This has quickly gone from discussing price and how it effects collecting to the merits of AFA. If you don't like AFA, then stay out - it's not like you're going to convince people here to stop using them with some previously unknown knowledge. None of the arguements against AFA presented here are anything new or are topics that haven't been beaten to death already.

Hmmmm,,,,, why would AFA companies cease to exist? Coins are graded and put in cases/slabs etc, and the groups that do it, are they not operating to this day?

AFA grading since it is around, is the best way IMO to further this hobby, protect it, and promote it. I had Star Wars as a young man. Decades went by before i even looked at the vintage items, thanks to a long time friend who has his out the box, and my liking Hoth scenes, and my like of Taun Tauns... To me, I want to do what i can to preserve the toy, the packaging and whatever else as time marches onward.

Again, bottomline, AFA is really the only way to go. I was not aware of this option until i digged deeper into vintage SW, and at first i was going to get items as best of condition as i could. then i noted this debate on the Net regarding AFA versus non-AFA.

Once i saw these vintage toys of my young manhood could be preserved in cases, be put in a catalog, recorded and receive a grade, i felt strongly this was a way to support and preserve the hobby for the decades to come.

He will probably still collect, but all the meaning will be lost ... dont you realize the toy inside the case is secondary ? It's all about the grade & the fancy case.

Just checked their site ... guess what ... They do ...

This thread seems to be rapidly moving away from its intended topic, so let keep discussion on topic and in a civilized manner. Hansoldbuddy, you clearly have very strong feelings towards AFA, which is completely within your rights, however please keep in mind that this section is designed to give AFA graded collectors a place to discuss AFA topics.

    Thanks,
    Mike

thats what i basically indicated in my previous post

    Very true
if people want to submit their treasures to companies who have neither invested money to produce or to purchace these items, but soley request a fee for their opinion and a plastic case, then that is their right.

    My apologies

You've made whatever condescending point you wanted to make multiple times now. Give it a rest.

I've already made my apologies, of my comments ... that struck some nerves

Good luck with the grading & I certainly hope the bottom doesnt fall out, like all the others did, due to initial hype :-)

If you feel you need to have the last word ... post again

    Again, enjoy the hobby

I mean, I dont know how much more sincere i can get with you

Like I said before, I have some graded sportscards
I enjoy looking at my Marino & Elway BGS 9.5 rookie cards that I bought for about $300 each ...
... hate to be one of the guys shelling out $1,000's the first few years due to the low pop reports ...

Goodbye AFA forum ... shall not see me return

When you come back to say the same thing 4 times, pretending to apologize and then just go ahead and do it again negating your phony apology...well its not very Message board kosher ill say. Anyway...

Yes, exactly u got it. And again, AFA grading, is here to stay, and i feel strongly that it is going to go a long way to protecting vintage SW,,, in fact many vintage toys will get taken care of for decades to come.

Seeing that i am not a dealer, not an investment, nor a speculator, i see the value in paying up for AFA graded SW. Are there dealers with huge prices. Sure are, i see it all the time with my eyes on Ebay. Thats why I have found this board to be helpful, I have bought many times from Aaron, AKA Miss the 80s, his prices are reasonable, and theres a few others on Ebay who are also fair in their pricing.

Furthermore, i been in many hobbies, and for taking care of whatever it is, from model Roco Mini-Tanks, sports cards, HO train sets, coins,,,, if there are cases they can be put in to preserve and or grade, you bet ima do it.
