being produced.

Beek, they don't specify in the instructions what water to use however, I used distilled water just to see if it helps preserve the paint longer. I wouldn't use tap water knowing all the chemicals they put in it.The heads are hard plastic and appear a lot darker in color before placed in water. Once in it, the color seems to brighten a bit and, the different shades of the "flesh"seem more noticeable. I'm also a little concern about how long the heads and clarity of the plastic drawers will remain unaffected by the water. I guess only time will tell. By the way, I saw your pictures from "Woodbury" in the TWD thread in Wuher's Cantina: great shots!

No problem LightSword! I meant it, your graphics are outstanding on these :). When I shared with the wife Season 3 is now available she simply said "buy it" and hung up LOL. The heads in the case as I stated earlier is a different story.

I'm hoping for the best with Rick...seriously, GG had delayed this so long there is simply NO EXCUSE for it not matching the quality of Michonne. Then again, this is GG we're talking about...sigh.

And where in the hell is the Well Walker??? They were promoting him in the friggin' SEASON TWO BLU RAY set. Ridiculous.

Not really. I'm creating an autograph project. So far I have 24 white metal name plates printed. They will be mounted on plaques. I may print out the character photos on metal in color to go with the autograph plates. I will be really absorbed in the walking dead over the next few weeks. I'm working on the season 3 sketch card set. I also have a michonne piece I plan to paint soon. And later this year if all goes well I will be a featured zombie in a new film be shot in Georgia. Zombies will be in all aspects of my life lol.

p.s. Brandon, did you ever see this pic of me during a zombie photoshoot. I have several hundred pics but this is my favorite

No problem Brandon. Yeah even the pics that I took don't do it justice. It's one of those busts that just looks weird every time you snap a pic. it doesn't want to cooperate. I do think they could have went a little lighter on the stubble. But I know that I will be displaying mine with his hat resting on the base. for some reason in person, it helps the likeness. not sure why. and yes, his skin could have been a shade lighter but overall I give him a 7 or 8 out of 10 while michonne was a 9/10...only because I would have loved some blood on her katana LOL. :)

oh and glad you liked the zombie pic of me. hehe. It was FUN!!!! hope you see me on the big screen after I "should" get to film that movie. :)

I have to admit I was psyched to get him with the hat as that matches my signed comic cover, but I do think he looks better without out it also.

On the box he looks more like he's been put thru the ringer in the eyes and the beard, and on the actual bust it's not as vibrant or the colors don't bring it out as much. Again I'm happy with him, but it just could've been slightly better. My wife when she saw it (though she walked around my room shooting the other GG busts with him in hand LOL ) even said it didn't really look like him, but she knew who he was. The Michonne bust for example floored her. But I think it's a great addition!

I'd have to check when I get home, I believe it was #185 but I could be wrong.

It looks better in the photos from the angles and light I used. In person, from certain angles it looks lifeless and not like Rick. I know that's a silly thing to say about an inanimate object but Michonne again looks real from any angle and very lifelike. I can't reiterate enough I'm happy with it, but once you open it you'll see what I mean about it could of been better.

************************************************** **************

On Friday I received the Rick Grimes bust I had pre-ordered from Gentle Giant. Personally, I have to say this is of lesser quality than the SDCC Michonne bust. When Rick's face is hit by a light , it is hard to tell is him from certain angles. I like the fact they narrowed his face a bit when compared to the one seen on the box, but on the other hand the cheek bones and lines around his mouth seem to accented. I believe a better shading of his face rather than using an even skin tone all around would have helped. Speaking of skin tone, Ricks arms are a bit on the red side, as if he had been sun tanning for eight hours straight, but maybe this just an issue with the one I received. The pose and rest of the sculpt I do like. The hat although not magnetized, fits perfect on his head and stays there once properly placed. While the likeness isn't awfully off and won't detract much from the overall look of the bust, I do feel there was room for better likeness.

