Regarding the discussion about Yoda as the atrocious puppet in Episode I...
I did this mashup (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wFcM_TXKI0) a few years ago comparing the puppet to the cgi test Jimmy was talking about.

Personally, I agree with Jason about the seamlessness of Yoda in the OT versus that oddity in Episode I.

And as for the rumor about a CGI Yoda in the 3D version (as well as upcoming box set), I hadn't heard it, but I've been spreading it! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I thought we had heard in an interview somewhere with Rob Coleman where he says they are very interested in "re-visiting" the EPI Yoda.

Stay tuned...

If anyone's interested, regarding Kyle Newman's question about Star Trek Jean-Luc Picard home town, here's the answer.

Captain Picard was born in La Barre (Haute-Sa˘ne) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Picard) and it is an actual city (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Barre_(Haute-Sa%C3%B4ne))

One of your best shows ever, guys! Awesome, bizarre and hilarious all at once.

Jason: I hear you about not (usually) caring about stuff that happened 1000s of years before the movies. Tales of the Jedi left me completely cold, for instance.

But KoToR is the exception to the rule. The depth of storytelling and characterization in that is worthy of comparison with the 90's Batman: The Animated Series. Do yourself a favor and watch the playthrough on YouTube. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That being said, I have to change my position on the Disney World dancing. I was okay with one madcap moment, but Chewbacca and Vader as rappers? Really? I'm going to vomit! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif This is a bad idea on two levels:

1. Star Wars latching on to the latest pop-culture fads never ends well *cough*holidayspecial*cough*.

2. Much of rap (not all, but a lot of it) is about gleeful murder, misogony, drugs and more. I don't think Star Wars - or Disney, for that matter - should be associating themselves with that.

Regarding Sonny's comments: Roddenberry died in 1991, so it's been about 18 years. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But I think a time-travel story would be a great idea for Star Wars. I don't always like time travel as a "quick fix" solution, but that would resolve so many of the continuity problems between OT and PT! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Regarding CGI Yoda: He's awesome. Of course I won't deny that. But I still wish he looked a little more like the puppet. The eye placement is all wrong. I guess that's the illustrator in me coming out. But that's a quibble, I know.

Finally - Star Wars is back in Chicago this weekend! Woo-hoo! I'm definitely going to the Force Among Us screening. Who else from here is going? We should all meet up. (Is there a thread about this somewhere? I didn't see one.)

wow, okay. What an episode. Random phone calls, Jason dropping F-bombs and at least 3 new inside jokes for us. The stars aligned for this one.

Notes
-The Yoda was a different sculpt then the original puppet on purpose to make him look 'younger'....by 30 years on top of 870. Which is stupid. Plus, I think the puppet industry, wasn't even in the state it was 20 years earlier when it was hopping; suddenely they had to revamp the puppet industry. And the reason I don't like that Yoda, other than looking more like Yoda's sister, is that when he talks his head moves too spastically, with his cranium moving back and forth more than his jaw does. ugh.

-Also, on the Ewan matter. I think I recall around Ep. III release that some key actors were asked about the live-action show and if they'd be interested. Among them were Ian McDiarmid and Jimmy Smits, both of whom said they'd loved to be involved if asked. I'm pretty sure Ewan was asked too, with the same answer...I'm almost positive, since after fans were saying how great it would be to see Obi Wan on Tatooine. But he probably just doesn't remember, which is also understandable.

-And I thought it was funny last week or before, maybe, when Jason was on a vacattion from work, at home with his daughter he was a positive ray of sunshine on that week's show. I made a mental note of it. Going back to the j.o.b. must've put him in a negative nellie spot. It's okay Jason, I'm a believer in Zen and the Ying/Yang of life. I don't want to here all the Star Wars news through rose-colored glasses! Keep on asking the tough questions and holding our beloved franchise to a higher standard: it needs that now, maybe more than ever as so many things are taking off so quickly.

-Lastly, the rumor on the 2nd and maybe 3rd cartoons coming out of Lucas Animation: Foremost, these may not be both based on Star Wars. I'm sure Lucas Animation is going to be producing many cartoons in the future that will have the brand on the opening credits, but nothing more to do with us. Also, if you remember the rumors about the Clone Wars, there was a leaked report from a journalist or critic who was at an industry screening. His report was that they had two animated shows! One was very childish and the other was the Clone Wars. Those were the reports for the longest time until Clone Wars clips/trailers were released and everyone stopped talking about the 'other'.

Okay, I gotta make like Christian and Bail...

