I'm sure I have that name wrong (maybe way, way off), but roughly 10 years ago, someone with a name like that (I think) turned up on ebay - it turns out, he had a newly opened box of nothing but minty-mint POTF bens with crystal clear bubbles, and he was just selling them on ebay. I think someone must have told him how valuable that box was, because he disappeared not long after (from ebay, anyway). But, not before I managed to buy up at least 3. (I have 5 or 6 (or 7?) potf bens, but I think only 3 or 4 of them came from him.) Anyway, I sent them off to AFA, and ALL of them came back as 90s. Going through my stuff lately, I am a bit sad to discover that they seem to have started yellowing. I think one may still qualify as clear, but the rest have all yellowed (though only faintly.)

Well, just reminiscing, but also wondering if anyone else remembers that, or got any of those.

AFA return shipping rates?

Well, I have never submitted a whole lot to AFA - it tends to be sporadic - and it has been a few years since my last submission.

Well, I have never submitted a whole lot to AFA - it tends to be sporadic - and it has been a few years since my last submission.

I have a couple of sealed cases of modern figures (16/case) that I want to have graded. I see that grading costs have increased yet again, which can be expected, but I am baffled on the return shipping. According to their website, it would be $13 for the first figure and $5 per additional. So for 32 figures total, that comes to a whopping $152.50. I have submitted entire cases before and the costs at the time were nowhere near that!

My question is, are these published rates correct? If I submit a large quantity of 30+, is there any sort of break on shipping? I know grading has never been "cheap", per se, but this seems a little off...especially given how the company has a less-than-perfect rep these days? :|

Thanks in advance for your help!

According to the AFA website, items can now be graded with a "+" if they are considered to be at the high end of their grade. But I have never seen one of these in the wild. Are these done with vintage carded star wars, or only with loose or modern or something?

It's kind of annoying - it effectively makes all AFA, say, 80's suddenly a lesser grade then they used to be, because people might interpret the lack of a "+" to mean the item is at the lower end of its grade, when all it really means is that the item was graded before the "+" grades were used.

Thought I'd start a thread for fellow AFA eBay scouts to discuss what seems to be the closing of the gap between pricing on the 80s and 85 recently. All prices are way up across the board, but 80s really seem to be gaining traction from the huge spike in 85 prices, seems many (me as well) are adjusting our expectations to our wallets a bit, and that's bringing up prices for lower grade stuff as well.

Also, does a DT Luke HAVE to have outside authentication?
Their website makes my head hurt!

Why does UKG grade things so high? I just received a UKG proof card that was given an 85. It has a decent bend in the corner and I know it would be lucky to get an 80 from AFA. This is my second UKG graded item and I feel both of them would have scored lower if they were sent to AFA. It really turns me off to UKG. I guess I shouldn't have assumed that it would be in better shape. I got the impression that they were a decent competitor to AFA. I'm beginning to understand why they are not very popular here in the states. Any thoughts? Anyone else feel the same way? Or am I off?

I recently purchased this loose Boba AFA 75U and wonder if anyone can tell me any more about him.
He appears to have a dark torso and right leg and the rest of him is light grey/blue???
And a noob question...what determines his archival grading?
Cheers
