***SPOILER WARNING applies***

Some rough sketch type pictures have leaked out of Snoke's version of the Royal Guard which are being called "Elite Praetorian Guard" according to rumour sites (name could change), since Royal Guards usually sell well this one would be a no brainer for Hasbro, who want's to see an action figure of this guy?

Honestly, I'm having a hard time determining what the head/helmet actually looks like from this image. As is, he kind of looks like a shiny soda can with a lemon slice wedged on top of his head. Unless there's some clearer pics, I'm not yet feeling this guy...

I'm in for a squad of 4 of these guys to escort Snoke

From What I understand they aren't really a trooper and each of the 4- 8 shown in the film have unique designs to them. So this guy will likely be one of those and there will be a few others all with different helmet and weapon designs. THAT screams of the type of marketing driven designs Lucas was always accused of.

Here is my fear. That they toss one of these guys out in 5POA, the same one in SA, in the first initial film push wave. Then the rest of them are either neglected by the ongoing "3rd wave syndrome" Hasbro has not been able to solve , or we get them in a mish mash of different lines and styles that wont match each other and will no doubt be plagued by terrible distribution such that completing a full set of all the different variations of these guys will be a nightmare and we won't get a set completed for 20 more years across 30 different gimmick and fad marketing blunders. In the mean time we will have some 5 POA, some with commtech chips, some with nerf heads, some with angry chopper bird titaniums molds, multiple releases of which ever one version gets out of the gate first.... there is no way they will handle this correctly which would be a one and done battle pack with competent distribution but hey at least Im not bitter about it.

Yeah I Agree with you man, I cant really tell what I am looking at design wise

The tentative description hints of some kind of Roman-looking armor that implies partial visibility of the guard's face along the helmet and not fully cladded armor (like King Arthur's knights). A riot shield is also implied since riot shields have known to be employed, but possible with a special elite First Order logo design in this case.

Here's another look at the trooper:

How are we discerning these guys from the Knights of Ren? Other than the color red, their armor looks incredibly similar... or at least from what we've seen so far.

DarkArtist

if they make multiples of this trooper I'm all for it as long as they are easy to find. I can see perhaps a box set of these with an exclusive holographic Snoke on a throne being a retail exclusive or something

There is a (Gamestop exclusive, perhaps) box set of these (6" I think) coming out. There was a inventory leak recently with the code name "Victor Guards" or something like that. Many believe "Victor" is code for Snoke and the guards would be these dudes.

I am not feeling these designs. They look more like genuine medieval suits of armour - more game of Thrones than Star Wars.

Masterfett

Agreed. I personally would have preferred if they pulled fro KotOR designs rather than whatever 4th grad art school these were inspired from.

Again, I'm looking forward to see the kind of explanations the Visual Dictionary and Incredible Cross Section books explain about these designs.

I don't care for it, just doesn't look Star Wars and does not mesh with the aesthetic of the First Order. The name is also very inappropriate for something from a galaxy where the Roman Empire does not exist. Even the armor style looks right out of a Roman gladiator arena with those Manica style arm coverings. Next we will find out that Supreme Leader's full name is Caesar Augustus Snoke.

Masterfett
06-17-2017, 11:12 AM
Snoke isn't his real name anyways, so he'll likely be called something else entirely. Same as Anakin/Darth Vader, Dooku/Darth Tyrannus, Palpatine/Darth Sidious. Etc.

I've always been rather 'meh' about royal guards in general (within SW). They never really did much in ROTJ (my least fav SW OT movie, from a design POV) - so these Praetorian versions, don't really inspire much, for me.

Open to having my opinion changed, and hopefully they do more than just stand around like red-caped window-mannequins - but for me personally they have always been a non-event, throughout all the movies we have seen them present in (ROTJ, ROTS, R1).

Deak_Starkiller

In a way, they remind me of the Cobra Crimson Guard...basically soldiers that are 'too precious to be wasted on the conventional battle field'. If they don't do anything, it's usually because the grunts are thrown onto the field to do the work.