I'm pleased to see the bust was made and added to my collection. I'll be pleased to see more exciting characters from the show filling the shelves as more busts go into production. However, being pleased with this release doesn't necessarily mean to me, being happy with the final look of the product. It'd be a gratifying experience to find future releases having the same attention to details and resemblance to the character the Michonne bust was given. I'm looking forward to the next non-zombie bust, but after seeing the aforementioned issues with Rick, I'm feeling a bit concerned about the future. Time will tell, I guess.

You are welcome, Django. I call things the way I see them, and I do like the contrast between the cover design of the comic as a background piece and the bust in front. I completely agree with you on your observations. The likeness isn't horribly off but, there is room for improvement and the face and arms show very little muscle tone, which could had been accomplished with proper shading. Another thing, his outfit is quite clean considering the environment he's surrounded by. A little bit of "dirt" could have improved the final painting further. I see the quality issues more as not using adequate paint application rather than the sculpt itself being off. Thanks again for your kind words, my friend.

Looking forward to it!

And I'm gonna keep my mouth shut up north in the GG section. Some of these people crack me up on RS - if it is not Star Wars they reject it. Open yourself up to new things peeps. Walking Dead is bringing me much more enjoyment than SW nowadays.

Thoroughly burnt out on Star Wars. Period.

October 13th folks -Season 4!!!!

Ohh...those folks saying TWD "doesn't have legs" are completely clueless. 10 year comic anniversary, record breaking viewers on the show, season over season getting better and better, spin off show announced, rumored movie, All Out War beginning next month, etc. List goes on and on.

I've just received the Well Walker bust from Gentle Giant. It's nice to be able to add the first rotten body to the collection, helping give the display the "disgusting" look it should have. I'm very much looking forward to their next release however, there are a couple of issues I noticed with the Well Walker bust...

- For starters, the Walker on the show, and the prototype bust, both had gray hair. I don't know when or why they decided to paint the hair brown on the final product, but it takes away from having a more authentic look.

- Issue number two would be again, the paint. This one however is worse than the change of hair color in terms of application. I don't know if this is just an issue with the sample I received but, the paint details on the Walker's head are horribly applied. The shading of the skin, specially where it sags or folds, was extremely over done by using such dark tones that, the Walker looks more like a clown than the actual decomposing corpse he is meant to be. At first glance, it seems as if someone used a Sharpie pen and went over his face drawing all these very dark lines to the point where, from certain angles, the Walker appears to be wearing a mask. This abuse of dark paint over skin tone was also recently found on some samples of their Ree-Yees bust and the way the "veins" on his head were created. Whatever factory in China is responsible for the painting of these pieces, apparently is doing a fantastic job at being sloppy.

Here are some pictures I worked with, taking the liberty to give it my own interpretation based on the scene from the show ...

The Michonne statue is nice and all but, she is way too expensive for a single sculpt, despite the size and all the bells and whistles. There's no way I'm paying $359.00 plus shipping for this statue. This isn't a Mythos. Of course, that is just me ... what do I know? :)

* On a side note, I'm very much looking forward to the exciting Season 4 premier tomorrow night. Yeah!

I gotta agree with you on the price that its too much. The mini busts are perfect for me since they take up hardly any room and most of my collection space is devoted to SW. If I am going to buy a large statue it will have to be SW related.

Ah yes, it's back this Sunday, I thought season 3 was the best so far, so this season has a lot to live up to but I'm sure it will as long as they don't kill of Maggie or Daryl. :D

I know this is McFarlene not GG but I thought I'd stick this here.

As far as action goes, I'll give it a ten. Having said that, if that is Michonne, I honestly think the likeness is off. Is this plastic or Polystone? If plastic, I know from experience how fragile McFarlane collectibles are and how easily the plastic bends after a few years of being displayed. Most of the musicians in my Motley Crue and Metallica sets with stage are bending forward due to the poor plastic used.

Exactly my analogy on this. I would drop that much on a Star Wars collectible such as a beast or diorama, not on TWD unless, the sculpt offers way more than just a stand alone character. As much as I like the TWD series and as much as I like Star Wars, shelling out almost $400.00 these days for a statue would really have to impress me. Michonne looks great, don't get me wrong , but not worth that price as far as I'm concerned.

That Michonne statue is based off the comic more then the show. I've seen it in behind a display case and it is rather large and is made of resin. Its pricey tho and sells for 2-300 ish.

