    OT: Marty McFly\'s BTTF Skateboard

Maybe some of you guys can chime in with a little info about this item. This is the Valterra "Splatter" skateboard, the same model as Marty McFly's skateboard that he used in Back to the Future. I was given this in 1985, messed around with it a little bit, and then it pretty much stayed quiet in my mom's basement for the last 22 years or so. Since I basically know nothing about skateboards (or BTTF stuff, for that matter), I was wondering if anyone here would know what the demand is for something like this. I understand that it's a relatively low-end board itself, but it's the model that was used in the film. There are a few minor differences from the onscreen prop-- obviously the big gray sticker ontop wasn't used on the movie skateboard, and the wheels on the movie board are yellow. Marty also had a few stickers added to his particular board as well.

I found surprisingly little information about this piece online-- even a Google image search doesn't really come up with any good pictures of it. There was some info on the BTTF.com forums, but it was five years old or so, and didn't help much (basically, they agreed it was a tough item to find and recommended customizing one instead of trying to find one, but that's about all I took away from it).

It still has the original "As Seen In... Back to the Future" sticker on top, and everything else is original. Any feedback would be appreicated. These are some pics from today-- first time it's seen the light of day in more than 20 years.

You might want to check this site:

There should be some links to other sites as well.

    Good luck.

    Dave,

It's in great condition for its age. There is plenty of interest in 80's skateboard collectables(the sickest era of skating!) I hav'nt a value for it but there a plenty of big collections out there, so im sure there would be some interest

You'd probably get more money for it if you got a hover conversion.

I think this would appeal to Back to the Future fans big time good luck if you decide to part with it. I wouldn't mind it myself as a cool conversation piece.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I've researched the BTTF forums, but not much turned up (a thread from five years ago was pretty helpful, but not much since then-- subsequent threads referred back to that older thread, even one from late last year). I've sometimes read better OT answers on RS than in dedicated forums for the piece in question.

Here's a picture from the movie:

Other than the yellow wheels and the sticker on top of the board behind his left foot (sticker says "Madrid"), the boards are the same. That hover conversion would be cool, but I think I'm stuck with what I"ve got.

I wanted that skateboard SOOOOOOOO badly after I saw Back to the Future.

I remember seeing them at 'Venture' stores.

They had the same color wheels you have on yours. But that's the ONLY reason I didn't buy one.

I was hoping to find one with the correct yellow wheels, but had no luck & they eventually disappeared from the shelves.

That's still a pretty cool collectible for Back to the Future fans.

I knew that there was a collectors market for 80s decks, but WOW. I didn't expect some of the prices I read on that site. Once again it makes sense, since they were created to be riden and destroyed, not as collectables, that now that people are viewing them as collectables, finding some nice mint NOS pieces command a premium.
I read a 4 page thread on someone that had a vint Gonz deck and that caught my interest. Esp since I destroyed way too many Vision Gonz & street decks in the 80s....
Now I'm tempted to raid my moms house and see if I can find any decks that survived. I know that there's a cracked orig SMA Natas still on the wall in my old bedroom.

Sorry I never had any Back to the Future boards tho.
(just to bring it on topic)