I'm willing to bet that these guys are just going to stand around like all the other royal guards seen so far. the closest to getting any action was in episode 3 when they tried to keep yoda from entering palpatines office. also i find it a little bit annoying that these guards do not have uniform armor. i can get that the knights of ren might have unique armor designs but any type of royal guard should not.

I love Snoke and Royal Guards, so this is a no-brainer for me (no soft goods though).

Deak_Starkiller
06-30-2017, 10:04 PM
Soft goods is typically a 'secondary' release, kind of like when modern Jedi Luke was release. First molded, then soft goods. OTOH, if Hasbro has that mindset that the guards are the 'next coolest army builders', they may release a molded basic assortment and a deluxe (or 2-pack) release that's soft goods to saturate the character.

These guys and Snoke seem like a certainty in the basic line, 2-packs, and/or 3.75" TBS line. It's odd that they're not in the list Yakface released for the 1st waves of figures, but that's Hasbro for you.

JTA has a link to Amazon Germany that leaked/listed the jakks pacific big figures of Poe and the Elite guard. Something about the sleeves/arms on him really bother me. Reminds me of a poorly drawn cartoon character with that taper.

Totally agree, theres something about its design that really doesnt work IMO. Maybe itll look better onscreen?

A lot of the designs I've seen for TLJ has me saying/hoping that "Maybe it'll look better on screen." It's making me a little uneasy, to be honest.

I like the boldness of the designs and would welcome figures of all 3 of them. But I'm also curious as to how the characters will move with so many armor plates on the arms.

It ain't no Ralph McQ design that's for sure! At least Filoni gets that aspect. But the ST esign team seems to be coming up with odd choices, or at least the Director(s) are choosing the odd ones.

Filtered the photos of the figures of the guards of Snoke of the mark JAKKS Pacific. In version 3.75 I think they will look very similar to these.

Agree about the design, but I doubt it will work onscreen. This figure is so uninteresting to me. This will be an easy pass for me.

Am curious if they're the Knights of Ren with these bodyguards characters, odd that those characters arent anywhere around now in the media and toys for this new film.

At first I was looking forward to this charatcer design from the inital reveal but now I am less enthusiastic. The complete absence of any sort of face is dull. The original Royal Guards had that Visor which gave them an intimidating presence. I'll be getting one but its not going to be my next armybuilder like I initially thought it would be.

Deak_Starkiller
07-27-2017, 12:17 AM
Though menacing onto itself, the weapon seems a bit low-tech....I'd expect something maybe along the lines of a energy pike or staff (but we'll see if that the case). To me, it looks like something that belong more in the SW universe's past than Saga future. This unfortunately looks like an obvious pegwarmer.

Masterfett

I wonder if we'll be seeing any Knights of Ren, at this point they seem more interesting than these guards.
I think they got too detailed with some features, most of the time less is more.

SGT_A

What if the guards ARE the Knights of Ren?

Masterfett
07-28-2017, 09:30 PM
Could be, but I would prefer not. It makes sense for Kylo to have his personal troops/guards as much as it does for Snoke or Krennic. These have more of the "Emperor" vibe, hence why we're seeing them now with Snoke's physical appearance.

Think about it, it makes no sense. ;)

Masterfett

Because these names are dreamt up by people without the knowledge of what the title means I guess. They're going to extreme to make you believe these guys are Specialized and Elite, but when they actually fight someone formidable they'll crumble just like all the others.

I am happy to buy that these are elite. That's fine, I just find it sloppy that this guy is essentially called Elite Elite Guard haha. We get it. And as you say, Rey will crush these anyway (and probably Finn too)

And maybe they will be kick-*** in the movie too? Or they might just stand around and do nothing at all like ERG's.

I get the feeling that Snoke is going to use these guys to test Kylo as part of his training, just a guess but I think we are going to see them very much in action.
