Update from the EFX webside:

UPDATE FEBRUARY 6, 2011: WE HAD PRODUCED OUR FIRST SHIPMENT OF THE X-WING HELMETS, BUT UPON INSPECTION, WE WERE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE VACUUM FORMED VISOR (WHICH IS THE WAY THEY WERE MADE FOR THE ACTUAL PROP.) IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE VENDOR TO CLEANLY TRIM THEM WITHOUT RESULTING IN A POSSIBLE SHARP EDGE. WE HAVE THEREFORE DECIDED TO MAKE AN INJECTION MOLD FOR THE VISOR. THE NEW MOLD WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 4-6 WEEKS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE FACTORIES ARE CLOSED FOR THE CHINESE NEW YEARS HOLIDAY. WE WILL UPDATE THE SCHEDULE UPON THEIR RETURN.

Here is a picture of the ANH X-wing helmet and the ESB X-wing helmet. As you can see, they ran into the same "sharp edge" issue. They actually added a pad in the nose area for Mark on the ESB Helmet. I am assuming because of the edge of the visor was uncomfortable!

The first production samples we reviewed were OK. But as you know, making 100's versus 1 or 2 is quite different!

Not to be overly critical, but if there is a nose pad on the one used in TESB, then why not simply use a nose pad on this one instead of going back and reproducing them differently? It would be more screen accurate.

It is because it can be sharp all around the perimeter. The little nose pad on the Mark's helmet was just a "quick fix" for filming. Also, remember, with the ANH version, there is no pad!

It would be cool to see a nose pad on it. Just for accuracy's sake. Unless it was just put there, and not actually attached to the visor...
