Creative Ideas is one thing, i think he wanted to continue the mantra of American Zoetrope with the later SW films, but he definitely had final say -- especially after being smacked down from the studios time and time again.

What we were talking about was Directors and there ability to change things outside of the people calling the shots above them and Irvin Kershner did all kinds of things that Lucas did not like or want. Lucas stated that fact many times when speaking about ESB and the Director. He also stated Kershner made a better film than his. Kirsher also let the cast change dialog and make some creative decisions. That is not Lucas controlling everything. I will say his next Director for Jedi was hired in my opinion so Lucas could dominate. He learned his lesson fast.

As I said in my previous post: "Creative ideas are one thing". Creative direction, however, is another. Changing some lines of dialogue to suit your actors isn't GL controlling everything -- it's movie making. Show me a movie in the history of movies that hasn't done that. GL was entirely responsible for making the movie -- ie: overseeing its entire production. Pre-production, filming, SFX, Post production, publicity - everything. If the Director wanted to change a few things or has some good ideas, it benefits the project. I stand by the fact that the buck stopped with GL for ESB - how could it not? I also stand by the fact that neither of us were there in person, so continuing to argue over this in any more detail is nothing but an exercise in futility.

But, I also note that the tone in your above post has changed a bit since the other one you made, this one:

Again I will state that changing lines of dialogue is not going "in all kinds of creative and new directions with no problems at all". This also contradicts your above point re: ROTJ "I will say his next Director for Jedi was hired in my opinion so Lucas could dominate. He learned his lesson fast."

    Spoilers below...............

    My thoughts on TLJ:

I thought TFA was fun. Loved seeing Han as his old self. Thought the story was just okay and too familiar (obviously), but I liked the new characters and was curious to see which direction the trilogy would go.

Rogue One was just a bore. I find it baffling that so many people love this movie. The characters were bland, and the story was inherently flawed due to its predictability. However, this was when it became super obvious that Disney is mis-handling Star Wars. They are far, far more interested in shoving as many characters as they can into a movie in order to sell more action figures than they are developing characters of just a few main protagonists. I won't talk about it here, but the movies are getting super political.. ugh.

Then came The Last Jedi. Honestly, I enjoyed most of it. I thought the entire part with the casino and horse racing was super boring. First of all, Star Wars is popular because the audience wants to be taken into another world. It was originally advertised as "unlike anything in your galaxy." Casinos and horse races do not belong in Star Wars. Period. This is lazy and stupid. It should have been axed before it ever made it to the storyboards. On top of that, the whole Finn and Rose relationship was not done well. I was just bored.

Other than that, I did enjoy most of the Rey and Luke scenes. Poe was mostly fun to watch. Leia was acceptable. The Rey / Kylo part was really fun. I liked the fact that Luke sacrificed himself to save others. Very good idea, but I would have much preferred an actual confrontation with Kylo.

When it appeared that Kylo and Rey would join forces, the audience went nuts. Honestly, Disney should have kept it this way. I think they should have ended the movie with Kylo and Rey teaming up.... but here's the catch, we don't know whether or not she is leaning to the dark side or if Kylo is turning to the light side. That would have been a great ending, and it would have left us with a lot to talk about until ep 9.

Instead, the movie ends with just about all loose ends tied up. There's almost nothing to discuss. It's like Rian Johnson thought he was directing the final chapter of a trilogy.

Overall, I can't say I like the direction Disney is going with Star Wars. We never got to see our 3 childhood heroes together again, and now we never will.

Also, ADMIRAL ACKBAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE TO CRASH HIS SHIP AND SACRIFICE HIMSELF. Seriously. His death was a complete waste. He's one of the few remaining OT characters we have and this is how they treat him. Disney should be charged with a crime for this. That new admiral lady was a moron anyway.

    Anyway, here's the new order:

    V
    IV
    VI
    VII
    VIII
    R1
    Ewok Adventures
    Christmas Special
    III
    I

Yeah I admit I’m probably in the minority with that but I just love Jabba’s palace, Endor and the final dual in the Emperor’s thrown room on the Death Star. It’s the only one I never get tired of watching

I dont think Disney will run it into the ground, this is the future of Star Wars and just as Mr Lucas did an excellent job at the start (and he had doubters when he started, who would have thought a space battle would be interesting), Rian Johnson is going to do really well with future SW movies. This is the future and Star Wars is in excellent hands. The Last Jedi has been a hit with fans and as more fans watch it, they will absorb its meaning for the franchise going forward.

Star Wars is in great shape going forward.
