    BLUE RAY CANTINA RESTORATION!!!

How many are in favor of "The Maker" restoring the CORRECT cantina scene and having Han fire that blaster into poor unsuspecting Greedo? The revision that GL made weakens the character of Han. We see that blast under the table as the first building block that the guy is a rogue.

    YOUR THOUGHTS?

Please oh please oh please, GL..DO THE RIGHT THING!!!
We ALL know Han fired first.

    I'm in favour of that!

Also, it's REALLY nice to hear about the deleted scenes

If he does, I want the uncensored shots of Luke/Han shooting at the Imperials aboard the DS restored as well. Those maybe just split second edits, but if George is going to give back Han his deserved status, then George is going to drop the censorship throughout the rest of the film as well.

Absolutely. Not only for characterization reasons but because the editing job in the "special" edition is embarrassingly bad.

On top of that, they need to re-insert Shaw in Return of the Jedi. Taking him out not only makes for a bizarre sequence, but it tramples on the work of the original actor.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Jabba sequence removed from Star War either as it ruins the introduction of the Falcon, retreads dialogue that the viewer just heard in the Greedo scene and is another sloppy edit (Han stepping on Jabba's tail not only looks stupid but I don't think a guy who feeds slave dancers to rancor monsters would let that one slip, especially in regards to a guy who already owes him money).

The "Jedi Rock" bit in Jabba's Palace is also horribly out of place as is the random insertion of Darth Vader landing on his star destroyer (er...Death Star?) in Empire.

Most of the changes that weren't simply updating effects were bad decisions.

    Sorry, but... bad news
    Very very bad news:

    </font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Mr. Lucas said the versions of the first three “Star Wars” films – “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” – included in the Blu-ray boxed set will be the special-edition releases that were shown theatrically in 1997 and digitally restored for a 2004 standard-definition DVD boxed set.

Perhaps bracing for the reactions of fans who decried some of the changes made to the special-edition films – like, say, an exchange of gunfire between Han Solo and a certain green-skinned bounty hunter – Mr. Lucas said that to release the original versions of these films on Blu-ray was “kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good.”

“You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally,” he added. “It’s a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version.”

    I'm with you too.

It's clear that Lucas is never going to undo any of the changes. I've got to find a way to splice in footage from my laser discs along with the special edition footage I do like (expanded Bespin shots, the redone first death star battle), but keep all the cool DVD menus and stuff. Wish I knew how to do that.

I just hate that I have to buy all 6 movies on blu-ray. I only want the original trilogy.

I thought this meant George would be fixing the Han/Greedo scene.

I'm okay with the upgraded versions (e.g., rotoscoped sabers, misc. background characters in CGI), it's the new scenes that I don't really care for. Remove them, restore and digitize the original scenes (Han shooting first, Lapti Nek), and call it done.
