Re: Tobey Maguire Says No To Spider-Man 4???

Here is another website reporting the same thing.

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire says he doesn’t "anticipate" signing on for a Spider-Man 4, although he’s already on the hook for the third film due in May 2007.

"I don't anticipate doing a fourth movie," Maguire told the Daily Star. "I think three is probably enough for me, but you never know. If they sent me a script that was better than any I've ever read and offered me a piece of Sony Corporation... never say never, you know? Sony is a big company."

Co-star Kirsten Dunst says she’ll only do a fourth film if the script is "awesome."

Eh, big deal. He doesn't bring anything particularly special to the role, and the whole Spider Man series is the least interesting of all the superhero franchises going on right now.

Wait, no, I take it back. Fantastic four is the least interesting. But Spiderman is just...meh.

I would hate to see them continue to make Spider-Man movies with out Toby, and truthfully I would also hate to see them run the series into the ground. I think three should be the stopping point.

True but for all the Fan Boy groupies who are hoping for a full blown Venom Storyline for Spider-Man 4 this would be a huge blow as you know the Fan Boys like everything to be consistent throughout a series. Not to mention you have to cast a brand new Mary Jane as well??

I know that the Spidey fans are already screaming because now it looks like we'll never see big-screen versions of such villains as Carnage, The Vulture, The Lizard, Black Cat, etc. But, truthfully, Maguire is probably right about stopping at Spider-Man 3 before the franschise runs out of gas. Then, in a few more years, dig it up again and start anew! Recast the leads, but keep it part of the same franchise, so we aren't retelling the stories of Green Goblin, Doc Ock, etc. In other words, pull a Superman Returns instead of a Batman Begins.
Some days, it just doesn't seem worth the effort of chewing through the restraints!

The problem is the franchise has yet to have a bad film, the first 2 films have done extremely well and I believe the 3rd one will as well. They'd be stupid to stop at 3 when the franchise has done fantastic and doesnt show any sign of slowing down.

Re: Tobey Maguire Says No To Spider-Man 4???

I've never really been a fan of the Spider-Man comics. I always thought everything seemed to be too catered to the sterotypical fanboy, but then again I've never gotten too deep into the series. However, I have enjoyed both movies from a popcorn cinematic factor and think that Maguire lives up to the role really well. The stories, characters and production have all been pretty well rounded, on par with X-Men 1 and 2, although X-Men has Spider-Man beat simply because of the depth of so many characters.

So as a non-fanatic, I would enjoy seeing more Spider-Man movies just so long as they maintained the same quality as the first two.

Agreed!! This movie seems to beat the first two actually, and if it does, they should continue! I know it'll be weird without MgGuire, but I think Jake Gyllenhall could do a great job, as long as he committed to 3 movies!!

As far as Dunst, what I've said all along, give her characer a break and focus on Gwen Stacy, then at the end of that trilogy she should die, and if demand warrants it, the next trilogy could have yet another Spider Man and a new Mary Jane!!