It is made from resin I believe, but I agree that while the statue has a great dynamic look to it akin to the Revenge of the Jedi diorama from Sideshow, the sculpt likeness of Michonne is very poor.

I saw the first episode of TWD season 4 tonight, and although it was a little bit slow based on my own expectations , it indeed set up everything nicely for what's to come. As for the McFarlane statue, yeah it has a certain look to it I personally don't really like. I do hope however, that GG decides to put out a dynamic Statue/diorama involving some sort of fight between two or more characters and Walkers. That could indeed serve as the "crown" atop my TWD display. I'm not collecting every single piece other than the busts, so I'm being selective on what statue to get. I'm only committing myself to one Detolf unit, placed in the hallway leading to my office/Star Wars room. In a way this Detolf is out of the "collection boundaries" set by my dear wife so, I consider myself lucky since she loves the show too :)

* By the way, we are heading next month to the Walker Stalker convention in Atlanta, Georgia. I need some signatures for my posters and most of the actors will be there all three days!

I agree on the season 4 Premiere, it as certainly more about setting the pieces in place for the season than delivering anything particularly exiting, although the action sequence inside the convenience store was pretty cool. :) Ahh it's always good to have the ultimate blessing lol and good luck keeping to the one Detolf, I mean collecting spaces always start with such good intentions. :D

Any suggestions you could offer are more than welcome. Feel free to send a PM with details if you'd like. It will be a long drive for us. We love the open road so driving is how will get there. Agree. That sequence in the supermarket with all those raining Walkers is destined to be a classic, just like sequences on The Twilight Zone or The X files, to name just a couple of shows that have truly delivered visually to the viewer. Also, the slower pace of this first episode comes to show that, to bring interest and entertainment to the screen, not everything needs to move so fast. When, as you said, the pieces of a plot are properly set in place, the story telling will always impact the viewer. About that Detolf and, after 22 years of marriage and many battles fought and conquered ... it is good to have that ultimate blessing ( got to find a way to hide this post) :) Seriously, I'm truly glad to be able to share this passion with my wife! ... Oh, yes. Maggie's signature is a plus ... and a picture too! :)

As for the line and upcoming busts, I'm so excited about the show and the fact GG is producing its characters that, any bust is a welcomed piece in my collection. What will be next... Sophia's Walker? Bring it on! :)

I think when you look at a lot of the best action sequence they often come with a good build and are paced well within the movie/show they are in, in order to create that investment from the viewer. TWD does this very effectively IMO. Haha! better find a cloaking option for that post my friend. :D You're spoken for buddy but ask Maggie (Lauren) to blow a kiss into the camera for your overseas collecting friend. :D

I Googled that and saw it was the next one, not one I'd buy but it looks a good sculpt. :)

It's possible. But for God's sake, give him an ax, a screwdriver, a sling shot ... I don't know. The kid has been killing Walkers for a while now. Hopefully the hat will be removable, so that we can have a choice of poses. I like the bust.

After seeing the video and pictures of the prototype shown at SDCC last year for the Well Walker bust, and not being happy with the paint job the final product was given, I decided to update my sample by giving it the look the prototype had.

Face, neck and chest covered in blood, lighter hair color, subtle lines recreating the blotted effect around the eyes chin and neck where all part of what, to me, were details on the prototype that captured a more realistic look. The sample I received, and all others according to Vinyl Squirrel in the Q & A section, was way over painted. Thick, dark lines were applied around the eyes and chin, and ,,, no blood. Since TWD is a show where blood and guts take a prime, I never understood why the Well Walker was produced so clean, especially after seeing what happened to the character in the scene he was in. I like what I did with mine, and now I feel a lot better having this character in my collection. I only hope future Walkers do not get toned down as much as the Well Walker did. Here are some pictures ..

