    Is it just me or do the mandibles seem to close together even assuming they have some sort of shipping container between them?

    You're right. 75105 had a 6 stud wide slope at the front of the gap.

    I wonder if this build will allow for "special modifications" to approximate the later look of the ship.

    The cargo module actually seems to attach at the 1x2 blue tiles, which would make the mandibles the same length.
