The period between the film's release and Christmas pretty much defines the success of the toy line, not the month before. I know you're new to the hobby, so I will elaborate... Transformers in 2007 was WILDLY popular with both adults and children. So finding movie characters on the shelves in the months following July and leading up to Christmas was rare and there was a retail flurry of collectors buying up all the awesome new Transformers and parents stocking up on Bumblebees and Priumes for Christmas, and picking up whatever was left when Bee and Prime were no where to be found. Rarely were the pegs and shelves stocked in any retail outlet during these months because the line sold extremely well up until Christmas, when the hype finally died an the awful Allspark line began.

So the September-December timeframe would actually be the defining period of Transformers' movability. And there was not a film-style yellow-green Ratchet to be found (since he never shipped again).
No it actually wouldn't only classify as a shelf warmer if it were still there in December. If Target #1 near my house had 35 Ratchet's and 20 of them sat on the shelves from movie release until August it's a shelf warmer, period. Just because you decided not to buy anything until December isn't my fault, it's yours.

I'm curious why you continue to be a [censored] with the "I know you're new" idiotic comments. Son, you have no clue how long I've been collecting Transformers. Just because I don't rush out and buy every single figure like you do doesn't mean jack [censored] when it comes to being a fan/collector so save your self righteousness for someone who cares.

Actually I was waiting for the Best Buy Metallic ratchet repaint, but I missed out, so I ended up trying to track down Ratchet late in the game, and never saw one at retail again. Because he was the opposite of a shelf warmer. In that same time period, I was able to find every single Voyager released BUT him at retail. Ironhide, Blackout, Starscream, Megatron, and even Prime. But Ratchet was hands down the rarest Voyager in the line, due to his repaint coming out and taking his place.

If your Target had 35 Ratchets and 20 of them warmed, then that makes sense. Not to mention that ONE Target store moving 35 Ratchets in 2 1/2 months (1 1/2 of those months bein PRIOR to the films release) is actually very very good. 35 is a lot of Voyagers of one character to sell within that timeframe. Especially considering the line's sales didn't pick up until after 7/4/07.

The movie toyline wasn't "established" until the movie came out, and was considered a hit. That's when relecutant fans (like me) decided it was cool, and when kids saw the film and began asking for the toys, and parents starting loading up for Christmas, and scalpers started hoarding Primes and Bees.

Most of the line warmed until mid-July. Not just Ratchet.

And I talk to you like that because it's very obvious due to your lack of knowledge that you're new to collecting the line (at least the movie line). Had you been collecting this line 2 years ago, you would know that ratchet was nevr a shelf warmer, and how rediculous that sounds. Even now, he moves more quickly than Prime and Ironhide.

Says the guy who didn't buy any of the movie figures until six months later.... Nevermind that I'm willing to bet I had every screen character well before you ever decided it was "cool" to buy them.

Just because backwards Southern Maryland had horrible distribution doesn't make your vision of Ratchet's rarity gospel. Just like my inability to find Voyager Megatron in six different stores doesn't automatically wipe out your claim he was a shelf warmer.

    Could you be any thicker?

I didn't wait 6 months to buy the toys... I waited 3 months to buy Ratchet, mostly because of the rumored premium version that never came to my area.
And yeah, Maryland is backwards and rediculous. Glad I'm not the one of us that calls it home! But during that time period I also traveled to several other cities, and 2 other states. None of this geography changed the fact that Ratchet was no longer shipping due to his repaint release clogging the shelves. And again, he was nowhere to be found because he only shipped in May through July.

Seriously... you had one Target in your area with Ratchets. So now you decree him a national shelf warmer. Even now he's selling well, better than most other Voyagers, because he was rare. The fact that your Target over stocked the assortment (and I'd put my paycheck on the fact that to you, "35 Ratchets" really means 2 or 3), doesn't mean that he warmed anywhere else. So, the options are either you're too stubborn to just admit you are wrong and have gone too far into this pointless argument that there's no turning back, or you weren't even paying attention to the shelves back then because you weren't participating in the collecting of the line to begin with. You probably just saw a couple Ratchets in June before the film even came out when you were lurking Target for Star Wars figures everyday.

Last time I checked Fairfax wasn't part of Maryland. Perhaps you need geography lessons now.

Just as I thought, you need reading comprehension classes. I said IF Target #1 has 35 Ratchets. I imagine the word 'example' is foreign to you so perhaps you should look it up, and or go back and read -slower this time- what I initially said. Clearly you missed/ignored (my money is on ignored) the part where I gave you specific numbers of stores in a 20 mile radius of my location.
