View Full Version : THANK YOU ALL!!!!

Hello OPX Volunteers!

Sorry for my late post, but I literaly have just now recovered enough to think straight. I've read all your posts on other threads and thank you very much for all your compliments. It was a very hard job this year. A lot of you know that I had to put my 20 year old kitty to sleep the Friday before I left for CIV which put me out on an emotional ledge even before we started the madness. And it took every ounce of energy that I had to get through to the last day. So let me apologize here if I yelled at you, snapped at you or gave you a dirty look - please don't take it personally, it was a very stressful situation.

But my efforts mean nothing without you guys. At the end, including walk-up volunteers there were 380 of you working the auto hall. That is a huge number of people and every one of you was required - it was a tight ship, let me tell you. Be assured that every duty assigned was required to make a positive and efficient experience for our customers and I heard nothing but fantastic compliments on the service that you provided.

And never have I heard such compliments from the signing guests THEMSELVES about the volunteers. I had many, many guests request their volunteer for the duration of their shifts. That is the highest compliment of all in my book. Excellent work guys!

A great round of applause is needed for each and every one of you and I thank you with all my heart for working hard and working well. Be assured that you have been marked in my database as great volunteers and I would be happy to have you all again at any of our future events.

Some of you even caught my eye enough to be bumped to red-shirt status. Not that that's a good thing for you. It only gives me the ability to push you beyond what you think you are capable of and probably gets you yelled at too. I think the next red shirts should say "I volunteered at C5 and all I got was yelled at by Anne Neumann" :-)

Just wanted to say thank you to you for the awesome job you did of getting all of us volunteers organized. I had a great time helping out and will definately do so again in the future. If Official Pix will be doing anything in or around Orlando, FL I would love to help out with that also. I was priviledged enough to sit with Dermott Crowley on Friday and Shannon McRandle on Saturday and both of them were wonderful people. On Sunday I played floor manager for a double shift in the area with Tim Rose, Bruce Spence, and the numerous others in that section. I was able to interact with most of them during my shift and all of them were great people. I also ran across a number of the guests at the Master Replicas party Sunday night. I will share 1 quick story that I will not be forgetting. My friend and I were walking around and came across Tom Kane(voice of Yoda) and Mat Lucas(voice of Anakin) and Debbie Carrington(Ewok) and were chatting with them. Tom was joking around acting drunk, hobbling around, falling over, etc. So I joked and said he was acting drunk so how about acting as Yoda drunk ? He then went right into the Yoda voice as if Yoda had been drinking and then Mat went into an Anakin voice as he had been drinking. It was hilarious !!! Anyway, Thanks again Anne for your hard work and I look forward to working with you and all of my fellow volunteers again in the future.

I just wanted to say I had a great time working at CIV! So many great memories... some not so great! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif But a lot of fun! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do so!

Erm... maybe I should apologize here for behaving like a blonde? I had like no sleep for the 4-5 days before C4 started and almost nil once I got there, so by the time my shifts started on Saturday I was not at my best... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sorry to hear about your kitty Anne... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif That is always hard. Especially one who has been part of your family for so long.

05-31-2007, 05:35 PM
This was my first time volunteering for anything at a convention, and let me tell you - I had a blast! For all day Sunday, I got to sit with Anthony Forrest for my first shift, pulled pictures for my second, and got to play musical celebrity chairs for my third as other volunteers went to get their autograph.

Anne, will Official Pix be working San Diego Comic Con as well? It'll be my first time attending (just like CIV), but I'd love to be able to volunteer again if possible!

05-31-2007, 05:38 PM
Thank you Anne, it was one of those extraordinary experiences that I will take me the rest of my life.

05-31-2007, 06:36 PM
Yes, i agree with all here!

Volunteering for OP was a BLAST!! i appreciate the crew badge and early access, but most of all working with the celebrity guests will be memories I will cherish.

