Digital yoda in Phantom menace?

so what if Yoda was fat in EP1? He was eatin good at the temple and everywhere in Coruscant. Wouldn't you? After dagobah though, his diet would never be the same.

Got nothing to do with whether he was fat or not... TPM Puppet Yoda looks nothing like OT Yoda. As in, not the same person at all. With humans, in situations like this, there's very little to do to avoid it. George couldn't get Young Alec Guinness to play Padawan Obi-Wan (thankfully!). And with humans, we buy it. We understand it. People grow & change in funny ways, so get someone that reasonably has the right look and can nail the part, and we'll ignore glaring--but minor--physical differences. If it's plausible that Yound Guy can grow into Old Guy, that's good enough.

But Yoda's not human, he was a PUPPET. There was no excuse for NOT having "Yoda" there. Digital Yoda, he fits more into the "Ewan" mold... he may not be exact, but he's certainly close enough and plausible at growing into the crazy old elf we first met in 1980. I can buy that Digital Yoda becomes Old Puppet Yoda. But TPM Yoda... that's like casting Hayden Christiansen as Young Obi-Wan Kenobi. Then having MacGregor dub the lines, or cobble them together from old Alec Guinness recordings.

What Toonimator is rambling about (how unexpected) is that Episode 1 Yoda didn't match up to the OT and the CGI one was close enough. I'd agree.

The CGI Yoda would match better with Episode 2 even with the 10 yrs difference in the stories.

They really need to include a CGI Yoda in TPM.
That TPM puppet isn't a very good one, IMO.

The whole thing belongs to Lucas - it's all up to him.
I think we will see a CGI Yoda in TPM and it wouldn't surprise me if TPM gets a CG overhaul at some point.

Why? He seems to be in favor of constantly redoing stuff even if there's no particular reason to do so. Or I suppose I'm missing a joke/sarcasm.

It has already happened. ILM did this as a test for the Yoda model for ROTS. Rob Coleman even confirmed it. A part of one of the council scenes with the new TPM digital Yoda is in one of the docs/featurettes of the ROTS dvd.

The new CG Yoda isn't gonna be on TPM in the recently released PT box set though. My guess is we won't see that or any other changes Lucas has made to the saga after the initial dvd's were released until either the 3-D films and/or the definitive collection is released.