-The Yoda was a different sculpt then the original puppet on purpose to make him look 'younger'....by 30 years on top of 870. Which is stupid.

Good point. Also, the first Yoda had to be performed by a dozen different people. Frank Oz could puppeteer the new Yoda all by himself, but I bet that meant a radically different sculpt inside.

-Also, on the Ewan matter. I think I recall around Ep. III release that some key actors were asked about the live-action show and if they'd be interested.

Regarding the cartoon: Even if Ewan was offered the cartoon, he may still not have heard about it. The offer would have gone to his agent first, and for whatever reason, the agent may have thought Ewan wouldn't be interested in that kind of thing. Or it may have even been a money issue - Lucasfilm asked the agent if Ewan wanted to be involved or not, the agent named a price that was too high, and Lucasfilm moved on. (Besides, I love the guy who does the voice now!)

-Lastly, the rumor on the 2nd and maybe 3rd cartoons coming out of Lucas Animation: Foremost, these may not be both based on Star Wars.

That seems more likely and more logical. I'd love to see an animated show set in the OT universe or in the KotOR universe, but both seem unlikely. And basing a show on Galactic Heroes? Yeeech!

I bet we'll see an animated Indiana Jones movie before too long - a lot of fans have been pushing for that. The other one might be a resurrected Lucasfilm property - Sam & Max, Maniac Mansion, Full Throttle, etc. - or something new entirely.

BTW, Jason - regarding your comments that an MMO set in the OT universe would catch your attention: I agree that it's good in concept. But there already was such a game. It was called "Galaxies," and everyone hated it! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Until next time - keep an eye out for Christian Bail Organa! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm the guy who actually won the MP3 player. I've graduated to an Ipod since, but I may still have it lying around. Maybe I can send it to the kid?

Notes:

- Basically a fantastic episode, had me laughing a lot. Plus the shock of hearing someone trying to win the MP3 player won a long time ago... it was great!

- Th Old Republic... where to begin. First off, I agree with Jason that people should NOT be judging the trailer of the game as what the game will be. In fact that there are screen shots out of the game, and the art style isn't the realistic one shown in the trailer. It's more like a combination of realism and the clone wars cartoon. You really have to see it to understand.

Second, Bioware is making this game, not Lucasarts. So the trailer wasn't made by amazing Lucasarts artists, it was made by amazing Bioware artists.

Third, I like Jasons idea of news from the game happening every so often. Like when they made the Matrix Online, they actually killed Morpheus during one event. The ability to have the non-mmo players look in on the in-game canon would be great!

Fourth, I don't play MMO's, but the Old Republic era is by FAR the most interesting era in all of Star Wars. I know Jason doesn't care, but I sure do. But yeah... I'm still dissapointed that it's an MMO.

Sorry I'm a bit late lol, only got around to listening to this show yesterday.

Very sad to hear Jason's complete dismissal of the Old republic era... to me Tales of the jedi, KotOR, the KotOR comics and the Darth Bane stuff are the best the EU has to offer, and are great because the massive time difference frees the writers to come up with great stories without feeling they are constrained by the movies. For the record Computer games AREN'T canon, there are certain aspects of the story that will become canon but it doesn't mean you have to buy it and become a member of it's fan Club lol.

I'm also disappointed that "Purists" dont care about the Old Republic MMO... Because Bioware have kinda alienated (Read overlooked) the actual KotOR fans and given the Game and Cinematic trailer an almost carbon copy Prequel era palette in order to draw in the casual/film only crowd, disappointing really, even though you dont care, there making the game for you /rant

But after that depressing rant, the show was awesome, with great guests and discussion as always, just try and humor us EU fans a bit more Jason, I want to listen, but when someone is constantly saying the things I love about Star Wars arent official or are even any good, or should be scrapped... Starts to grind my gears a bit http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know, I know, late to this one!

I just finished listening to this show yesterday. I was out of town for awhile and I've been scrambling to get caught up.

This was a truly fantastic episode! It had all the elements that make the ForceCast so great: Jimmy and Jason bringing their unique and at times opposing views to all things Star Wars, amazing guests, crazy glitches, random phone calls, great inside Star Wars news, and more.

I know we tell you guys all the time, but thanks again for all the hard work and the sacrifice of time that you put into the show. It is one of the brightest spots in the Star Wars Galaxy for me!

I agree. I love the show, but that rant was a bit much. I've listen to about 10 shows, and thats the first I heard Jason rant like that, so its forgiven. (plus he's from Ohio, so he gets props for that) Again I loved the show, but I wanted to show my love for the EU! And represent us "non-purists."
