This is the one I will definitely be getting. I think Luke was my first figure back when I was a kid. But if I want to make it accurate I will also need Obiwan so I can switch the lightsabers. It always bothered me when I was a kid that Luke's lightsaber was yellow.

Colored toothpicks? That is awesome. Never was going to happen on my parents watch though.

I tore off the end hair-thick part of the lightsabers.

They don't have that in the movie!!!!

I agree! They made the big head/small head Han, why not do a DT for the PGM? I would definitely get Vader if so

No DT... strange that they would not do this for the line... I would love to have "The Ultimate Set" come with DT Luke, Ben and Vader along with a Vynil Cape Jawa. Those were in the "true first 12" right?

Supposed to be in August. That's what the GG website said before they revamped it. It could ship sooner because there is nothing slotted for July...?

Got my Luke today and it's pretty nice. Figures that are cape free and average height (3 3/4), GG does a great job with.

Couple things that I noticed after I had a chance to really check it out:

I would have gone a little thicker on the eyebrows/eye paint AND use dark brown paint for the eyes and brows instead of black.

Damn, I just noticed that they also painted the belt black rather than dark brown. Seriously, is the paint scheme THAT complicated?

Actually, I think they have the packing thing down now. My last three figures (Jawa, Sand People and Luke) were VERY well packed and arrived in perfect condition. Unlike the paper only method they were using at first, the paper and foam peanuts approach works just fine.

It's really all about the shipper at this point. Speaking of which, It was sent using the method I paid for this time - USPS rather than UPS.

I was beginning to wonder.

How can they have it down if the box is the same size as the card and the box only has about one inch of room for padding?

Glitch
08-25-2011, 12:15 AM
AaylaSecurasMan: I ordered through Gentle Giant.

Turbo: There's a little room around the edges between the card/case and the inside of the box (especially the sides), and the top of the case (with the peg holes) has a good inch or so worth of give to it. The main difference is foam peanuts. They hold the piece in place SO much better during shipping. Not only that, but the way they are packed now adds MUCH more structural integrity to the package as a whole.

As I said before, it's really all about the shipper. Of the last three with the new packing, I've had two come through UPS and this last one through the USPS and both arrived in great shape - box included.

.

Turbowars
08-25-2011, 08:10 AM
Yeah I know what the box and new packing material looks like because I have received a few figures in them and its still not good enough. It's the luck of the draw if you get a good condition figure. The Jawa came perfect, but the last 3 were beat up.

captainsolo

Looks good. Im really looking forward to this one.

Now he can match my "real" vintage carded Luke i got about 6 months ago.

Side note: I do agree about the packaging. They could do a better job. A bigger box would help, but i think they could also handle them better putting them in the boxes. As far as their lack of professionalism goes. I dont think they understand what that word means

Ahh... I think you misunderstood, it's people's original vintage figures that have the different belt colours, not GG's modern Jumbo vintage. Besides, nobody forces us to buy these things and certainly not because of a change to paint colours. I don't know about not being GG's fault. GG needs to pack these better. Granted a bigger box probably would not have help here, but every figure I got could had been in better shape if they were packed with care. I'm pretty much done with this line. If they were just doing the 1st 12 I would had bought them all, now they are going to do the next 20 after, no thanks. I don't need the stress of hoping I will get a nice product. I knew I should had just stuck with busts and Statues. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I received Luke yesterday. Ordered from Amazon because I had a $50 coupon. Nice figure overall. The eye paint is a bit too black, and somehow one of the eyes got a tiny bit of paint on the lower eyelid. Not a dealbreaker, but enough to notice. The head was turned to the side, which bothered me so much I opened the package, fixed the head, and resealed it. I'm happy with it overall.

Funny that you bring that up. Steve Sansweet and I were talking about this same subject last weekend.

While there may have been others that came before them (I remember these guys called Metal Men), Fisher-Price was the first to hit the market with an extensive line of 3 3/4" figures called Adventure People in 1975. While there's that story about the Kenner exec creating this scale by holding his thumb ad forefinger apart to give the scale he wanted Luke to be, Fisher-Price came first.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3424/3269954439_94900db657.jpg

In fact, Kenner created the Early Star Wars figure mock ups using Adventure People:

Yeah, that whole display makes my heart skip a beat - BIG time.

Notice how they crammed the Jawa and the Sand People in there after the fact. I guess this proves the Death Squad Commander was the last to be added in the magical "first 12." Well, that or he was the last mock up to be made.