Thanks. I appreciate the kind comment. I was hesitant to do the repaint on mine also but, the fact of not liking the paint job they did was bigger than my hesitation to mess things up. Thanks, Beek. I tried to exchange my bust for one with less of a dark purple color, but VS said they were all made that way so I stopped trying and fixed it myself. The pallets I "reworked" them by banging the heck out of them with a hammer and other tools, then I weathered them with a mixture of three paints and a dry brush to give them that used up look. You can find them at Michael's in the area where they keep all their wood pieces. They are actually super clean mini baskets with a little handle on the top that can be easily cut off.

You are welcome. I get what you are saying. My idea is to display little items in an "apocalyptic way" sort of speak. So little dirty pallets, old stained pieces of rope, rusted barb wires, a splash of "blood" here and there, etc. They all help enhance the look of the display and makes it all more personal to our own style. Yeah, I heard of Hobby Lobby, unfortunately down here in Miami there aren't any thus Michael's becomes my only store choice. I didn't buy that statement by VS either. It sounded like a polite way to say " We don't feel like helping you, complainer"

Now that I mentioned the Walker Stalker Convention in Atlanta, Georgia I have to say: anyone willing to take the trip, go there next year. The downtown area where I stayed ( CNN building) has great hotels and they are all within walking distance to the Convention Center at Americasmart. Great location, friendly people, good atmosphere and most important, getting to meet the actors was a huge rush. Scott Wilson "Hershel" is an amazing person. A people person, Scott was kind and friendly and welcomed everyone at his table with a big hug. Steven Yeun "Glenn" was also very outgoing and talkative. Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln the same, although Norman was overwhelmed by the amount of people getting his signature. He's become the Boba Fett of The Walking Dead. The ladies of the show were also great to talk to, and posed for pictures always. I'm sorry Jang0. I know you wanted that picture of Lauren Cohan "Maggie" blowing a kiss at the camera for you :) and, I had in fact bought the ticket for her to sign my posters. Unfortunately she canceled her appearance 4 hours prior to the time the convention started due to filming issues... next year! :)

I just wanted to share with you guys the two posters , soon to be framed, the actors signed for me ...

Let's think positive and hope he will be there. He was so nice. He talked to us for a while and even signed my wife's shirt and both of my posters twice without charging any extra, just the $40.00 for the ticket. By the way, all the money he earned from the signing he donated it to charity. Here is when he signed my wife's shirt. You should try going to Atlanta next year during Walker Stalker Con. Make it a vacation, if you can set the time aside!

Good to hear you'll soon have Michonne in your collection as trade for your Mara Jade bust. The way I see it, collecting should bring excitement and happiness. If Mara Jade no longer serves your purpose, and Michonne does, by all means go ahead and don't look back: trade her. I love collecting SW statues and busts, but if at some point I feel happier collecting something else, I would gladly switch collecting themes or get rid of what no longer has an effect on me. It's good to know to let go when things need a change.

As for next year, if you can't make it to Atlanta, let me know ahead of time what you need signed and my wife and I will be happy to help. And as far as stealing my display idea, go ahead. If there's one thing I like about the hobby is how much we all get to borrow from each other to come up with our own "little worlds". You, Beek and anyone else posting here and collecting this line should post pictures of their displays. I'm glad we can all share the hobby.

Here is how I have Rick displayed right now. I used barb wire I made and weathered to be reminiscent of the prison. Once I put together the Detolf I just bought and once more pieces get released, the display will obviously change ...

That looks great, LightSword. I was in Orlando last summer for Star Wars weekends...and found out Norman Reedus was at one of the Spooky Empire(may have the con name wrong) the same w/e. The bummer was he cancelled appearance.

Thank you, jedisquared. It is unfortunate indeed when actors have to cut their time short but, most of them are under severe filming schedules and cancellations are bound to take place. Guests like Emma Bell ( Andrea's younger sister) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie), unfortunately had to cancel their appearances at WSC. Norman Reedus was forced to cut in half his Sunday appearance and, Andrew Lincoln was only able to appear for one day. I should say though, that Lincoln and Reedus stayed long after they were supposed to on Saturday evening, until all fans in their queue had received and autograph. They were class acts!

That's a great deal! I wish this had been going on when I got the Well Walker bust. I've been eyeballing the bookends but, I'm not wanting to pay their regular price and rather use the money on another bust. By any chance, Do you have the bookends? If so, Could you post a picture next to a bust to better figure out their size? Thanks!

