Last Crusade Tank - Version 3

    Last Crusade Tank Version III

It may be stupid to have made another one of these tanks...but I had an idea on how to make a few upgrades to my previous versions. The crazy thing is that I may yet make another for myself, incorporating a few of Dark_Horse's ideas from his super duper tank.

What ideas would I add? The main on was creating moveable sponson (side) guns. I did this by mimicking how the guns actually worked in the movie (the curved shape was achieved by using thin strips built up along a curved base, then wrapping this in super thin styrene to get a smooth exterior finish).

I used the same basic dimensions as my second tank, but engineered my own hinge for the turret hatch (I used twist ties on the last tank...very clunky and ineffective).

The overall profile came out a tad bit stubbier than I would have liked. The fourth version will no doubt be a bit more elongated if I ever get around to making it.

The Interior will probably look familiar, since it is very similar to what I made for the second tank (with a few tweaks here and there).

    Some scale and fun pics:

Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.

Glorbes, this is without any exaggeration or hyperbole, one of the best customs of any kind I have ever seen in my fifteen years of collecting.

Easily in the two or three custom vehicles of all time. Just astounding on every level. And, yes, even better than a "real" Hasbro version would have undoubtedly looked.

Thank you so much for this extraordinary piece of art. Holy motherloving crap this is sweet.

One of the most incredible scrathbuilt things I've ever seen. And it's an Indy vehicle, as if the simple fact that it's a great custom tank on its own wasn't impressive enough. The detail is nothing short of amazing, all the rivets, the bedroll etc., great painting, AND the thing has an interior?!?!?! Holy. Crap. Beautiful work!

Just noticed the curved slot for the shovel. My God, man. My God.
Edit: Should have been plural...slots...shovels..on BOTH side of the turret. Every time I look I see something new and amazing.

How long did this take to build?

You're an inspiration- I've been wanting to scratch build a vehicle custom from plasticard, but didn't know what- now I do. Come payday, I'm buying up a couple packs of the long sheets.
BTW, there used to be another Indy scratch build that someone did of the Flying Wing- anyone know what happened to that? I'd sure like to study those pics as well.

Just under a month or so, picking away at it in the evening. It helps that I've made this same basic model a few times before, so I know how to assemble the basic structure very quickly.

Outstanding stuff as usual, mate. I love your rivets.

If you like, I can give you the dimensions of the real tank in 1:18 scale. I still have them somewhere. It took me the longest time during my build to do the diagrams and get every profile right.