Thanks Anne! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd also like to chime in here. Thank you Anne for giving me the opportunity to volunteer. This was the best time I've ever had at any convention. A year ago, you asked me if I would volunteer and never in my mind did I imagine it would be this much fun.

You are the coolest Star Wars girl I've ever met too! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

See you at Celebration V.

05-31-2007, 07:25 PM
WOW!!!! What an awesome experience! Had oodles n oodles of fun! Security/Crowd Control for Ms. Carrie Fisher and having Femi Taylor as my guest (what a very cool lady!) was just a blast....we even like the same ~Fruit Stripe~ gum. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

....and helping out in Franks' insanity of OPX pics!
Great times Anne!! Thanks.

05-31-2007, 07:26 PM
Thanks, Anne, for giving me the opportunity to volunteer! It was my first time and it was great. All of the 'sisters' enjoyed helping out. The first day was crazy but fun. I really liked meeting those that I only knew from online and also meeting new folks/volunteers from OPX. I can't wait for C5! Thanks again for making it so much fun even though it was a lot of hard work. You rock! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

05-31-2007, 07:36 PM
Thank You Anne for the opportunity to help out at CIV. none of this would be possible with out all your hard work. and your clones who I had the pleasure to get to talk to while waiting to get into Conversation with Carrie Fisher.
I knew it was going to be a great time. but it turned out a million times better than I could have ever imagined. I even had several people ask me how to volunteer throughout the convention!! my only regret is that I couldn't work more shifts. I really hope that CV becomes a reality, cuz you can definately count me in.
also on a side note, all of the guests escorts I encountered while obtaining all of my autographs were all wonderful people. and the people that had to work crowd control with Carrie Fisher.....hats off to all of you. to deal with having to tell people the line was cut off and still keep a smile, I was amazed!!!
one thing I would recomend for the future is to make the GoH tickets a different size or color than the regular guest coupons.

http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thank you, Anne, for making my fourth celebration even more memorable! I experienced wonderful escort duties with Nina Fallon, Alan Ruscoe, Matthew Wood, and Richard Bonehill Friday through Monday. You also went above and beyond with the Official Star Wars Breakfasts! Sunday morning will always be a special memory for my niece and me! Thank you for running one of the best aspects of the celebration! I hope to volunteer in the future (I am available for the San Diego Comic-Con). Thanks, Anne!! ~Lorraine Cruz, C4125

Hi Anne, I would like to take a second to say thanks again for all of the fun memories. You did a great job and I just dont know how you do it event after event...WOW
But more importantly I would like to THANK every single one of the volunteers. I was the red shirt who had the name Terry on my badge, but adopted the nickname of "Cowboy" because of the hat.
Guys, I just cant say enough! you really pulled together for us and made us one of the best talked about experiences at C4. It was the team work, kindness, maturity, respect, and knowledge that made our program a successful one. I basically worked about every shift as a floor manager. And I can tell you all that I was FLOODED by many positive comments by the fans, signing guest, and the guests managers. They was all extremely happy with all of you.
What most of you dont know is After working everyday of the event as a red shirt, I stuck around and worked 2 more full days helping gencon people tear their stuff down. On the Tues. and Wed. after the event, I spent some time just walking around the LA area talking to people that attended and several fans still at my hotel. I approached them as a fan and not identify myself as who I was. I asked them what they liked most about the event. I am happy to report to you that it is basically a tie as far as fan favorites between the Vader helmet display and the autograph area. So like Anne said..that is such a great thing in my book to have fans and guest tell me how much they appreciated you guys. I think you should all give yourselves a big pat on the backs.
I want to say I hope to see most of you guys back at c5. I think alot of you guys as friends now. And I cant wait to do this all over again with you. Take care and many thanks
Terry (Cowboy) http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

05-31-2007, 11:15 PM
Anne, I said this in an email to you already, but I'll post it here publicly too, THANK YOU for making us all part of this amazing event! I think I speak for all of us when I say it was a very rewarding experience and I know I would jump at the opportunity to volunteer again for OPX in a heartbeat!

