Yes mate. Us Brits are a laugh to go out with and i am sure Celebration Europe will be one hell of a great event. Maybe more so than Celebration 4

Hey Dustin,

You should go. However, don't go unless you can get away for at least two weeks. For the amount of flight time, you should spend as much time as possible over there. Go see Paris as well. You would take the chunnel to get to Paris. PM me with any questions. I did a European vacation and loved every minute of it. My only concern with Celebration Europe is it could end up being a carbon copy of Celebration 4.

Of course, Dustin!

I wanna meet you in person, man! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chunnel!?!? Who the hell calls it that? Apart from tourists I mean.

BTW I voted yes, but only on the condition we can decide where to send you once you've got your passport.

Well, maybe it's just me (I have a bad character. Seriously), but I was quite offended by this question. I voted for the second option as a result.

Why?

As President of the Fan Club and big shot here at Rebs, you have a voice in the ear of important players in the Star Wars world. Hasbro and all other known toy manufacturers and retailers to name some, maybe you can reach even as far as Sansweet, Lucasfilm and Lucas himself. As such, I think that it's your DUTY to be at Celebration Europe and see what you can do for the European fan! I EXPECT you to be here and have panels, brainstorms and discussions of all kinds with us European fans, then go back home and do something with the results of all that.
Panels, brainstorms and discussions? About what?
Toy distribution in Europe; more exclusives for the European fan; what about the polls where the opinions of European fans are very often still not valued; can you set up ways of getting toys to Europe and help collectors out here ... even if CE is a solid step in the good direction, Star Wars is still far too much of an American thing right now and us European fans come dry in many areas. Shouldn't the President of the Fan Club at least be giving us the impression he cares for his "voters" over here?

So, if you'll be heading here to be celebrated as a "VIP" and expect us to get in line to get your autograph, Dustin, don't bother to come. You already have enough of that where you are now, me thinks. On the other hand, if you want to act a Fan Club's real President, I'll be on the first row to welcome you in.

So what's your program, Mr. President?

Jeremy

Err, that was rather aggressive. Dustin didn't mention anything about an agenda - whether it be as honourary US fan club president (by CE his presidency will be over anyway), VIP or simply to assist Stef, Jose and myself cover Celebration Europe.

But if you really, really, really want to know:

It is the third reason.

Count to ten and breathe slowly next time.

I was pissed off and so I wrote what I wrote. I'm sorry if it was aggressive.

aggressive yet very valid

Why was Joris' rant valid?

I'd be very interested to hear why you think Dustin shouldn't come over.

This isn't meant as anything against Dustin.

I think folks are reading into Dustin's position as Fan Club president a little too far. I dont see any of the big companies giving him the opportunity to affect major policy changes within their companies, nor do I see them taking his suggestions for more than face value, since they already have plenty of marketing research available to support their positions. As far as these companies are concerned, he's the winner of a contest, not an important bigwig within LFL that has a say in how companies sell their products.

The fact that there is a Star Wars Celebration Europe is a very obvious sign that companies are starting to listen more to the European Star Wars fans.

Quite right, and Dustin would be the first to agree with you, and his poll is just a bit of fun and has nothing - I repeat NOTHING - to do with his presidency.

I don't want this thread to turn into the I Hate Dustin Fanclub.

BigDumbWookiee got it right where it concerns my remark; I expected more of this entire Presidency thing. With all that's being said and done, I think we missed out on some opportunities to make opinions heard. If they're not gonna listen to the Fan Club President, then who'll they'll be listening to? ... He could have been a chunnel ... er ... channel for the fan's voice. I was even more hoping that he would be that much for the European fans, because I do think we have more issues to deal with than the US fan audience.

But hokay, I'm the one who started this discussion so I'll be attempting to close it as well. I agree with Jer we shouldn't turn this into I Hate Dustin Fanclub. That's not what this was about ...

Peace and luv, Jedi brotha's ...

Ah....but well worth every penny spent http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(sorry...I know the thread is not about that, but I love travel and could not resist!)

BTW...If you do go Dustin...stay for longer than the con...London has so much to see and to travel that far and not see the city, part of the country or even take a short trip to a neighboring country while you are there would be a shame.
