    Custom Light Saber Hilt prop

Hey all... I made a custom light saber hilt to be used for filming and rotoscoping purposes and was wondering what people may think of it... Its made of metal and has brass knobs. Its very solid. The emitter piece can be removed to insert a wooden dowel for action sequences that can be rotoscoped later in post-production. Here's a couple of pics of what it looks like:

Please note... That's just a plain ol' wooden dowel about 4 feet long. I put the duct tape on teh end of it to fit inside nice and tight and it does. It will allow for swinging and hitting at high speeds without falling out of the hilt. The black marks on the dowel help the tracking of the blade as its swinging thru the air. Easier to see a black streak against a background then a light brown one. LOL When rotoscoped you never see the dowel at all... well... take a look at the video below

You can see it in action here and see the scale and how it fits in your hand:

I may have to make a new video, with a bit better quality. That one really sucked! LOL Lemme know what you think!

Pretty neat looking saber. Is it built from scratch?

Totally scratch built. It's quite a nice hilt. Very solid and hefty. I was thinking about taking the toy saber electronics out and putting them in this at one time but decided against it. Simply because I needed to use this for filming. Worked very well.

Not to be rude, but why is this in the "original prop" forum? Why not in the for sale, or custom replicas?

Had no idea where to list it... its not a replica of any particular saber... and I made it completely custom for filming and rotoscoping.

This area is for real movie props, this belongs in the FS area or the Props: Fan Made Replicas area