Can't wait till next time!

Bruce Spence was totally cool! I had a real hoot! Thanks Anne!

Thank you Anne.I had a wonderful time.I can't wait to do it again.See ya at C5.You are the best! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

06-01-2007, 08:27 AM
Anne...(in my best Fozzie the Bear voice)...Thank you, thank you, thank you and Thank you! I really had a blast volunteering and with the whole Con in general. I would definitely like to sign up if I ever get to go to another one of these things!

A couple of cool pics:

Other highlights were having to pull a double shift with Gerald Home...a great guy! Very pleasant and funny. Presenting Peter Mayhew with one of my pins and hearing his wife say the one she had ordered was a "prized possession." Bruce Spence really wanting a pin after we were sold out. I gave him the one off my lanyard and he tried to insist on paying for it!

But the biggest thrill was seeing that we sold all of our remaining pins and raised over $1500 for another large sum to go to the Children's Inn at NIH!! They are THRILLED that we will be bringing another donation! With out donations to date, we've been sponsoring their family breakfasts and I think this puts us through next year as well!

06-01-2007, 09:47 AM
I just got back from the left coast and wanted to say that I had a BLAST at CIV http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I will be looking forward to CV. It was nice to have no resposibilies for a while, except for the Guest I was with. Maybe next time I will try for a Red shirt!

Thanks Anne. See you in '09!

06-01-2007, 01:46 PM
I will definately volunteer again! I loved the mad craziness of the first shift on the first day! Awesome! Thanks Anne!! You're great!!

06-01-2007, 05:02 PM
While many do not know it I am Anne's super secret right hand man ( Anne doesn't even know it ! ) I was really impressed with the professional attitude and strict enforcement of the rules you guys adhered to. I did my best to test you by coming in the exit and cutting in lines and in one case getting building security involved for one crazy handicapped guy who had a letter from the federal goverment! Anyway I wanted to say thanks for all your help! Without the fan community we simply could not pull off big events like this, you guys rock!

06-01-2007, 10:10 PM
I thought I felt the secret manipulations of the Fan Club President in my brain! Or was it the beer? (Thank you Helen!!! :-)

06-02-2007, 03:50 AM
hello Anne,
I want to thank you for allowing me to volunteer at CIV. It was my first convention and I want to say thank you to all my fellow volunteers for making this the best time I have had in a long time. Anne your work was not unnoticed you professionalism WOW. I have worked many charity event in my time and your handling of a large staff very impressive. What can be said but thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, if your ever in need of any help please feel free to count on me any time.

06-02-2007, 04:20 PM
Anne - Thank you for this amazing opportunity! Make sure to put my name on your list for the next celebration.
I'd like to say a "special thanks" to Rosita, Leslie, Caroline, John, George, and Brian for your kindness.
BRAVO! To everyone on the team, especially to you, Anne, as well as Official Pix team for a successful organization.

06-02-2007, 04:30 PM
Thanks for the amazing opportunity, Anne! I had a great time sitting with Dermot Crowley and Mike Carter. Count me in as a volunteer for C5! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

06-03-2007, 06:21 PM
I'll side with everyone else and say "Thanks" for everything! The shifts were fun (so much so that I decided to work a 5th shift at the last minute!), the autographs and other items were much-appreciated, and the experience is one that I'll always treasure. I was fortunate enough to sit for many hours with Nina Fallon who turned out to be completely "down to earth" and simply one of the nicest people I've ever met.

My friend, Bill, and I both agree that you have volunteers for life with us. We certainly hope to work with you again at CV. I'll most definitely be in attendance so put me on your "must notify" list. I'll pull a MINIMUM of 5 shifts next time, but see if I can't squeeze in 6 or 7. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm finishing my basement right now, building a home theater, concession stand, art gallery, and game room. I have a wall I'm building in the hallway leading to the theater that is reserved for nothing but Official Pix autographs. CIV added considerably to my growing collection and I had an absolute BLAST "earning" the photos.

