AND this is why I think the way GG is handling this PGM auto renew thing is just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! There is just way too much potential to screw people up who aren't aware of the impending charge. I can think of dozens of ways this would mess with my finances if I got charged even $20 without my knowledge or consent, let alone $70! Not to mention the fact that even if I DID have the funds, that it wasn't reserved for something else, maybe I had need of that money the very next day to pay for something like a birthday party or some other time specific event. But if GG took (yes I purposefully used the word TOOK since that's the way I see it) my money and now I am screwed, because I needed those funds the next day, not whenever the refund process goes through.
I don't actually have a single credit card any more, and even when I did, I tried very hard not to use them on any of my collecting. All my collecting expenses come from my paypal balance, which is built up from buying and selling other collectibles. The issue for me personally (and I bet other have it still do have it set up this way) was that up until recently my paypal account was connected to my checking account AND my debit card that drew it's funds from my checking account. So I had to make sure when I was buying ANY collectible that I had enough funds in my paypal balance to assure no money would ever get drawn from my the family finances. Now I have my paypal account connected to a separate checking account from my families.
The bottom line is GG is making a HUGE assumption that everyone will SEE this email announcement in advance AND have the money available with only a 2 day heads up, which is obviously not the case after reading all the posts of folks not getting the email! And seeing as GG has repeatedly claimed that the number of folks who post to this and other collecting boards make up such a small percentage of their customer base, I can only imagine how many people did not get the email and are completely unaware of the impending auto-renew charge that they are going to get hit with today since they don't frequent these boards or FB, or Twitter!!!

You make very good points. The point I would like to make here is that GG made a fundamental un-American mistake. They took away the freedom of choice for their customers to join or not to join their Club. The idea that every year I can look over the offerings and decide by some point in time to either join or ignore the offer is a free market principal that we are all used to. We can then decide when we have the finances and if their offerings are worthy to exchange for our hard earned cash. I understand the GG makes nice busts and produces other nice products but their business sense is out of touch with how most American companies are run.
Forcing customers to do something at a companies discretion is wrong. Of course companies would like everyone to pony up at once so you could determine demand and have funds to finance the busts being manufactured in advance without resorting to credit and financing charges to keep costs down and a healthy profit. People know instinctively what is going on here is wrong for numerous reasons.
What is funny for me is that my points above are valid for many but I really don't care because the 5 choices they have are really nice and I would have rejoined the first day the 2012 memberships were available regardless of their business practices... but I hear what the rest of you are saying.

Interestingly enough none of the scenarios I pointed out actually reflect my current personal or financial situations, I have the funds and saw the email, but I still opted out because MasterX is SPOT ON, I don't like the concept of them making this decision for me. I also have issues with this situation based on principal alone, GG is making some huge assumptions and seem to not be concerned about the possible ramifications it might have to someones finances if they don't see the email and get a surprise charge, simply refunding someone when the possibility of needing the money elsewhere right away is of NO help since refunds take time.
Bottom line, too many people these days are financially strapped and have to stick to a VERY strict budget to get by and may have quit collecting altogether within the last year, or only buy when they can, so this might really hurt someone if they are caught unaware.
It's called a debit card. Really cool thing actually. It's like a credit card, but it's linked to your bank account. Instead of being charged interest, I actually gain interest albiet at a very tiny rate, but it equates to $20-$30 a year I get back. I try not to use credit for collectibles, as I would get in big trouble real quick doing that.
I agree that GG should not be charging/withdrawing from peoples accounts without their premission. I always like to see what they have to offer for the PGM's, then decide if I renew or not. I did send an email saying that I want to opt out and got a response. Not sure if I like the new choices. I personally do not like how they have run or are currently run the PGM.
I don't care about the LOTR bust, the 12" figure, imo they stink at human likeness so that's an easy pass for me and as far as the other two piece, maybe.

I did receive an email from Rich yesterday stating I had been opted out for auto renewal. Two hours later, I received an email from Jewell stating that my auto renewal would process today. I am assuming this is the email I should have received earlier. Hopefully I am still set to not auto renew.
