View Full Version : As the Forcecast Continues

Once Jason's baby is born should the Forcecast go to a MONTHLY format to accomodate both him and Pete? Providing of course it suits their needs.

I would be willing to settle for that in order the maintain the show as is.

To get Jason and Pete back in the studio together, I would settle for monthly, with high hopes for bi-weekly. As listeners we have to face the cold hard truth: Jason and Pete's lives are evolving in ways that cannot accommodate the show we've known for two years. Events like Pete's departure and the occasional missed shows of the past few months will become more and more frequent, and not because they don't care or don't like doing the show. As the show [hopefully] continues growing and more new fans join us on the forum, or in the chat, or on the Facebook group, we as longterm hardcore fans need to set a good example. People will start dropping off if we make it sound like the show is dying.

Because the truth is, the Force-Cast is not dying. It's just changing.

It's not dying, it's changing.
The posts re:Pete's hiatus just express our desire for the current format to continue.
The Force-Cast has grown into legitimacy -- just look at the interviews they're commanding now.
I'd just like to see these guys get paid for all this hard work. It could be a full-time job. It seems to me that another fan (and avid collector) is now a very public face of Lucasfilm. And for what it's worth, he knows the Force-Cast quite well.

Would I like the transition to monthly?
Obviously not as much as I'd like to keep the guys on a weekly basis.
But I think for a short-term solution, it's feasible (barring giving these guys their due and paying them for their work). Interspersed in those weeks without "formal" Force-Casts there could be Galaxies of Music, MicroCasts, etc.
But I also think that this solution has its problems. Monthly, rather than weekly, podcasts lose their momentum and risk "fizzling out", which I couldn't stand.

Let it be short-term. Get Pete married... Give Jason his paternity leave... Then get back to business!

BTW -- I don't think Pete's leaving. He'll be noticeably absent for a while, that's all. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I totally agree with a monthly-based show.
Marriage and newborn definitely are chronophageous (I should know, I'm right in the middle of it !)

Of course, it's not possible to cover in two hours the wealth of a month of SW news, especially now that TCW is off the ground, but maybe things like TCW, TFU should be hosted by others?
J+P are not the only Force-Cast members, and I could very well see a Jovial Jay's CW monthly roundtable (interlaced with the monthly FC episodes)
The same goes for SW games/toys ... This could be a sub-FC in its own right... (wait, it already exists for toys! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Which doesn't mean Jason or Pete couldn't act as guests in these other-casts, much like Dan Curto does from time to time in the FC.

...

You're not the only one to express that view, and I agree.
A petition or massive fans mail nicely presenting this idea could help things going the right way, couldn't it?
And there are more than one SW personalities who objectively know the good work the FC delivers ...

As long as there IS a Force-Cast, I'll be 100% happy.

Weekly, bi-weekly, monthly -- makes no difference to me at all.

Whatever is the most convenient for Jason, Pete, and the rest of the gang.

I think there has been a lot of fear in here this weekend. Pete is not gone forever. As for a format change, we have already seen that in the Clone Wars Roundtable. As the series gets underway I would imagine that while new episodes are running this will be the format for most weeks. I was already guessing we would see a format change in this direction long before Pete announced his hiatus. And Pete did say he would be dropping by on a few of these.

Would I be happy with a monthly broadcast? If it was the only way to keep the show together, yes. Call me optimistic but I think the show will be fine. Pete will be missed but he did say he is going on a hiatus. He did not say we would never hear him again.

With other podcasts I listen to, when one host is not available, they try to sub in someone else. Obviously, the chemistry isn't quite there, but the show goes on. Could we do that with Jason or Pete and a guest like Curto, Ed, Jimmy, Jay, Eric, Justin, etc, etc...?

I personally don't think so. The Force-Cast is the main program and it should cover all SW news that is important to the mainstream audience. That's why Indy, hardcore collecting, music, and EU are separate -- they're niches.

Awww, shucks. Well I for one would need to make a disclaimer at the beginning just to ease nerves and fears: "I am not trying to be Pete." It goes without saying but it's still important to note. But I doubt they will pull on listeners for full co-host situations, even just for an episode. We don't have the professionalism required for this magnitude of a show, nor do we have the podcasting experience. I mean don't get me wrong, I think any of us would do a great job--just not good enough to maintain the Force-Cast "feel".

I was proposing this solution because if the show goes monthly, and keeps the two-ish hours format, "big" stories like TCW or TFU won't really fit with the other news of the month, it seems to me.
And if Jason (and Pete) still participate as guests to other FC, it won't mean as much prep work for them.

But ... maybe we're anticipating and trying to second-guess a little too much here ... I'm sure Jason and Pete thought this through.
We know they're true professionals, I totally trust them to find an elegant solution. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Once again, Satka hits the nail on the head. I think we need to relax, the show is in a great moment, and I'm sure that as long as we, the listeners, are here, the Force-Cast will be also. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I agree here. Pete didn't say he was leaving. He's on hiatus, a leave of absence while he gets his off-air affairs in order. We will still be here.

We can't be upset after all. Why should we get upset at the people who donate their time each week, with no pay or recompense, and give us free entertainment? I don't bite hands that feed me, especially when the food is free. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good and important points and I'm sure there's been endless discussion by the FC team regarding all the above and much more than we know.

My reservation comes from the understanding that children and spouses usually and should take precedence over volunteering hours of any kind. And with precisely those two additions to our host's lives it's safe to speculate.

BTW all our upheaval I'm sure comes only as testament to our adimration for them and what they've given us for the last two years.
As far as ill will or anger, I've not yet heard anyone express anything close here.

But optimisim is good and it's true the word is hiatus

And it had better remain that way, as it would be pretty immature & selfish for someone to actually complain about Pete not being a regular on the show.

We are all big fans around here and will support our buddies with anything they need! We can also give our input on what we would like. After all, we're their target audience.

Getting married and having little padawans changes some things, but you CAN make your life work without giving up your special moments. (Otherwise, how would I be still listening each week? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif )And I can't wait for little Obi-Wan Swank to make his first appearance on the live show.

We have to adapt to the changes that may be coming, but I hope not too much. I do share the anxiety with all you guys for sure though.

J & P, we love you guys!

I have to agree with both Satka and Jorbex. Although Pete's leave of absence might be emotional, I will continue to listen to the Force-Cast no matter what happens. I'm sure that this is impacting the FC team as well, and we need to embrace whatever they decide is best. They haven't steered us wrong yet. I look forward to listening to the Force-Cast well into the future!