I just ordered the deal on Thursday so probably will not ship till Monday or Tuesday which means Friday or the following Monday before delivery. I'll post the moment I get them. GGltd states them to be 6.75 inches so it should be right around bust height maybe a little taller.

This will be my second well walker and will be getting my friend to turn it black and white. I just cant wait on GG to get them done. He will also fix the regular well walker similar to how you fixed the face on yours.

Michonne arrived today! After looking at her, trading Mara Jade wasn't a bad deal. Who knows I may hunt down a Mara Jade again at some point. I think Michonne is one of the best busts GG has done. She is currently in my top 5...hell she may have a place at number 1 or 2 before all is said and done. Now to hunt down Rick. Question is do I go after the PGM Rick or regular release? Once Carl comes out I don't think I would have Rick displayed with his hat.

Also, who thinks that these busts would look a lot better with some "blood splatter"?

In all my honest opinion, Rick sports a better likeness without the hat on. The hat sort of hides Rick's face by creating more of a focus on it than the actual likeness the sculpt has. If you are planning on getting Carl, now that we know he will have a permanently attached hat, and you do not want to display Rick with his on, you could actually save some cash by getting just the regular version, and you'll still have a good looking bust in your collection.

As for blood splatter, I've been an advocate for that since day one. I feel Michonne should had come with blood splattered on the blade of her katana, the Well Walker with blood on his face and chest ( as I added to mine) and Rick looks too clean in my opinion. A bit of dirt or blood on his shirt could had made the look of this piece more up to what's expected when recreating the style of the show. As I mentioned in the Q & A section a few days ago, I'm only hoping the Sophia Walker Stalker bust comes with as much blood as seen in the prototype pictures. When it comes to this show in particular, blood splatter and weapons ( sometimes even guts) should be the norm with many of the sculpts. McFarlane has been very graphic about it, why not GG?

Really don't understand the reason for shying away from the blood. From what I understood its not GG but AMC. Makes me wonder if the person doing the approvals for the McFarlane stuff may not be the same that gives the ok for higher end stuff.

That is exactly what I questioned VS about in the Q & A yesterday. I can understand that sometimes, due to precautious reasons not to influence on the mind of unprepared kids, releasing the sculpt of a young boy with a weapon or too much blood on him could send the wrong message. But, most kids these days have seen blood and guts through their video games, more often than what they've seen on this show. That is if at all, they are watching it. Gentle Giant pieces are considered to be high end collectibles, not sold at toy stores and costing a pretty penny, so as far as accessability to kids is concerned, they do not have much of a reach to their product.

Secondly, if a licensor gives a company the go ahead to produce busts and statues from their own show, which borderlines on the gory side I should add, with lots of blood and weapons, the regular collector comes to expect that in the product that's produced. A lot of things are said these days that are not necessarily accurate, thus I'm not sure if I can rely 100% on what one party or another would say. It does seem awkward to me that McFarlane gets to release their sculpts with all the blood and weapons seen in the show while GG releases the kindergarten version of it, so to speak. Don't get me wrong, I definitely love the product GG is putting out for TWD. It is just that by limiting or making politically correct versions of their product, lacking blood splatter or as in Carl's case a weapon, it sort of drives away the more intense, scary aspect of the show which in a way, has attracted many of the viewers. It's like baking a cake and forgetting to add on the frosting :)

A big YES to blood splatter on a bust. My friend that's doing the B&W Rick for me plans to add blood splatter. He's been pretty busy but I hope to have it withing the next 2 weeks. Julian, he did state to me a good way to get gun shot splatter is to use a tooth brush.

If you are going to go with the regular Rick Bust AP Collectibles has him for 44.99.

Indeed. As I've read here and other forums, it seems most collectors are for blood splatter on these busts. It only makes sense, so hopefully someone somewhere with the authority to make this happen is taking note.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the final result of your B & W versions of the Well Walker and Rick busts. Now that you've mentioned your friend will be adding blood splatter to Rick, that blood should contrast nicely against the black and white colors. Please, post pictures when you have them ready. Also, thank you for the tip on using a tooth brush to get gun shot splatter. I'm assuming you have to slightly dip the bristles of the brush in the paint you're using then flick some of them towards the area to be painted as to create the splatter effect, correct?

