    What is this poster?

    This is sweet:

I like my regular Ep4 "Style A" repro poster, but this one is a bit different as it has a different version of Luke & Leia (and the droids) painted on the poster. And the poster is more black than the brownish "Style A" (this poster is actually close to what the covers of old VHS movie cases looked like).

So what exactly is this poster? Is it vintage? It looks like it might be a poster from a theatrical re-release of Ep4 in the late-70's or 80's (since it says "A New Hope" on it). Anyone know for sure?
    What, me worry?

    Re: What is this poster?

Very ironic, since I talked about this very poster in this THREAD last week!

It's an "alternative version" release of the ANH poster from Kilian Enterprises in 1993 (they're numbered and mine is #3423), who also produced the beautiful Drew Struzan 10th anniversary print, if I'm not mistaken. I purchased mine through an ad in one of the old West End Games' SW Roleplaying Game's supplemental books. (The Trilogy Sourcebook)

It's a neat version, but as I mentioned in the earlier thread, my copy is basically worthless since, as a newly minted teenager, I was easily dupped into dry mounting the darn thing by the lady at the local craft store.

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you the current value of a undamaged copy.

    Re: What is this poster?

As was stated before, it's a Hildebrandt 10th anniversary poster. There were two versions of this poster, there is one with "Star Wars" and one with "A New Hope". The "A New Hope" poster is slightly more rare then the Star Wars poster. They also made a signed version of the "A New Hope" poster.

The poster is worth between $15-$50 depending on the day.

What's interesting is that none of the Hildebrandt versions were ever officially released as a US movie poster. It was released in Mexico, Turkey, and in some Spanish speaking areas of the US.

    Re: What is this poster?

If I remember right, the anniversary poster is labeled as a style B.

I think I should provide a further bit of clarification on the subject:

The "10th Annivesary" poster is a black mylar edition very similar to the second advance, "Style B" originally issued in '77, but with the addition of "The First 10 Years" across the bottom. The 10th anniversary print is actually one of the versions I mentioned above. It's a beautiful Drew Struzan commission that features Luke, front and center, with the title "Star Wars, The First Ten Years"across the top.

Flash forward 5 years and Kilian Enterprises releases a "Style A" 15th Anniversary poster that features the Hildebrandt artwork with the familiar "Star Wars" in large print and "A New Hope" directly below in small lettering. LINK As a follow-up in 1993, Kilian Enterprises made available for sale an alternate edition of the "Style A" Hildebrandt poster w/ "A New Hope" in a more prominant large lettered position. As Jrosen mentioned, some copies came signed, some did not. This is the specific poster Eight_Nunb refers to in his original post

    Re: What is this poster?

You're right. It's the 15th anniversary poster. Simple mistake.

However, there were 5 10th anniversary posters plus the Drew Print.

The most common and probably most desired was the silver 10th annivesary mylar advance. It looks like the original Star Wars Advance B, with the tag line The First 10 Years and the US release date.

They made two rarer versions of this poster. Both are gold mylar, and one has the US release date and one has the British release date.

An artist named Alvin produced this 10th anniversary poster on heavy card stock.

The last 10th anniversary poster came a from Bantha Tracks magazine. It shows a time line of the 10 years since Star Wars.

Here is the Drew print on rag paper.

    Re: What is this poster?

^Great info - thanks for posting the additional anniversary pics.

For anyone that's interested, here's a good website showing a nicely detailed listing of most of the major SW poster releases through '97 or so. There are a few innaccuracies, including the specific poster we've been talking about, but it gives you a nice visual guide until Sansweet's book is out!

That site is good. LAMP does an excellent job at putting together posters from just about every movie. If you are looking at just Star Wars posters, check out:

    www.starwarsmovieposter.com

It's a much better site then LAMP for just Star Wars posters. My pictures of these posters aren't on the web, so I borrowed his.
