What do you do with your old/previous cell phones/smartphones?

What have you done with your old cell phones (and by old, I don't mean one like 4-5 years ago or whatever). I mean if you recently upgraded and your "old" phone could still be considered a bit current.

I've seen sites where you can sell them, or some people go to Craigslist, dump them at some place like Best Buy. I saw that Amazon also offers credit or whatever. Some people donate them to battered women's shelters or given them to their kids, etc.

The wife and I are about to upgrade ours and they're about a year old.

Don't like the idea of dumping them in those bins at Best Buy 'cos I know they're gonna refurbish it and sell it or do something else to make money off of it.

I got the info I wanted off of it, deleted the rest and then put it in the e-waste bin. Of course, I only replace my phone about every 3-4 years so there pretty much isn't residual value for any subsequent user.

I sold my last iPhone on eBay and paid for about 75% of the new iPhone.

Battered women's shelters are the way to go! Its a good deed to women that need help!!!! That should be your first choice. The e-waste sites send it to dumps China and it poisons the adults & children over there! Some e-waste sites are pretty shady! There are a few documentaries out there about it. I suggest that everyone with a cell phone check it out!

In my case, I considered donating it, but my old phone was minimally functional when I decided to replace it. My current one is broken and held together by tape (ok, I'm rough on my phones, but it's 3 years old...) so this one will likely go e-waste as well.

I had a Blackberry Bold 9700 through AT&T. I went to a Verizon store, because they were the only ones that had the Motorola Droid Razor. A FREAKING AWESOME PHONE!!! They gave me $85 credit for the Blackberry, and I put it towards the purchase of the Motorola. But, in all honesty if I knew about the battered woman's shelter, I would have done that.

I've got a drawer with my old phones, don't have my first one, though. Interesting how technology that was cutting age 5 years ago now looks so ancient. Every time someone pulls out a flip phone I laugh and make dun of them.

I never sell my old tech, it never seems to pay enough to be worth it. I do like the women's shelter idea, though.
Gorge, guzzle and wench, for tomorrow we get gutted.