I'm not sure those Adventure People mock-ups are in collector hands. I know that photo was from a binder that belonged to Jim Swearingen, the principal conceptual designer at Kenner for the Star Wars line.
I think if they still existed and somebody had them, they wouldn't have been able to resist a major limelighting thread.o-o Who knows?

I ordered the last one from BBTS last month. EE had one recently but now gone.

I thought he was talking about the GG site rather than other online retailers. I think I picked mine up from Amazon for like $40. I should have purchased more at that price.

:(

I totally dig this figure.

I see, I paid about $58 or so at BBTS but it is totally worth it, I agree, I love the figure it takes me back of course.

What was the point of your post if you're not going to tell people where you found him?

In the interest of helping those looking, here are a couple links to stores that say they have him in stock. Perhaps these are the secret sources "they" don't want you to know about...

Thanks.

Ordered a Tusken from

Yeah, I was only able to put 1 in my cart so I guess IndyMike beat you to it.

I never ordered from Northside, but I can see they have a web presence going back at least to 2006, and someone on this 'scum thread vouches for them as a high-end dealer:

Well guys I won't be buying from Rick at northside. Got the product, paid for fast priority 2-3 day mail and they used parcel post. Lied about when the package was shipped too. I will not deal with crap like that.

Use BBTS instead. They're always reliable, and their Pile of Loot shipping option is real beneficial.

Northside lied to me as well, a few years back. Have steered clear of them ever since.

-SnagsLOL nice. Wish I had known. Funny thing is he was really on top of the issue with me and trying to cover his bases, but when I got the box the truth came out. He even threw his employee under the bus and said they screwed it up. I'll take my business elsewhere. I guess it's my fault for not staying current on these figures. BBTS and GG and maybe most wanted will get my business.

Got mine in yesterday in great shape. A little criticism is that the right eye seems to have some overspray of paint, giving him an appearance of a black eye. I think his hair should've been gloss-painted, but I do like the figure.

It's probably because they don't have it in stock. Some of these fly by night shops do crap like that. Notice is says shipping in July. I bet in a few days it will say shipping in august. For the future stick with the big stores that actually have a place of business and not their garage. Then again it might ship. You need to call them.

Hollywood Heroes is hardly a fly by night shop. I am sure you will get help from them.

I did get a reply from Joran on the second email. It should be processing today. That was my concern, that they may be out of stock. But the more I looked at the Luke with the "black eye", the more it bugged me, so I had to go with another company that had them in stock as the one I got from Northside was their last one.

Mike-

I did get back to you. I hope you understand, when you asked us for the item I was on the road filming with Travel Channel. I do apologize.

I still have the figure for you if you would like it, and will honor our price. Please get in touch with me. I do not believe this has the over spray you have been talking about.

All my best- and again... sorry for the delay.

Jordan,

Sorry about making it sound like you were unresponsive. I think I got interrupted mid-sentence and didn't finish that thought in my post. I got your reply after placing the order with Toy Fed. I'll blame myself as I was a bit nervous about these running out. I'll shoot you an email shortly.

I've had nothing but great service from Northside. Rick has actually come through for me when items may have been sold out and I contacted him for help. I also purchase a lot from Razor's Edge and Redford and occasionally from AP collectibles and Urban Collector.

Third time's a charm! Jordan at Hollywood Heroes came through for me with a non-black-eyed Luke! There's a slight paint issue around his belt but not a deal breaker. So Northside and Toy Federation should have a Luke back each for anyone needing that doesn't mind a paint miscue.

Both Nside and Toy Fed have been great to deal with as well with the returns.

I finally landed a Luke at a reasonable cost, but his head is as stiff as a board and won't turn. I'm not forcing it any more as it might just break but has anyone else noticed this? I did receive a Chewie with a broken arm (replaced by the seller immediately) but wondered if anyone else out there has noticed how delicate these are despite being very simple in construction. I've also noticed some figures, like Chewie, don't stand straight. This is very annoying given the expense of these and modern tooling/manufacture and GG's reputation of producing high end products.

IndyMike
08-10-2012, 02:44 PM
The Chewie could be due to the direct scanning. I never had any luck standing my actual Chewie figure as a kid. One of his feet are smaller than the other, thus causing a lean. I remember trying to buy multiple Chewies as a kid to see if they would stand, but they were all like that.

Yeah, I remember my Vader had similar issues as a kid, but the GG stands fine. I'm totally down with how accurate GG wanted these things to be compared to the originals but just a bit of minor tweaking would not go amiss, especially if it means the figure stands upright!