I double checked with him and he said to pull back on the bristles with your finger but to also do it towards some paper to get the feel of it before actually doing to the bust.

I'll be getting the Well Walker and bookends tomorrow. He will also be touching up my regular version like your but I wanted to ask permission to send him your pics of the before and after of your so he gets what I'm talking about.

That's a good idea you've suggested to Beek. However, I'm thinking that if you display the bookends with the letters facing in, only the palms will show and there's a lot more detail on the reverse/top of the hands. Since I'll probably display mine (once I get them) as two separate pieces, I'll have one of the sides showing as you suggested.

Daryl is scheduled to come out next month, and I'm hopeful that would be the case. To be honest, I'm not too happy with the likeness I've seen in the prototype pictures, though. Not sure whether it has to do with the length of his hair or face expression, but his likeness seems a bit off. He also appears to have been painted too squeaky clean, as far as dirt and blood stain details. Hopefully he will look a lot better once we get him.

Yeah..Daryl is a bit "off". Damn shame, especially after showing us what they can do (Michonne).

Hopefully, and this is really deeply wishing, the Daryl bust will look much better than in the pictures. Michonne was a superb likeness, indeed. I read in another forum someone assuring its all about skin color. While I would venture to say that, up to some point, the lack of likeness deals sometimes on how a bust gets painted, and skin shading and muscle tone are harder to accomplish on a light skin sculpt than on one with dark skin, that's not always the case. For instance, being part of Gentle Giant's bust lines, Michonne and Mace Windu were perfect as far as likeness yet Lando was a bit off, not just on the painting but the sculpting too. I think it is a combination of sculpting, painting and molding what can give us a bust with good or bad likeness. That is why QC is so important.

Apparently, and according to what she hinted out, there will be some sort of same gender relationship between her and Alanna Masterson (Tara Chambler, the sister of Lilly Chambler AKA the governor's new "main squeeze"). Just wanted to point out there'll be a little extra as far as relationships go. :)

For some reason, after seeing your picture, I reminded myself I had forgotten to pre-order the bust of the Governor from Gentle Giant. I guess I'm out of luck as all pre-orders are now sold out. Really need a TWD GG fix before Xmas, but sadly I don't see that going down. :(

Yeah. It doesn't look like Daryl ( Was Daryl next?) will be here for Christmas but, to be honest, I really didn't have much hope for a new TWD bust to be under my tree. History speaks louder than words sometimes, and we hardly get anything released as planned. I'm not really in a rush to pre-order Carl. The only accessory packed with him is the Sheriff badge for his hat, and I do not find it to be that attractive of an extra. Now if there would have been a second hand with a weapon of some sort, as he had been originally produced according to VS comments in the Q & A section .. oh well. I'll buy him down the road nonetheless.

From now until another bust comes out, and to get my TWD fix, I think I'll be getting that 10" figure of Daryl with crossbow by McFarlane. It should be coming out this month but, we'll see. I kind of want to combine some figures with the busts in my display, depending on how good those figures look. I don't like articulation points showing, and going by the pictures I've seen, this Daryl figure sports more of a fixed pose.

Who knows? Maybe we are wrong, and GG will treat us to some TWD before Christmas... Chris, are you reading this? :)

That is great news. Hopefully that will be the case. You know their notion of time could be a "little"off every now and then :)

Since I do not collect any of the comic book figures, my display is practically empty. These busts will help improve its look. Also the Luke Snowpeeder pilot bust will be released next month, so that'll be three busts for me to start the year with. I noticed in their release schedule Sheriff Grimes badge is set to come out during the first quarter of next year, no specific month. I'll be getting the badge just to open the case and take it to the Walker Stalker Con. I'll try to have it signed by Andrew Lincoln in person. I don't like the fact his signature is just a copy on an original. Kind of a cheap move to me.

Get FeezleNutz to create another plaque that Lincoln can sign. He should be able to create a close copy of the one include with the badge. He does great work. I had him create some for my custom mini helmets.

