A Doubt about R2-D2 "Solid Dome" variation

    Hi,

I've always had doubts about the variation called Solid Dome (I think also known as Chrome Dome) from the R2-D2 figure (Kenner Coo Hong Kong).
How exactly one can distinguish a normal R2 respect to a R2 "Solid Dome"?, If the figure has wear on the dome, is the same?. What exactly is the difference between the two?
    Sorry, my english is poor...

    Greetings.

A 'solid dome' R2 is not a variant it's just a name for the original R2 released for the Star Wars line.

Later in the Empire line R2 was re-released with a sensorscope and then later again with a pop up lightsaber, which is why 'solid dome' just means the original figure.

In this link you can see better what I mean:

Photos Should be clear, but I do not know exactly where the difference: is only about wear on the head of the figure ...?

Edit: Sorry, I realize now, I think I'm making a mistake with this false "variation" ...

One more thing on this subject:

When we speak of R2-D2 "Solid Dome" or "Chrome Dome" would be like when we talk about Luke Skywalker "Farmboy"?, Ie, the first figure of Luke, that differentiate it from other Lukes called "Farmboy". .. would it be the same case?.

    Best regards.

    Correct.
In Luke Skywalker case, they are Luke Farmboy, Luke Hoth, Luke Jedi, etc.
In R2-D2, they are R2-D2 Solid Dome, R2-D2 with sensorscope and R2-D2 with pop up saber.

I never knew this. I thought the dome must have been solid underneath.

This is why I love RS so much......

    Yep,

It just means that there are no holes in the dome for a sensorscope or for a pop up saber. Just "solid". Straight up original R2-D2.

"Chrome dome" could also be used to separte the original from the Droids figure, but I've never heard the term used. Its just good ol' original R2-D2!
Those WERE the Droids I was looking for!
