    Life Size Cobot

Don't know if anyone was watching the following auction for a life size Cobot

I was bidding on it since it seemed to be in very good condition. I know there isn't much information around about numbers produced/remaining since I looked it up while bidding, but does anyone have a better idea of how many were made, etc? I know the one on the archive is different and this one more closely resembles the toy, so I assume this was a later piece. Was this version approved by Lucasfilm? Any additional information is appreciated.

    And the toy for comparison:

There was an, ahem, outstanding article on the Cobot posted over at Kessel Mines a few months ago, if you've got HS access:

Have a Cobot and a Smile

Basically, there was an estimated 275 total of the full-size Cobots produced. It was approved by Lucasfilm as an advertising mascot, but there were issues when Coke tried to merchandise it as a toy.

Thanks Pete. I'll have to check out the article after I buy my hyperspace membership for my C4 ticket purchase.

Didn't realize there were approximately 275 made. I certainly would have thought a lot less.

    Thanks for the info.

Well I bought my hyperspace membership and had a chance to read the article. Very well done Pete. It is a shame that information like that gets hidden on a website where the only way to access it is to buy a subscription membership that most don't find of value (me included).

Getting back to the article, I was not aware of all the additional products related to Cobot. Coca Cola certainly did get the most milage out of their droid. I was aware of poster, pins and cups, but I had no idea they had additional skins for the life size robot to promote their other soft drinks. Are there any pics running around of Cobot wearing his "other" duds? Looks like I've found another focus to concentrate on.

Thanks again Pete for such a good article.

I saw one at the Brimfield, MA antique show a few years ago. If I had the way to get it home,I would have bought it. It needed some work, but he only wanted about $900 for it. I kick myself for not bringing a truck that day

    Mike --

Glad you liked the article. Since Coke was the company's flagship brand, examples, and even photos, of the Cobot wearing Sprite, Pibb, or what have you are really rare. I do have a shot of a Cobot sold a few years ago on ebay sporting the Diet Coke logo. I've also got a pic somewhere of a "Sprite-bot" button -- basically the same as the Cobot examples but with a green Sprite logo.

    Pete,

was year was that Diet Coke Cobot supposedly made? Is it a recent product or a fan-made creation? Diet Coke was introduced in summer 1982.

Good ol' Cobot. The first time I saw him was at a shopping mall in Portland, Maine way back when.

Here's another shot of Cobot with an alternate body style:

Back in 1980, "the Robot" made an appearance at the CNE in Toronto, Canada with other 'stars'. Coca-Cola Canada was also giving away free Cokes to those in attendance:

Here are 2 versions of the Canadian Cobot pins. These were most likely given out at personal appearances such as the CNE appearance above:

"Y a rien comme un Coke" means: There's nothing like a Coke.

Lastly, here are 2 different "I-M-Q-2" (I'm Cute Too) pins. The seller of these pins was from Singapore:
