View Full Version : SDCC 2008 Exclusive Revealed

05-07-2008, 02:19 PM
This just in! This year's G.I. Joe SDCC exclusive will be unveiled later today!

From Hasbro's G.I. Joe head honcho Neal Hoffman:

First off thank you for helping make the SDCC Destro a success last year; what a way to kick off the 25th anniversary! The fans have really been behind us over the past year for the 25th and the team wanted to do something special for ComicCon again to reward the fans who have stuck with us and supported us over the year. If you thought 2007 was great with new figures, just wait until we start getting into vehicles in 2008!

Rather than just tell you (and the community) the 2008 SDCC Exclusive…we decided to have some fun and put together a short video announcing the item. We will go live at 3:30 this afternoon on GI Joe.com. Please spread the word and enjoy.

Thank you for your continual support, passion, and not breaking my ComicCon Exclusives until I was ready to show them http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

To answer the most common questions; Yes we are making more than last year’s Destro, No I cannot tell you how many, Yes there is a variant, Yes there is an allotment to be sold on HTS.com for folks who cannot go to the con, Yes it comes in a protective case, Yes I have a second exclusive which we will be debuting with the club over the next week.

wow, that's kinda, um, uneventful.

05-07-2008, 03:10 PM
I'm digging it. At least he's in a different outfit and not another straight repaint of the helmet CC again.

05-07-2008, 03:15 PM
i say that grabbing a couple of these and an extra tomax/xamot pack to make customs might be kinda slick. assuming everything is proportioned well enough to pull it off. but yea, overall, i'm rather on the fence on this one. i'll need to see some better pictures. to be honest, so far i think the coolest part is the podium.

05-07-2008, 03:44 PM
ah good, that's $10-$15 less I need to worry about sending to SD with my friends.

05-07-2008, 05:08 PM
I'll get it...but I was hoping for Cobra De Arco...Oh well...

05-07-2008, 05:34 PM
I think this is a great choice! I've the suit and Podium. I betting the variant is just the silver faced helmeted head.

05-07-2008, 05:48 PM
very clever. I actually kinda like it

05-07-2008, 08:04 PM
the variant is CC in his blue blazer....

i was hoping for a WWIII/solo series storm shadow. maybe they'll mass produce one now?

Interesting. Don't hate it, but don't love it either. It looks like an unemployed Commander all dressed up for a job interview, heh. I'd bet anything Hasbro initially designed the suit body for an upcoming Tomax/Xamot EE 2-pack, and sticking the Commander's head on it was just an afterthought.

05-07-2008, 10:18 PM
I want two....

One because it shows the core of what CC is....a scheming Pyramid-scheme-running shyster with an odd hood fetish...

and two, because the body will be perfect to put one of the new Wild Bill heads on to make a perfect Commissioner Gordon custom... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

looks like it should have been a joecon exclusive. that is kinda lame especially for 10 bucks.

05-08-2008, 11:18 AM
It's a perfect exclusive figure for an election year.

That skinny Cobra Commander must be Obama because McCain is too pudgy http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

05-08-2008, 12:17 PM
wow i actually like it,ill get it just for the podium.and im always wanting to have some just plain guys in suites so i may justdo a headswap.

05-08-2008, 01:03 PM
Cobra Commander without a closed fist! I'm sold.

05-10-2008, 04:46 PM
You know, at one time there was a Duke in a suit planned. I may get a few of these. Can never have enough guys in suits. As far as Tomax and Xamot customs, one suit would have to be a mirror image of the other. So that really wouldn't work.

05-10-2008, 06:03 PM
Since Hasbro is making more of these, it should be a little easier to get it from HTS. I mean I would love to go to SDCC but I've been the last two years. Plus, I don't think this one will be as popular as [censored] Destro.

05-16-2008, 11:26 AM
Hey!! You got G.I. Joe in my Galactic Heroes!! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Don't think I'll be in any rush to get this one.....

05-16-2008, 11:55 AM
Well Hasbro is getting it together with their GI Joe exclusives for Comic Con...

But you know what I want to see? THE FREAKING SIDESHOW CRAP! Seriously, they announce the line back before Toy Fair, and have yet to as much as preview an actual figure.

05-16-2008, 12:42 PM
Damn you Hasbro, more money gone out of my wallet-- I figured this was coming at some point this year-- just hope they learned from the Transformer mistake and keep with the Cartoon/Comic versions- and not do 4 waves in a row of movie crap (especially when you roughly only have 10 characters to pick from)

05-23-2008, 04:29 PM
Sign me up for at least one of each! YAY!!!

I just read over on Hisstank.com that this is going to be a repaint of the Henry Jones figure from the Indiana Jones line. If that's the case, he's going to be a bit shorter than the rest of the 25th line. I'm not sure if this report is true though.
