Imagine Lucas kept it the way it originally was- Darth Vader killed Anakin Skywalker instead of actually being the same person as Anakin Skywalker? Darth Vader is now a voldemort figure that killed Luke's father. Would Luke still have succesfully redeemed Vader (or would he have even tried to) if Vader wasn't his real father? How would this affect the storyline at all?
I have a feeling he would have killed Vader outright. There's no reason to redeem him. Jedi would have been entirely different, at least in the Luke/vader storyline.
