This weekend my wife and I had the pleasure of taking our daughter to see her first Star Wars film in theaters. Afterward we hung out to take pictures with the 501st, help build a Lego mural, played video games, and talked with fellow fans. One of my very best friends, who I just happened to meet 13 years ago while waiting in line at TRU for the Episode I Midnight Madness sale, came along with us as well. We had a blast.

We watched ROTJ when we got home and tonight we played some Lego Star Wars and made some snacks...

Maybe the Prequels aren't the greatest films in the world, but if you can check your cynicism at the door for a few hours, they really are a lot of fun. In the end, that's what Star Wars is all about, right?

All I know is we had amazing weekend that I'll never forget.

I can't wait till next year.
I thought I smelled bad on the outside...

Haha! I was thinking the same thing. I should have made the other cookies into Tatooine or something. I didn't think about it until they were already in the oven. The were still delicious, though!

It's a very solid number. It's only low for the fans who thought it would dominate the weekend box office - do $40-$50M on its way to a $100M run.

Coming in 4th and making over $20M is very respectable. Not sure what it cost to release. With as many ads as they ran, including a Super Bowl spot, it was probably not a small number. But 2-3 more weekends and strong overseas business should still mean plenty of profit.

I had a rather longish response countering you point by point, but I figured, what's the point?*

You obviously really hate the PT and most of the changes in the OT. Totally fine by me. I'll give you that George was far from perfect with the PT and I could have done without a number of the changes in the OT.

Fact is that at the end of the day, I respect the guy for his total body of work, not to mention the advances he has made in the industry. I think your disdain for him is totally uncalled for as well as your insults to fans that do like the PT and don't bang their fists in rage every time he makes a change to the OT.

It's a debate that will never end. Understand this though, you and I would not even be having this conversation about it if it weren't for GL. And if I ever have the pleasure of meeting him, I'd have two words for him...THANK YOU.

I know it's not remastered, but...

*I wanted to see how many times I could say "point" in one sentence.

**Do you really, really " HATE the prequels"??

Honestly, I am glad people are having fun with the PT if that's their thing, but please don't think it's cynicism that keeps us from liking it. I know from those I have talked to it's far from that! If you find something painful to watch, that's not cynicism, that's seeing it as a bad film that you can't watch. In fact, most of us are eager to like it but just can't. Our reasons are heartfelt and honest and have nothing to do with being cynical. Any cynicism I feel is directed more at all the talk around the prequels by the creator himself and the going back and messing with the OT.

Oh I don't and never have. The part you quoted was referring to the changes in the OT to make the PT fit in better, nothing more.

As for whether or not I really HATE the prequels? I think that one's a pretty obvious and definite yes. I get disgusted whenever I see them on TV and can't change the channel quick enough. I get disgusted when I see Hayden Christensen and Naboo in ROTJ. And I get sad when I see the new Emperor scene in ESB. So yeah. I HATE the prequels.

I've been hoping I could introduce my daughter to Star Wars on the big screen, so the timing was perfect. We had a great time, and it was cute to hear her talk about 'Dark Maul' and the really cool 'truck race'.

Oh... and she's been going around all weekend saying 'How wude!' in her best JarJar voice.

I went to see it to support the release of the other movies and because, duh it's Star Wars. The 3D was just as useless as in every other 3D movie besides Avatar, but I don't mind. I have to admit, watching it again, I think I've finally come to terms with TPM, it didn't feel as bad as I really thought it was, Jar Jar aside.
    Currently Wanted Characters:
