Not surprising in the least. She has talked at length about that period of her life, and she's never been shy about admitting her drug use.
I could crack a joke or two about this during her Empire filming, but I have a good deal of respect for her and as mentioned, her drug habit isn't no secret. I will say her stint for Under The Rainbow the following year wasn't exactly a highlight for her career during that time.

Yea, old news. Also, a few years back wasn't there something about her spilling the beans on a fling with a certain co-star? Not naming names, just in case I'm mistaken.Originally Posted by Jorbex

I thought she was into it as far back as ANH as well?
"You came in that thing, you're braver than I thought"
I always thought she sounded like she was strung out when she delivered that line.
Not that it makes any difference to me.

It doesnt make me enjoy the film any less, but I'd rather not know about stuff like this :/
I wish Carrie could class it up a little bit.
Anyone hear her Jabba [censored] bit at CV?
May the Force be with you. Always. (But only if you have enough midichlorians.)

Ya maybe they should've given drugs to all the main actors in the prequels...it certainly couldn't have been any worse.![]()

...from Carrie Fisher's blog titled "In a nostril far, far away":
"While filming Empire, four thousand seventy eight years ago, one of my co-stars-(by co-stars I don’t mean Harrison or Mark, but someone slightly lower on the costar pole)- approached me saying “you know the girl that’s your stand in, Liz Coke? Well, she’s not called Liz Coke for nothing!
Seeing as how we were on a planet resembling the substance on offer, this information struck a truant chord with me. So I admit it- yes- I availed myself of Liz’s stash. I did not make a habit of this- & it’s not something I recommend or am proud of. It was available, I was incorrigible & an aspect of it might have been somehow inevitable.
So, a long time ago, in a nostril far far away, I ventured outside the perimeters of the appropriate by inhaling a substance that would render me less than professional by abusing the privilege of playing the powerful space princess that I had been given."
Carrie has been really open about her drug use in the past, and about how her addiction was later diagnosed as basically "self medicating" her bipolar disorder, or as she called it "putting the monster back in the box". If you read her book "Wishful Drinking" (which has some pretty funny "Star Wars" stories) you would understand.
