great episode! I had to pause it twice to check youtube for Darth Jackson and the Pryor sketch, which was unbelievable!

Side note: Jason mentioned how we were discussing the safety of Audible.com, but we weren't saying it's not a secure website but that the free download then starts to charge people if they don't know to discontinue it immediately.

Audible is definitely not a scam. Don't blame them because you didn't read the fine print. I'm sorry, but you should know better than to assume that they'd give away a free book with no strings attached. Most services on the Internet that distribute free content as part of a trial (which is what the Audible site calls it) start charging you after the trial expires. Audible's free book is considered a testing period, not a one-time giveaway. So when the testing period expires, they assume that you haven't canceled yet because you want to keep going.

Well, regrettably Jason has presented it as precisely that: a no strings attached offer, he even said it was completely unlike the Columbia Record Club and those kind of things.

Of course, if somebody asks me for my credit card number I read the small print very carefully. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's fair. And he obviously shouldn't. But the responsibility doesn't end with Jason. Any wise consumer should investigate further before jumping into the offer.

No argument there.

Exactly. I do remember reading about the monthly plans etc and NOT choosing this option. I will got through the process of making another account and see where the problem lies, I may have miss-read something or clicked the wrong box w/e and let everyone know if there is an inherent problem or something to be mindful off.
I have no problem with there product's and would gladly pay per book but no way I will pay a monthly fee.

I'm not much for audio books, so I've never bothered to sign up for audible.com. However, do they charge you per book as well as monthly fee?

Cramer

yes. so if you download your free one then never go back again, they'll still charge you a monthly fee for being a memeber.

And yes, like Jorbex said and I was saying in a previous thread, Jason does make it sound like a no strings attached deal exclusively for Force-cast listeners. But it's not.

I was expecting an actual free download, like the way we got to download LOtF Betrayal. It wasn't luck that I too wanted to read the fine print when it asked for my credit number, but still I can understand how a lot of people will get burned. Especially Force-cast listeners who have heard twice that it is safe and many times that it is a freebie.

I think it should be explained on the show. That would be the honest thing to do

I agree. I don't know how often Jason and Jimmy visit the forums, but I would like them to clear the air on this. I'll email them about it.

Technically Audible is pertinent to any show thread as long as that particular show was sponsored by Audible. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif
