Hi everyone! I know that this thread may seam just "another cantina thread" but this basically my very first diorama experience ever. I just recently discovered this hobby for me an this forum and was impressed by the skill and creativity of diorama builders (especially Diago-Bah) hat I decided to try and make a longwanted my favorite SW scene.

I basicaly followed Diago-Bah's cantina instructions as well as other cantinas I googled. So it's full of others solutions and I cannot say if I've done anything special here. Cantina turned out pretty standart and due to lack of my experience maybe not very movie accurate, but i'll sure continue work on it as well as on others from now on

Cantina itself is foamcore with a plaster. I still have to make lights on the tables and the lights over the bar, hope I'll have time to do it till the end of this month. This is my first project so I will really appriciate any kind of comments.

After working on a small diorama base I thought I was finished painting it but after one coat of Testor's Dull-Cote I decided to add a bit more of one color to the rock base. So after that dried I added another dull coat. The next day I dry-brushed on a bit more color to a few tiny areas and then added another dull coating. An hour later I noticed a satin (near gloss) type sheen on the rocks. Not good.
I needed to find out why, so I took a piece of plastic and painted two similar paint swatch circles with flat gray paint. I sprayed a layer of Dull-Cote and let it dry. A few hours later I covered up the gray swatch on the right side of the plastic and sprayed Dull-Cote on the swatch on the left. Two hours later I compared the side-by-side swatches and they looked identical. So I covered up the right side again and proceeded to coat the left side swatch a third time. An hour later I compared and now noticed a faint gloss sheen and faint dried liquid spotting on the left side gray swatch.
Lesson learned. No more than 2 coats of Dull-Cote on any painted project!

Now to the dilemma of my rock base mini diorama.
I don't want to paint it again because I wouldn't be able to match the dry-brush pattern and would lose a bit of texture detail. So over the course of a few days I set the diorama in a sun-filled window hoping the sun would somehow fade the sheen. It may have helped a little.
Then this morning I washed it with liquid soap and warm water. It helped a little so I may have to repeat this.
I contemplated using Testors Acrylic Cleaner/Thinner but I fear it'll quickly muddy the paint.

Aside from re-painting, does anyone have any ideas for getting rid of this satin type finish???

A few improvements to Aunt Beru's Kitchen

Right now I'm in a sort of minor customizing mode between dioramas, and the state of Aunt Beru's kitchenware had been bothering me for some time :P. Here is how it looked before the improvements; note the wooden pieces for the cookware and the forward foamie face of the dio:

Old Version:

So I bought a few pieces in the bead section of Hobby Lobby, as well as using several CPU greeblies and a couple Hasbro items, and spraypainted all of them gloss white or silver. There are mini beads in a couple containers to look like pasta or some such. Another change I made is the front face of the dio which used to be a couple halves of roughly-cut foamie shapes, and is now a cleaner-cut foamcore board single piece. The changes aren't dramatically different, but hopefully for the better!