That's a great idea! Thanks for reminding me. Rich is a really cool guy, and very professional with his work. He made me a plaque not too long ago for one of my fan made replicas and his work was top notch. I'll contact him and send him detailed pictures as soon as I get the item. Just like Beek was saying, it was indeed the cheapest move to offer a copy of Andrew's signature instead of an original. From time to time GG could do some things that leave you scratching your head. I think the plaque is beautifully encased, but the lack of an original signature gives the whole thing a K-mart feel. Thanks again for the suggestion, disgruntledjawa :)

Even tho I do not read the comics I would be ok with them. Probably would be best in the maquette form to me but only after we get a few more core characters in bust form.

I'll be honest. I'm not much into the comic book reading, and most of what I know from the comics comes from a local friend that's been reading The Walking Dead since day one, and he has told me what is going on. Having said that, and although the storyline varies greatly between the TV show and the comic books, I think the whole concept and narrative for both are great. I would not mind GG producing some of the characters from the comic books as animated maquette pieces. I think I would even buy a couple to display alongside their corresponding comic book cover. Take for instance Negan from issue 100 and his "little" friend Lucille :)

That's my biggest concern about the upcoming busts and statues: B. L. O. O .D

Maybe GG has taken the complains of so many of us under account as far as applying blood splatter and dirt on the characters being released. Honestly, I still can't get over the Carl bust with no weapon nor dirt and no blood on the Well Walker. I guess we'll be able to see by next month ( if in fact releases are true to the updated schedule) if we are going to keep getting squeaky clean renditions of the characters or not. Sophia's walker stalker will be indicative of that fact.

I agree with Beek. I've seen the bank bust first hand at FYE and personally, I see the sculpt being a little rough. In other words, it looks too cheap of a sculpt to me. That's just my opinion. There are two things I don't like about the bank. This is based on the one sample I saw at FYE:

1-It might just be me being so used to statues and busts made out of Polystone but, to me is how the product feels in your hand, as having no weight and very plastic in appearance.

2- Paint bleeding around the areas where the forearms touch the sleeves of his jacket and the skin color had goneover that area. Over-spraying in some areas also hides some of the finer, sculpted details such as the hair strands.

Having said that, what might seem not a good item to me, could very well be something you really like. It's happened to me before when I've bought something that people considered to be not such a good product, but I've liked it. I'd say, if I were a collector of the Comic style merchandise out there, and this was my chance to get a good size bust of Rick, I would buy it. The pose I think is fine. If GG decides to make a bust down the line, the low price of $20.00 you could spend on this one now, won't make you feel like you wasted your money then.

Got this on Christmas day as part of a few collectibles my wife gave me. I've been busy, and I just got some time off to show the Daryl Dixon 10" figure by McFarlane. I think the likeness is fantastic considering such small area to work on. When comparing likeness beteween him and the upcoming Daryl bust, it is like comparing apples and oranges. What's funny about the scanning is that GG has built a reputation scanning actors in Hollywood for movie purposes, so I can't figure out why the Daryl bust (and others) is looking like the Filipino boxer Stealth_Cyclon pointed out, when in fact they even have more of an area to work their tooling magic on.

Followers of this thread know that I have a friend customizing a Rick bust for me. I ordered my GG direct version months ahead of the regular version which I got from AP collectibles. As it turns out GG did two separate edition size's of 1850. I was under the impression that it was one edition size with a certain unknown amount made into the web direct and the remainder the non hat version. I might would have never figured this one out but an impossibility has happened to me of improbable proportions. I hereby submit proof of this to you with two picture's and then I will post pics of my black and white bloody Rick custom variant. Remember, one ordered from GG the othe from AP collectibles.

They must have screwed up the written edition size on both busts. If I remember correctly, it was 1600 non-PGM and 250 PGM for a total of 1850. If not, then I've got a real concern.

The actual bust looks much better than the computer generated images however, keep in mind this is a prototype and usually these look better than the mass released product. Hopefully, if there are changes to Daryl's likeness, these won't depart too much from what can see in this picture: SDCC 2013 ...