I wanted to say it was a great honor to work with some of the nicest people around. Even though times where crazy , I have to say this is been the best Celebration I've been too. Consider I am A 4 time vet now. Just want to thank Anne and the rest of the crew. And lets do this again at C5 . Thanks Chris

06-04-2007, 09:22 AM
I'll definitely be volunteering again. It was one of the best parts of the entire show for me. thanks very much for the opportunity.

06-04-2007, 10:34 AM
Thank you to Anne for letting me volunteer again!! I had a great time working as a guest escort!! I will from now on volunteer with Official Pix.

06-04-2007, 02:11 PM
As always, the OP experience was one of the best parts of the convention! I'm ready for round 3 when ever you are!!

06-04-2007, 07:40 PM
We had a GREAT time volunteering with OP, and can't wait to do it again http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Even crowd control for Carrie Fisher on the first day was fun (if a little crazy) and sitting with Peter Mayhew was awesome!

06-04-2007, 11:13 PM
Hey Anne and everyone! This is one of Anne's "clones" here! I got to see that this volunteer pool did an incredible job of really making the Autograph Area a success, without you all we couldn't have done it so well, in fact it went so smoothly towards the end that there weren't very many fires to put out! You really made a difference!

I still can't think why I have to go all the way to Los Angeles to hang out with Anne! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Its amazing how much manpower it takes to run that ship but I can honestly say I was amazed at how smoothly it went, think about it, this was a volunteer effort!

I'd like to thank the many volunteers that volunteered a great deal of time to the hall, you helped keep the continuity and things under control. To those that did moderate shifts, we couldn't have done it without you too!! I hope everyone had a really great time and had some good opportunities to sit with some Class A Signing Guests.

To the Brittish lady that brought the Tetly Tea, thank you so very much, I was fretting about the tea for a month beforehand, I know it meant a lot to have the good stuff.

All in all it was great to meet all of you and to see all the different people coming from so many different places, it was a blast!

Oh yeah, Anne, we've got some cold Shiners at the Dog and Duck just waiting for you...thanks for putting me on your team, it was an honor to work with you, your mom (now we know where you get your work ethic and interminable energy from) and Brian, even if I had to get up at 4:30 some mornings.... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just want to add a special thanks to Anne2 for finding such great volunteers to help out as "pullers" in the pre-signed area plus give a shout-out to Jim, Gonzalo, and all the other hard-working "orange shirts" that made my life as a green shirt so much easier.

06-05-2007, 10:42 AM
HAd a great time meeting all of you guys and would be up for it again.

06-05-2007, 08:12 PM
Anne, I had a great time as well. My first Celebration and to volunteer as well. Lots of fun. Just a little info, I was an escort with Femi Taylor and the Hasbro folks came up and took a bunch of pictures of her and said she is on their short list to make a new figure. They are going to give her her own card.

Thank you oh so very much, you're contribution meant so much to so many hard working signing guests! Its no joke, at Celebration III there was no tea and they were not happy.... I guess I'll have to try the good stuff some time...

Thanks again, you took one of my worries away! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Anne,

I had a wonderful time volunteering for this convention. This was one my highlights at the convention. I enjoyed sitting down with the each of the actors/actresses in the process met some great people with some amazing stories.

I also met some great people that I worked along side of or interacted with. I also was able to interact with more people this way.

Thanks again Anne for the great coordination of all the volunteers and keeping things running smoothly. I also have to thank Anne's 'clone' for answering my questions and just engaging in friendly conversation.

I will definitely be volunteering for Celebration 5 when that pops up in the near future.

I became good friends with some of the Celebs that even though CIV is over still in contact with them. They are already asking if there is going to be a CV, I can only say you would prob know before i would. But i can see no reason as to why there would not be another one in the near future.

Thanks everyone who made this a experience worth being apart of. I am proud to be with any fan of this calibur and dedication.

thanks again guys you all Rock!!!
