30th Ann. SkyStriker fix-up

Although I was happy that Hasbro finally gave us a modern Skystriker, I really didn't like the light gray color (and black tail fins) it was molded in. I wanted something that was more in tune with the vintage one, so I gave it a few coats of dull primer white, then some sealer, applied the stickers, and here it is:




I also replaced the pack-in figure (he's in the custom fodder bin right now) with the Comic Pack Ace, seeing as he is the modern equivalent to the vintage figure:




There's still the issue about the single seat cockpit, but it's way too much work to turn it into a 2 seater, so this'll have to do. Anybody else make any mods to the SS?

That looks really good man! I suck at painting big time. I hated the plastic/color they used as well, but I dig the black tail fins - always felt like we were cheated they weren't black since i was a kid. Not sure whey they cheesed out on the single cockpit too, but it is what it is. Oh and these never appeared to sell well - at least in my area. Guess they gotta clearance them out pretty soon before the movie stuff hits...

Thanks. I think Hasbro decided to redo the SS with only one seat due to size/cost constraints. It's a whole new mold based on the vintage one, and it's slightly shorter. I'm still seeing a bunch of them around for full retail, and am really hoping they hit clearance. I'd pick up another (or maybe 2) if they get to under $20.

Ha...speak of the devil. They were $18.38 at Target this morninig. Not sure why they immediately went to 50% off but cool I guess. I'll probably wait for 70% off before I snag another or 2 to try and paint up.

Stickered - but I stopped by 2 other Targets over the weekend and no clearance. Odd because they usually always follow each other ...unlike WMs

Very true. the Target by my house, regular price. The one by my work, a mere 9 miles away, marked down 30% instead of the 50% I was hoping for. So, I'll sit back and wait a little longer before biting...

I wasted my Sunday looking for discounted Skystrikers. But Target had actually marked it up to $40.
