Hey all... I made a custom light saber hilt to be used for filming and rotoscoping purposes and was wondering what people may think of it... Its made of metal and has brass knobs. Its very solid. The emitter piece can be removed to insert a wooden dowel for action sequences that can be rotoscoped later in post-production. Here's a couple of pics of what it looks like:
Please note... That's just a plain ol' wooden dowel about 4 feet long. I put the duct tape on teh end of it to fit inside nice and tight and it does. It will allow for swinging and hitting at high speeds without falling out of the hilt. The black marks on the dowel help the tracking of the blade as its swinging thru the air. Easier to see a black streak against a background then a light brown one. LOL When rotoscoped you never see the dowel at all... well... take a look at the video below
