    My Apartment

Well I was going to install some halogens with a dimmer switch into my bookcases for my collection when...I stepped in front of my bookcases to remove my props, I felt water beneathe my feet. Yep, my carpet was soaked. Turns out there is a broken water pipe that had broke that the plummer did not tell me about. I now have mold, water damaged brand new ikea bookcases, and some photos to document. By the way, these apartments are 3 months old!

I'd be calling someone about replacing my cabinets from the water damage since it wasn't your fault.

Sorry to here about that bad situation. Try to dry up those walls some how, you dont want to breathe in that mold. Hope the insurance will cover this.

Mold is serious and can cause a variety of health problems. That needs to be professionally abated. Imagine what it looks like under the carpet.

Well they told me that they wont replcae my bookshelves, because that is what renters insurance is for. They have a fan drying out my carpet that needs to stay on all night.

They said that they would compensate me by taking off of my rent for the next month.

Man that stinks. I would definately be contacting a lawyer about that. One month's rent is not equal to all the mold that could be behind that drywall. Even if you dry up the wall and carpet it will still be there. Mold is a dangerous thing. I would say that you would have a very good chance of winning since they didn't disclose it to you when you moved in. Hope everything works out for you.

I had the same thing happen to me in an apartment, if you don't have renters insurance you are SOL. I am sure your lease states that you must have renters insurance or they are not liable for any damage....it is very cheap, think you may want to check into it, you got lucky this time.
Belive me i learned the hard way.

Yep, they did disclose that with me. But, they gave me an 150 dollar Chase spending card.
